Something I just realized: Claudia...Dahlia...Heather...all of the key female characters involved in this ritual are all named after flowers. Funny, that.
You’re one of the few youtubers who still make videos about silent hill, I really want to thank you for that. Your channel deserves a billion times more appreciation than it already has!
A bunch of UA-cam channels made silent hill content, but that was around silent hill pt announcement and cancellation. They knew it will bring viewers... by now yeah there’s no consistency of silent hill content as this channel is :,)
Rebirth is my favorite ending in SH2! I love the idea that James is taking Mary to the island, to magically raise her from death. I like to imagine that it worked out well, with no horrific, dark consequences. I know that that was probably not the case. But I can't blame him. I'd do the same for my love if the need and opportunity arose. The ethics of it be damned!
The Maria ending already showed us the consequences of not learning your lesson. If he DID revive Mary, she was sure to die the exact same way shortly after.
Well Harry was sane. James wasnt. Harry was basically a regular guy caught up in the Order. Probably just thought he'd write everything down in case someone found it.
33:54 "We see Alessa fling people, but this is telepathy, not magic or spells..." If I'm not mistaken telepathy would be communicating via 6th sense, telekinesis would be moving objects via supernatural force, and psychokinesis moving objects via purely mental energy, or psychic power.
I love your videos so much. By far the best Silent Hill explanation videos in UA-cam from all that I've watched. Also love your voice and the way you narrate.
At 14:17 the symbol in question is Pamela Coleman Smith's artistic signature. She was the illustrator of arguably the most famous Tarot deck of all, the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot. www.magicianandfool.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Pamela-initials-PCS-237x300.jpg
So something that I always thought about Silent Hill 4 is, after Walter came back as a ghost he grabbed his own body from the Cemetery (Joseph says he went to Silent Hill and found an empty casket) and nailed his own body to the cross in order to complete the ritual. I also think the ritual of the 21 sacraments failed because it was done with a wrong intent. I think Dahlia was supposed to take care of Walter for longer but she didn't do it because she impulsively try to resurrect God using Alessa instead. I think the original ritual was supposed to someone God and imprison her inside the Mother Stone. It looks like Walter didn't do a very good job in understanding what the ritual was about. Like, the text never tells you to kill 21 people, and we know the ritual Dhalia used in Alessa was done without much planning on her part, since she realized she "could have done it all (her)self" so she probably forgot all about Walter and didn't teach him the whole ritual. And I don't see how the Ritual of Rebirth and Holy Assumption are that different. It sounds like they are the same thing. We don't really see the results of it in SH2 but in SH4 it gives Walter a way to interact with the physical world from the spirit world.
@@spoon366_ No, he had to crucify his body in order to give it as a sacrament. Although the japanese version might imply that body and room might not even be real and only exist in the otherworld. He became a ghost when he died, which split his soul in two because of the cult's indoctrination.
The crucifixion isn't even part of the "21 sacraments" ritual, though. It's part of "the holy assumption." Which was the blood of the 10 first victims and crucifixion of himself. That's the ritual that turned him into a ghost. He just used his killing as the 11th in the 21 sacraments. 2 different rituals, as far as I've always been aware. He just combined them into one.
So this comment should probably get left on your Halo of Sun video but I really think I've figured out what ALIZER is... I had this thought a few years ago, just double checked myself and I really like it. ALIZER is a direct anagram of RAZIEL. Raziel is an extremely interesting angel in Jewish mysticism. As we know from names like Samael and Metatron, Jewish kabbalah/mysticism is reeeeally important to the lore of this game. I will make the 100% certain argument that Alizer is Raziel. Here is a short paragraph from Wikipedia from the article of Raziel the Angel: -- The famous "Book of Raziel the Angel" attributed to this figure is said to contain all secret knowledge, and is considered to be a book of magic. He stands close by God's throne, and therefore hears and writes down everything that is said and discussed.[3] He purportedly gave the book to Adam and Eve after they ate from the forbidden tree of the knowledge of good and evil (that resulted in their expulsion from the Garden of Eden) so the two could find their way back "home" and better understand their God. -- Any thoughts? :)
Kabbala is a good root source, because it has great understanding the inside, and out, the architectonic within, and the effects of that on the symbolic world, the iconic world. In the effluvium of the daimonic (so-called; ie, "small unconsolidated mind stuff") "become" the consolidation of the iconic. Religions are born. Superstitions. Ideas. All for the will to emulate life.
