Say I absolutely love your videos of your no Chuck no problem series just fantastic and my 12-year-old son just turned this goblet because of your tutorial
Very nice Mike, you should know we just ask 'how high to jump dear' . When you said just a few light cuts i thought oh no a two piece earring holder lol. Cheers Geoff
Nice to watch an expert working. I'm sitting in my backyard nursing a few wounds acquired from a piece of cedar that flew off the lathe a few minutes ago. Hit my wrist, then chest, then off my face shield. Internal application of a couple of cold beers is helping.
Very nice, Mike and you get to be a hero for a little while. Win-win! Nicely executed, simple but effective and useful. I'll bet you are responsible for many wives next gifts! Phil
If it's what your wife wanted then I rate it outstanding.👍👍 Actually I like it myself. You did well. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
...well, you need to make the wife happy by making whatever she asks for...and you did a great job making this earring stand!... My wife, however wants me to make her a very rich woman...I'm strugglin' here...
That is really neat another beautiful elegant piece of work.i couldn't find your show at 7:30 where you were selling turning tools for the lathe sorry I missed that one,if you can tell me the name of it,I'll be sure not to miss the next one.
Thanks David ... I'm not sure what you mean regarding the tools. I did have a give away a while back, but I don't actually sell tools. Thanks for watching.
Nice one Mike. I’m surprised she chose the oak myself, but I do like it better than what you intended to use. The colors were off for the yew. 2 questions: Did she approve the alternating hooks? Did she approve?
Very nice project - I'm sure you wife will enjoy it. But the last minute substitution of the pre-made finial raises a question. If I understand correctly, the yew portion of the stand was slightly concave. The pre-made finial, however, did not have a mounting tenon, so you wiped some glue on the top of the yew, and pressed the finial into place. But that means that the actual gluing surface where the two parts joined together was very narrow - just the rim of the concave portion of the yew. How were you able to subsequently reshape the area where the oak and yew came together without cutting through that gluing surface?
Another good lesson. A question. I sand up to 600 grit. Clean with meths, add sand n sealer. Dry and add wax. Why is there dirt after waxing? Adding wax too early, wrong tissue paper/cloth ? All my small pieces look dirty. Help please pleaseeeee. Beechwood the worse. I'm confused to what I'm doing wrong. Thank you.
I have never made something exactly as asked. That’s because the request comes from someone who doesn’t turn and they don’t understand what’s feasible and what will result in a good looking final product.
Ooooh! You are treading on very thin ice, my friend! Not only making a UNILATERAL decision about alternating the hooks (which, in my experience, is tantamount to mutiny) but also (and I'm guessing she hasn't seen the video yet... because it's still up) QUESTIONING YOUR WIFE'S CHOICE OF FINIAL AND OVERALL DESIGN. You might have negated all the brownie points you earned making it for her. Of course, I can safely say that I agree a taller, more elaborate finial in a contrasting wood would have been better... because she doesn't know where I live.
On reflection, you could have argued that a taller finial would also serve as a 'ring post' to store rings. I don't know how much jewellery your wife wears... but, then again, the Queen has the largest and most valuable collection of jewellery in Europe... and she usually wears a dull green shooting jacket and a headscarf.

Thanks!
Pleasure and thanks for watching Lewis.
I've been turning mushrooms and you're telling me I could have been up selling them as earring holders? Thanks for the idea!
Lol... my pleasure Sir!
Mike, the Earing Stand looks great. But the hooks... 🤔Cheers, Martin.
Thanks yet again Martin .... and I totally agree ... but the customer gets what the customer wants 😁😉
Lovely design. Thank you for sharing.
On a side note, what are the advantages of a round tool rest?
Thank you Vicent. The tool rest shape is a personal choice at the time ... I think every type has its pros and cons.
Nice one Mike. I’m surprised she chose the oak myself, but I do like it better than what you intended to use. The colors were off for the yew.
2 questions:
Did she approve the alternating hooks?
Did she approve?
Hi Doug ... each to their own mate. Surprisingly she didn't even mention the hooks ... so I got away with it .... this time! 😉

Thanks Louie, if you notice it went convex not concave in that area to avoid doing just that. Thanks for your input much appreciated.
It's about time you did something she wanted.🤣🤣🤣
Exactly what my wife said Leroy!😁
Another great video Mike. Where do you get the metal name tags you use on your creations?
Thanks Campbell ... I actually use a branding iron to sign my work. However I am considering sourcing some discs. Thanks for watching.
I'd like to know that too.
Nice work! Remember, you need to make the product to your customer's specifications!!!
Lol ... thanks Mwrk.

Thank you much appreciated. I must confess I am at a loss as you are doing everything to avoid a poor finish.
Thanks for your reply. Keep up the excellent work you share with us.
what a nice little project, and if it satifies the wife ,that's all that matters
Thanks Buck ... so true my friend.
happy wife happy life
So true Fran ... thanks for watching.

😁
Ha, Ha, Do you think you will get away with the last word.. Design.... Alternate colour hooks. Your living dangerously 😁
🤣🤣🤣
Mike, are you sure its Yew?
Absolutely positive John. Thanks for watching.
She who must be obeyed has apparently been appeased............for now.........
😄😄 for how long ... only time will tell Ron.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 it's amazing how brave we are ... from a distance eh Ron? Thanks for watching and the usual humorous missive mate.
Hope the finished piece got a fair ‘earing from the judge and jury…aka SWMBO 🫣
😁😁 it did ... for a change!
