- Lately, I have seen a bit more people mentioning this idea of Rolex fatigue, which I think definitely is fair, but I did not want this to get into the way of two of the most talked-about and one of my favorite submariners, with the Rolex Smurf and Rolex Hulk.

I think Rolex has yet to perfect the use of color with the submariner. What would you like to see in the future? Color, case material, movement, etc?
For color i would like to see rotting cherry red or any other type of red and of course yellow will smash it. Case material for sure steinless steel bcs of price, watches almost look the same. Conclusion is that the yellow will lunch Subs onto new level. 💛
Hulk color is amazing! It’s a very special watch.

@guess what Let me correct you here. Steinhart makes a blatant one by one copy of the Smurf with an ETA movement, sapphire, etc. for too much money to spend on a watch that reminds you everyday about how you cannot have the real deal. Because in the end it's not Rolex.

I absolutely love the Smurf. But with a price tag the size of a Jeep Wrangler, I purchased the Tudor Pelagos to fill my need for a blue ceramic bezel as well as a stunning dial. The Pelagos doesn’t get the respect it deserves for the immense lume that it gives off. But after only four months, it didn’t fill the void that was created the first time I laid eyes on the Smurf. I traded my Pelagos and emptied my savings to own the Smurf. See, I’m not wealthy. Buying a 36K watch was a real sacrifice. But I have such a passion and love for high end time pieces I couldn’t live without one. I’m wearing mine as I watch this video and it hasn’t lost its luster....
I have both. The way the dial shines on the hulk is fantastic but I actully prefer the smurf. It goes with so much more.
Bezel misaligned at 1:10 drove me CRAZY. 🥴😳😬😂

Great video, brother. The Smurf has to be one of the best Rolex Sleepers out there. Love it! I'm just wanting them to dig deeper...like bringing back a more vibrant Root beer GMT - like the 16753 with a Tiger's eye dial and the works. A special line of submariners with a returning Explorer dial. A Milgauss that reimagines the 1019. They have too many options at their disposal to play around with, but alas...
The only Rolex I would ever own absolutely in love with the smurf
Smurf for me (theoretically, as I can’t afford it). I was in Boston back in October and I fancied a look at the latest Submariner in steel, wondering if one was available, as steel sports Rolexes were getting hard to find. Anyway, my fears were realised, when I noted that there were absolutely zero SS sports models in this AD. However, I got chatting to the sales executive, who was very sympathetic, but also enthusiastic and realising that I wasn’t gonna get the timepiece I yearned for, he humoured me nonetheless, a watch nerd of the highest order, he waxed lyrical about all sorts of watches from all manner of brands and promised me that I could at least handle a subby. Lo and behold, he brought out a Smurf, I was gobsmacked, this thing was amazing, the vibrant blue was astonishing and the weight........incredible! There is no way I can ever afford one of these fabulous timepieces, but boy, this guy made my day! No snobbishness, no pretension, this guy at this AD made a poor man happy and for that, I thank him. Nice video Teddy, keep up the good work.

Bet they didn’t have to go on any kind of waiting list!
It’s all Rolex’s marketing strategy, restrict supply, keep the demand up, justifies price hikes!

I personally love the Hulk. My Uncle got one when they first came out and I have always thought that it (or the polar dial Explorer II) would be the Rolex for me.

If money wasn’t an issue, I’d go with a smurf, but seeing it is, I’ll stick with my SARB017 Alpinist.
I prefer the Hulk as the other is just too much blue for my liking while the Hulk's sunburst dial keeps it a touch more reserved. Plus, I feel like green a more neutral color and blends better than blue, which stands out more.
As for blue Rolex watches, I tend to side with the "Batman" GMT-Master II, having it balanced with a bit of black.
Teddy, I’m very fortunate to have purchase a Hulk from an AD. However, I really think your Tudor is a crack of a piece and glad you showed it to the Smurf. I’ll take the Tudor myself! Nice vid too. Keep up the good work!

Great video. I love the Smurf but I couldn't afford it. However, I scratched my it with a Sub and a blue Pelagos; which, I deem my Smurf! It's a little bit different blue but I'm not complaining, it still has a great movement, bracelet, bezel action and superior depth rating. Cheers
I have noticed that the Smurf's are slightly creeping up in price recently...
IMO they are not as popular, because of the price point. "Grail Watch" status.

Nailed it Teddy. I adore the Smurf...my absolute favorite Submariner. I’ve owned the bluesy and found it too much bling for my everyday watch. The price of the Smurf is definitely the biggest deterrent imho, and I snap it up in a heartbeat in SS. Theoretically a Pelagos could fulfill my desire for a brilliant blue, but it’s too big and chunky for my taste. Hulk is a pretty cool piece, but I’m more of a blue guy than green. Nice review and thanks for another glimpse of my favorite Sub!