I love these symbolism videos. Amazingly well put together. They're therapeutic to watch, I love just soaking up the information you present. Great job! Keep up the good work!
Yay! A 38 minute long video. Happy Halloween to us. I love your Silent Hill-analysis videos btw. They are really interesting and actually the best analysis videos of SH (and I’ve watched a lot of them). Keep it up.
Veronica Sandström I agree. Her videos awesome. So much symbolism in them I didn’t that there was in the games. Found her channel by accident. I had to subscribe after watching my first video.
The inverted pentagram or pentacle, isn't always used for works of malice. In my particular current, we see the conventional, right side up pentagram as a symbol of order. Where as the upside down one represents chaos, and the Witch or Magician most often uses it to work magic as a way of enforcing our will in to the order of the every day world. To put it all as simply as my currently half-baked mind will allow! ☺️
The right side up pentacle might symbolize the “alchemy of the human body and soul.” In Chinese alchemy, the ultimate goal is immortality and they focus on inner alchemy. Silent Hill later used blatant Chinese alchemy in Book of Memories. The elements in the game are fire, earth, water, wood, steel, blood and light. The first four elements mostly follow the same overcoming cycle as they do in Wu Xing.
I love you're work. If you studied kemetic metaphysics which predates a lot of these references, this game will have a whole new meaning to the Observer. Many of the cultures misinterpreted their teachings and what we are seeing is a twisted version of truth. I've followed this game since it's release and am always blown away because my knowledge is growing so the symbolism takes more of a shape in time.
I vaguely recall there being some kind of in-game explanation for why the town was named Silent Hill. If I'm remembering wrong and there isn't though, I did have the thought... what if the town was named after the piece of land originally referred to as the silent hill, that being the hill of ritual in the middle of the lake?
Walter's victims may correspobd to a tarot deck given 21 major arcana and 21 sacraments. Perhaps he looked for people who could fit into those criteria in some way?
I've watched a few of your Silent Hill symbolism videos, and this one is the most interesting to me. I am planning a D&D campaign with a lot of Silent Hill elements, and this speaks directly to my prep needs there. Thank you.
Its as if these deaths are "charging" the otherworld parallell to the places in which Walter murders. And also as if it's "stretching" the otherworld's borders to the places in which he has killed. Like this: The Otherworld is a type of dimension/ecosystem/magical_space located in the plane of Tir na Nog, it was probably created as we know (A dark place full of horror) due to Alessa's suffering and the ritual to bring god upon her, all mixed with the cult's collective psychic energy carrying their interpretation of the otherworld. Then, at that moment, think of the otherworld as a "bubble" in Tir na Nog, naturally, Tir na Nog exists parallel to the normal world everywhere, but the otherworld is kinda like a "charged with meaning and independant + semi-conscious" space growing inside Tir na Nog and occupying the space in which the natural spiritual space once was. Walter's ritual probably stretched and connected the Otherworld in Silent Hill to a new Otherworld space which was mostly controlled by him and his memories (because the energy composing it cant manifest dimension and aspect out of nothing, it mirrored his memories, thoughts and thinking in some way). I also think that after Walter kills himself as part of The Ritual, his soul is shattered in two, one full of darkness and hatred, and another full of light and goodwill, much like Alessa when she was burned and impregnated with God. Furthermore, I think that the part in Walter's soul that was his 'light and innocence' (which is now separated from him) became possessed by Valtiel, directly linking Valtiel's power and habilities to his conscious mind. In the hospital world, right at the start we can see Walter butchering a creature, which appears to be disfigured and artificial-looking. It's quite possible that Walter has the power to create monsters as he sees fit. One curious last thing. Walter can be pronounced as "Valter" in some phonetics I cant remember, oh... "Valter" "Valtiel" pretty similar right?
Schreibers room 302 of the past says that the 21 sacraments are to do with the descent of the devil and not some mother. So maybe the god of the order.
Another reason why alchemy would be important to the Cult of Silent Hill is because alchemy is actually associated with spiritual transformation, cleansing and rebirth. The transmutation of base matter is, in alchemical "theology", the physical symbol of spiritual change. Gold is considered the spiritually purest of metals, hence why the Philosopher's Stone and Panacea are as likely to be associated with changing base metals into gold as with healing sickness and wounds, restoring the dead, or granting immortality. So, you're not really "reaching" when you suggest that alchemy could be tied to the Cult's beliefs of spiritual transformation, it's the actual theology behind alchemy, so the two mesh together very well.
