- Body cameras have become a pillar of police accountability efforts over the last decade. And more recently, Black Lives Matter protests have resulted in countless captured moments of police violence for the public to scrutinize. But as recent research shows, the kind of footage captured can influence our opinions of police...in ways we may not even realize.

This is why I am disgusted by circle culture.
Yeah off course the footage can still be useful even if it’s biased or incomplete. It isn’t the only tool we use to figure out what happened at a scene and shouldn’t be and we should learn what are the downfalls of it and be aware of the biases. It’s better then nothing.

If you're not aware of confirmation bias it is a very interesting topic.
I'm happy Messiah and Taniyah are alive and doing well.
I can't help but notice that the written account gives a very transactional summary of the events: Person "A" was pulled out of the vehicle.
It makes no mentions nor judgements of "the how" - how was person "A" pulled - was it quick? with force? a lot of force? a little? was it violent? aggressive? I'm not sure I'm convinced about the intention-attachment theory, but it seems obvious when you see the fuller account via the video footage, that you would understand more of the "how" and that "how" would inform the judgements for or against those carrying them out upon person "A"
Yes, you can’t put in your own prejudice against police and politics inside ! So fascist !
You're making way too many assumptions and analyses based on absolutely no research or data on the history, use, format, legal application, etc etc of written accounts. I understand your desire for transparency and full disclosure with no obfuscation, but you're only looking at one thing in an 8-minute video that doesn't even fully cover the topic it's reporting on.
The flaw in your thinking is that you're starting from the assumption that cops are evil liars and working backwards to find weak links in the chains that you imagine should bind their abusive natures. I do not think that kind of biased approach will result in any of the outcomes you want.

@@Sal3600 unbiased information does not exist when even a single living thing is involved in the information.
@@Sal3600 what's biased about being able to see from all angles of a situation?
@7 from what I could get in the few seconds looking at it, it is definitely biased. The channel itself has a huge bias towards alternative news, and freedom of news over correctness of news, while every video/article in itself has a more specific bias toward something or another.
I think it is wonderful how this gentleman studied the situation with an intellectual perspective rather than judging a book by its cover. Genius! It sure does put things into perspective how our society perceives the same situation from two or three or more different angles.
I don’t know what is happening to our law enforcement community, what has changed that has made them so quick to escalate a situation. They mostly approach a situation with so much force because they know in the end there won’t be much we can do about it. What we need is accountability and an end to qualified immunity, without this there is nothing to left to work on the table.
The only thing that has changed are the body cameras...
@@b1llygo4t That’s true, they're so prevalent that we get to see the true extent of their depravity.
i dont think anything happened to it, i think were just highlighting the bad cops too much and looking the good ones. and sometimes cops are doing job correctly and people judge the footage too quickly without any context of what happened
Another problem is the police tend too turn their camera off if they are up to no good. Happens quite often !
So true!
or they turn their body with their camera attached away obstructing the field of view of the assisting officers or themselves comitting misconduct or corruption. They also inform the other responding officers that their camera is activated with a "HOT" mic so all the police become actors on a stage for the BWC cameras.
This is the stupidest thing ever =.= what's the point of giving body camera if the guy who have it can just turn it off and voila commit crime against humanity over and over like body cameras aren't a thing
@4:45 see the guy in the army type suite, going for the car and what appear slashing the front tires. Other Cases where they have implanted bogus evidence in the car. Who is policing the police ? if it is internal, it is wrong, as you can not be judge and jury at the same time. The more cameras... the better.
Regardless of any camera it's the violence over a curfew or some other non crime that gets my goat
I still believe if there is true accountability those body cams on police should be active (turned on) all the time. The police are known for turning their cameras off or muting them when the officers are talking to each other which would show their intentions through the conversations they are having with each other.
Abuse of power is somewhat kept in check when cameras are present. Then again the best thing is not to believe anything you hear and only half of of what you see.

From a European perspective, this is so alien. Here we obey the police, so they dont have to be so aggressive. But here, the police are not soldiers, if we disagree, we call a lawyer