That Cyclops lens collects dirt and is a less than perfect design because it introduces a symmetry problem. I suggest they come out more with models in the no-date format other than just the black one.
I recently part exchanged my 2004 Daytona for the 'Smurf'.
The Daytona is a very elegant watch with perfect dimensions, I found the dial too busy and difficult to read at times.
The 'Smurf' on the other hand is magnificent.

I have the Blusey and the 2018 black date sub. I like them both but the Smurf in SS would be something I would purchase. It would be great to have something other than the black face and bezel on casual days (tee shirt and jeans).

smurf is beautifuf but it became common and easy to find a nice blue dial diver for exemple a cheap seiko snzf 13 that i own is stunning...and there are many other good looking blue dials out there.
but it is impossible to find a watch with this particular green..and I've been looking..i probably know them all.

I love the Smurf and I like that it's in white gold. Great blue color and regular Joes on the streets will have no idea you're wearing a gold watch. But you know...
David Smith be careful wearing any Rolex in a big city unless you have a coat on and don’t show the watch. I’ve known of robberies off the wrist at gunpoint even in Chicago! But yes the Smurf is low key and Teddy’s Tudor is even moreso than that

If my hearing is correct you say that the case is white gold in the Smurf where in fact the bracelet is as well.

Lovely video Teddy. The day the SS smurf drops, we will all be drooling like puppies at the lunch table. As a Hulk owner, I absolutely love it. The price tag for the current smurf is too close to too many grail watches.

I own a Submariner Two Tone Datejust Blue Dial with the oyster bracelet, it's a great durable watch, but I plan on buying an all stainless subbie soon brand new with the classic black dial to add to my collection. Those two subbies are both equally attractive tho...

I would freakin love a SS smurf, for real, i love that blue color, ps. currently own Hulk, really hard to wear as daily beater due to the color, i wear watch base on outfit, i wear my GMT more often than the Hulk
Of the two I like the Smurf though would be nicer in SS. Overall the Kermit is my favorite colorful Sub though.

Red dial green bezel called the Grinch
I’m in the market for a Rolex Hulk it’s beautiful while appearing so different depending on the lighting. It’s just really hard to pay XX over retail. My search continues for a reasonable priced one with box and papers.
These are the only two I have seen in the wild for purchase in the last 6 months looking in ADs all over the world. Haven't even seen a new regular Sub in the official shops.
Kermit or a hulk? Hulk has ceramic, kermit aluminium. Hulk features super case, kermit classic oyster... Prob that helps
The smurf actually provides something in being white gold, it gives it's owner something special despite appearing as just another stainless dive watch. The fan fair surrounding the hulk is unwarranted.

Is the smurf genuine Rolex? Looks like the end links and the lugs fit a little funny, and lume overflow on the 2 o’clock marker.
They need to get their 72 hour movement like their GMTs. All watches over 7,000 dollars now need over 60 hour power reserve. Hear that Patek!! This is 2019. Nice video mate.

Agreed, these are due for an upgrade with the movement.
The Smurf looks much better. The only problem is that it’s in white gold, which is more expensive and scratches very easily.
I will own a Hulk shortly, and will have it for life. I’ve tried on the smurf, and would like it better if the dial was a blue sunburst instead of the lacquer. BUT, when you put on an all gold sub, you cannot overstate the difference in weight and substance. You can almost feel the weight of each individual link...very unusual and substantive.
Of the two I like more the Smurf!
Teddy, I like the hulk. For me it’s about memories. Not so much the watch, but the color. My dad didn’t have the means for a Rolex. He had a pair of green tinted glasses. So now one aspect of the future watch collection will have a green theme.
Would love a sub in navy or midnight blue.
Between the two, I'd prefer the Smurf (if they both came in stainless steel)

White gold needs to be fully separated from steel, and I think Rolex is on route to do that. They've done it with the GMT line, and I think they will head in that direction with the submariner. It looks like the white gold is gonna get a different bracelet than the steel. I like the smurf, but the one I want at the moment is the blue dial GMT.

The Hulk is definitely the most icon Rolex watch why? It is the most iconic model the submariner and has the green color of Rolex! The smurf is a beautiful time piece but white gold is to much for a sport watch that looks like steel and the price is way to high! When you have a Hulk the only thing you dream about is having a steel SMURF! I hope Rolex will hear this and release them this coming September!!!

Tough one! If a Smurf was available in stainless steel, I'd make an effort to save up for one. I couldn't drop $36,000 on a watch and be happy with myself!
As with all full gold Rolexes, it drops as a rock once you leave the store. You can easily find a mint pre owned one $10K under list. maybe even 15K under if you look around.
I love both, however if given the choice I'd go for the Hulk, no doubt. A true collectible and more sensible in stainless steel.
i think the smurf with the sunburst blue dial instead of the current dial style would be a hit with stainless steel strap instead of gold
I love my Hulk and Batman. The Hulk’s dial is special because how the green changes with lighting. The Smurf’s blue is stunning, but for $36K I have countless watch choices. The exact same blue on a SS model would be an instant hit.
