Just recently got a PJD Carey standard, absolutely stunning guitar and incredible value for money. The P90 + Humbucker combination work so well, I don't know why it isn't a more popular combo.
Thanks for the test and review. Great guitar! I especially loved the classic rock humbucker sounds. If it comforts you: the love to sunburst finishes comes with age. I know what I am talking about :) As to the pickup configuration there are a couple of Duesenbergs, an entry level Gretsch and several Reverend Guitars models. I suspect the latter must be totally your thing. Happy weekend!
Thanks a lot! Well, it was my pleasure being able to loan this guitar for a few weeks and if I have my way it'll be mine forever soon! If PJD let me buy it. Ha ha, it's a sign of becoming older and wiser that I like the sunburst, I know ;) I am learning the way! Cheers on the timely pickup recommendations... I am currently at Guitar Summit and should be able to check the Duesenbergs and a Reverend or two while I am here! The funny thing is I have been eyeing a Reverend for ages as my first baritone purchase - I never even considered there might be a standard guitar of theirs that fits the bill here. You're totally right though, their quirky looks really attract me (without having played any yet). Happy weekend :)
I love the ascetics but the price is about 30% higher than MIJ guitars also hand made with quality materials . Vola for example is about 700 pounds. for their Strat influenced model.
I would actually love to try this guitar up against some MIJ guitars. I've never played a Vola for more than a couple of minutes at a trade show but I always hear great things about them... to keep up with this PJD they would need to be pretty special!
You know what, it IS a little dark... I love it though ;) I had to give this guitar back for the Guitar Summit display but I'm trying to manifest it returning my way again soon!
I got to play the York earlier this year, and it's a totally different vibe and beast. It has that lovely Tele twang thing going on, and that's something these pickups don't really replicate. The neck P90 has some jangle, but it's not quite the same. The bridge humbucker is a different thing altogether, but a coil split would get you closer! Overall, the St. John is a much fatter sounding guitar.
@@PooNinja Me also, totally not my thing normally but it's an unmissable siren at the gates of the Ibanez booth! (On one of my day job Gravity stands too, which helps 😉)

Clicked for the cool-looking offset.
Stayed for the excellent demo riffs.
Oh yeah, thanks a lot! Long live the riff 😎 And this PJD is pretty special... hope you also get to try one sometime!

I love this Model ST. John. Great guitar from York UK***
Me too... it seems to fit perfectly with everything I do :) Have you seen their York model, by the way? That's also one I'd love to try!

So you LIKE going without!
Help me! Harley benton SC -450 plus good or i should’t buy it?
Hey there! I've tried the SC-450 Plus, and for me it was excellent - I heartily recommend it :)
@@RichWordsMusic thank you very much bro!
@@mirsaid9352 No worries, hope you get to try one soon!
Sounds ok, BUT I thought that neck P90 was a bit DARK!
You know what, it IS a little dark... I love it though ;) I had to give this guitar back for the Guitar Summit display but I'm trying to manifest it returning my way again soon!
How do you think the pickups compare to a tele set, like in the York?
I got to play the York earlier this year, and it's a totally different vibe and beast. It has that lovely Tele twang thing going on, and that's something these pickups don't really replicate. The neck P90 has some jangle, but it's not quite the same. The bridge humbucker is a different thing altogether, but a coil split would get you closer! I'll get to try both next week, pretty excited! @@RichWordsMusic
👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers friend!
I wish I didn't hate the headstock shape so much
I have that too - some amazing guitars put me off purely because of the headstock shape. Not this one, luckily for me!
Totally not an offset guy, but the thing really does sound good, like really good.
I am an odd wobbler 😂
@@PooNinja 😂😂😂 It's something else! I keep going to ogle it at Guitar Summit 🙃
@@RichWordsMusic I saw a beautiful swirl Ibanez there this year…. Wait what?!
