Sage Erickson: I'm Sage Erickson, I'm a professional surfer. I'm from Ojai, California, and this is a day in the life of Daniel and I. Being home is completely an absolutely magical, the time of year, beautiful crisp mornings, great waves. I think Daniel's been helping me re-fall in love with surfing for the fun of it and not directed towards competing or a result. It's huge for me because for the past 15 years I have competed and it has been a workspace for me. And when we're out there, we're just having fun. We just love treating each day like an adventure, getting a good coffee, checking all the surf spots.
Daniel Norris: I was always drawn to things that I was interested in. So for surfing, it's like I wanted to know everything about it. I grew up in Tennessee, there's no surf there, we hiked and rock climbed and all that, but I fell in love with it through music and old school surf films. And so as I grew older, I knew that's something I wanted to be a part of my life. Playing ball, you have a crowd, you have people watching, 50,000 people at times judging your every move. And with surfing, it's you go out there and there's no competition for me. That's why I'm not jealous of her doing pro competitions, because people are judging your stuff. And that's what I do in my day job. But when I'm surfing, it's like I'm just out there having fun.
So I think we're just always chasing that feeling of when can we get back out in the water? I think that's what's been fun about surfing with her and watching her surf is obviously she's so good. And it's something that I want to continue to get better at as far as surfing goes. So it's like, I can learn from her as well. And I think about one session we had one time and Sage asked me like, what do you think about out here? Like, what are you thinking about? And I immediately answered, just my next wave, the anticipation of that is fun. So for two, three hours a day, I'm not thinking about anything but a wave. And that's what I love about it.
