Very cool idea! I know i'm seeing this 2 years later, but I'd be tempted to squish that cup into the hole. It's wider on the top so should catch on the edges of the hole nicely, and even though squished out of shape should still hold water.
Be on the look out for large elastic bands, thrown away by the postman. These are every where on the streets of London. I use them to hold down my pages of my sketchbook, and to hold my pencils and rubbers in place.
Hot glue a strong magnet to bottom of your watercup them hot glue a large flat washer to your easel in the corner also you can hot glue or wood glue a flat magnet to your easel that would hold your paint palette that will hold your water container stronger. And you dont alwayshave to rember your clips as they are already glued to your board...plusset up time is shorter......mikelle art mom👩🎨✍🎨
What a good idea! Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best 😊 I’ll give it a go next time I’m out, I’m sure I’ve got some lying around somewhere...
This is so great. I always wanted to do this but not good at diy. Instead of the dolly do you think a drawing board would work? Or will it need to be more sturdy.
Don’t worry I’m terrible at DIY too this was literally the first time I have used a drill to make something! And yeah a drawing board should work as long as it’s thicker than the t-nut. If you had a spare tripod you could also just glue the mounting plate to the board (as long as you didn’t need it for an actual camera!)
Yay! I did something similar, but made it a box. I basically followed this tutorial with a couple of others for some modifications. ua-cam.com/video/ntCyNkvgLi8/v-deo.html
Oh. And this one. It takes a bit more work, but wasn't too hard. Definitely more measuring and cutting involved though. So that can be a deterrent. I made it as cheaply as possible, but might make a "fancy" one someday. :) ua-cam.com/video/Q4c6NbRP5Q4/v-deo.html
There are so many great variations out there, I love it! It would be good to have a tray to go underneath so I could paint bigger... that might have to be my next project 🤔
There is a certain joy in making something useful yourself
Nice and easy! For the water cup, you could use magnets too (just drop one in the bottom of the cup, and use the same clips as did for the palette)
That’s genius!! It worked 😊

Love it! I find I paint better standing up anyway, so I am definitely going to be making a plein air easal for sure! 👌
That's a great point - it's so much easier to paint loosely when you're standing up!
So cool, I need to make one of these!
Good job.
Thanks Robert!

It’s the Insta360 one x2! I love it 😊
To secure your water cup with 2 large Bulldog clips, left and right of your water cup, with elastic bands stretched between the 2 clips.

Get a hole saw the size of the cup and drop it in the hole?
Thank you! What kind of backpack is that?
It’s the crumpler ‘extrovert’ 😊
Put a magnet on the bottom of your water cup, if needed glue one onto the metal where the wheel screwed into. Voila.