All LE should have body worn cameras on at all times while on duty where footage is stored in a cloud in real / near real-time. As public servants, there is no right to privacy while performing their duties. This footage should be available to all citizens.
This is a very insightful study, and it makes for a great documentary.
Terrifying.
Our valiant Law Enforcement officers, posing more of a threat to public safety than the people they're attempting to arrest and charge.
It's terrifying, and infuriating. That people who clearly can't remain calm under pressure, and act professionally at all times are trusted with a badge and a gun, in our society.
I'm not saying they don't have a dangerous job. Of course they do.
But everybody knows that, especially them, going in.
What's expected of them while performing those duties should be the FIRST, and most fundamental lesson in their training process.
Which it's so obviously not, not yet, anyway.
This is change happening, what's going on across the Country, (and around the World,) right now.
It's painful, and often gets much worse before ultimately getting better, but with the right clarity of vision and priority maintenance it WILL get better.
That's based on everything we've learned throughout history, we've only ever changed for the better this way, from the ground up. ✌
Really enjoyed this. Thanks
I think it does not only matters the perspectives but also the length of video and context... I am curious what was going on before the arrest. The only thing I can see is a desperate effort to undermine police and say its a racist arrest while the arresting cop being black, I call BS
Great video really interesting keep up the good work.
Man, I cannot believe they left out the important detail with body cams is that the amount of just raw footage that is recorded has to be stored in police servers and the sheer amount of footage they have is building up way too fast and they don't have enough storage for all of it. Everyone wants police to be recorded at every second but nobody stops to think about how the footage is stored and the work that goes behind body cams. On top of that, there are other problems like forgetting to turn on the body cams since it's a fairly new implement in normal duties, body cams are pretty expensive, and other problems that go into it. The Verge didn't really go into detail about what actually goes on with body cams other than they record what police do which is obvious. I get that people want to know what actually takes place when police are at work, however, this is a new technology for them, and especially with the defunding of the police isn't gonna help either in this situation. The bottom line is that it would be nice to have more information and to see what takes place but the cost for that is not cheap by an means and I want people to understand it's not that simple to have body cams for police.
Got to ask where the audio is because with that I could maybe get more context to the situation and make a verdict
More audio means better cameras which means more funding to police departments.
@@Hunter_Brandon most police departments already equip their officers with body cams with sound. They can mute it but that looks sus in court

@0:24 "There is a back and forth between the student and the officer". Then because the officers ego couldn't handle the citizen just driving away and because he had the power, the officer smashed the window, tazed and dragged the student from his vehicle, whilst his buddies piled in, tazing the passenger, putting them both in handcuffs, then dragged them away and put them in a cage and pressed charges. The back and forth was over and the students were leaving, but the officer just could not leave feeling his authority had been disrespected. And worst of all, we pay them to do this to us.
I don’t see it changing the way police as a whole behave or de-escalate any better than they are accustomed to. Take away their qualified immunity and see what that does.
Exactly!
So you want better training for police then?
Personally, I care not what the police think about their "qualified immunity." What I do care about is personal freedoms. Allowing others to operate above the law to establish citizen compliance is not an option in my book. It only serves as a constraint for the flavor of the month. And, the results are now more obvious.

Why was that car stopped? Unless we know that there is no way we can decide whats right or wrong
I would just like to point out that with the power of video editing nowadays a good skilled video editor could edit the video in such a way as to make it look biased for the police or against the police so in editing the video you can actually control the story and the perspective that is supposed to be told and you can move the bias one way or another which is why in court the preference is for watching an unedited version of the video and why in many cases edited versions of the video are not allowed into evidence to be presented to a jury because there is the possibility of evidence tampering to control the bias and the narrative to try to make a situation look different than it is and to try to sway the Judgment of the jury One Way versus the other so no just because there is the existence of a video does not mean that the narrative that video shows is necessarily unbiased or even helpful in some situations you edit a video to direct a narrative and by directing a narrative you are essentially controlling the story the video tells which is a bad thing in this type of situation because the video can be edited to be favorable for the police who were seeing to have used excessive and unnecessary force in this case and spoil the two suspects weren't actually charged or prosecuted anything and only the six police officers involved were charged and four were dismissed from their jobs over this incident.

Doctors are required to have personal insurance in case they injure someone. The same should be said for cops. No insurance, no job, no exceptions. That is the way it should be. Also, if you get fired by one department you should never be able to be hired by any other department in the entire country ever again. Lack of personal accountability in bolden's bad behavior. When the taxpayer is paying the settlement for a cop's bad behavior the cops do not feel the consequences of their actions. Make it so any lawsuit comes out of the officer's personal pocket and watch how fast they start behaving themselves.

I feel like the influence of contextual analysis is ambiguous. Good luck getting meaningful results.
Edit: Maybe complexity of the experiment needs to be increased. In order to isolate affluential aspects of the data analysis you need to figure out why the human chose a choice explicitly. For instance, did the current trends influence or is it personal sympathy. That itself is difficult to isolate. The subjectivity of analysis is also hard in a different way. It becomes impossible to generalize for all subjective positions. If the experimental data is used in the advertising industry then it would probably fly. The industry is looking for probabilty of successful marketing rather than full proof persuasive techniques. Besides that it would be just another half baked psycho-social experiment. The complexities and chaotic nature of psychology and sociology makes it a field ill-fit for lower level scientific experimentation.
Body cameras should be worn by more than just police officers. They should be worn also by kids in school so that they can turn in bullies (including adults in some cases). If everyone wore cameras we could also reduce the punishments needed to deter crimes, and criminals charged with light crimes could be let free. You could also help get drug pushers, abusive police officers, corrupt officials, abusive "lovers" into accountability. The police are outnumbered and expensive so if we can make it so that we need them less it would be great, I'd volunteer to live in a community where everyone had body cameras even although I know I'm not perfect because it helps bring accountability to everyone.