So, funny thing happens from about 15:00. That circle-with-circles-within-them instantly cried out "halo of the sun" to me. I was actually surprised you had no explanation for this. Immediate next shot, you show the circle-with-circles-within-them-death-machine from SH4 which is actually used in a resurrection ritual right there. Honestly: I laughed out loud and facepalmed. The answer was right there in front of you all along. Greatly enjoy the topic of this video nevertheless; thank you.
Huge Silent Hill fan. I search for Silent Hill content regularly. Why has UA-cam been hiding this channel from me?! This channel popped up in my recommendations yesterday. Seriously UA-cam, wtf. Excellent content here, just in time for my humanities paper!
As far as magic goes, the drug PTV made from White Claudia is a reference to Psychick TV, a british acid house band who were notable for having an international following of fans who were into magic rituals and psychedelic drug usage, and they had a number of PTV houses where members would gather for music, psychedelic drugs, and performing or learning about magic. Also, before Psychic TV, they were known as Throbbing Gristle, and they recorded a very disturbing "song" about a woman alive in the ICU despite having horrible burns all over her body, much like Alessa in Silent Hill.
@@cleverlydevisedmythThere are a few direct references to it in Silent Hill 1. There's a box in the hospital store room that literally says "Psychick TV", and if you read the sign at the bridge control room, it says "Orridge Bridge", a reference to the main singer of PTV, Genesis Orridge. I was just replaying SH1 recently and came across those.
I don't usually state this but these Silent Hill videos are a gift and getting lost in these videos is the closest thing I can get to being within that quiet little town near Toluca lake 🙌
This is great I really lo email this so much going on here wow I'm totally enchanted even tho it isn't Halloween. I love your style of story telling and gaming expertise xo
I think the sigils are unique to the series and are just there to be interpreted as ambiguous magical symbols. I'm sure some of them have meaning though.
GIRL, I’m the biggest Silent Hill fan! (It’s a problem how much I love this series. Silent hill is a part of me) and I just want to tell you you’re AWESOME for doing this! Thank you! YES, VALTEL IS THE RED GOD IN MY OPINION TOO! You’re freaking AMAZING! Thaaaaank you, thank you for your nerdism feeding my nerdism! I’m a forever fan now mamas! KEEP OUR SERIES ALIVE!
I love this channel, your a walking dictionary. A true believer in truth, a modern-day champion. Please keep uploading videos. Your my source of inspiration.
Those occultic symbols are sometimes alchemy, sometimes conjuring or witchcraft or whatever. Alchemy is all about transmutation, and possibly transubstantiation of matter. The pentagram is the classic symbol of alchemy as it does represent earth, wind, fire, water, and spirit, as well as their interaction with each other. This version is known as the Pythagorean pentagram, because it was the symbol of the Philosopher Kings of ancient Greece (and a general symbol for (what makes a) human). The circle around the pentacle, and as depicted in other symbols, is a containment ring; it symbolizes how everything inside of it is its own order, cycle, or being. The pentacle with a point on top represents spirit's ascent/superiority over matter, while the point down represents the descent of spirit. When you see sigils added to alchemy symbols then it is more of a ritualistic symbol specific to some cult, and many of these symbols now have entirely different meanings. The Satanic pentagram didn't even exist until a few hundred years ago (yet ignorant people associate all pentagrams as Satanic, which really annoys me!). This plays into SH because The Order, and its predecessors, have basically created their own other worlds, so their symbols are tailor-made for their own rituals. Also, the Halo of the Sun is another key alchemy symbol: three small circles within a containment circle. It stands for the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, which are all major themes in SH. Maybe that one symbol on the wall with four circles is a bastardization of this, creating a fourth state of existence. That's kind of what the other world is anyway, I guess.
After watching more of the video: The symbols you see in the Halo of the Sun (and elsewhere) are based on known languages. The runes are Furthark, which is the progenitor to Germanic/Nordic languages, and is probably specifically Elder Futhark. The sigils are based on Theban script, which has to do with witchcraft I guess. The bug-looking things by the small circles I don't really know, but always thought they had to do with agriculture or metamorphosis. Probably metamorphosis, which is also a theme throughout SH (particularly in SH1, with the larva and moth, Alyssa/Cheryl/Heather, etc.).
The leviathan cross is also known as a satanic cross of "live, death( the 8 for infinity, endless suffering between an endless circle of living and dying), resurrection and ascension "
Your videos are so great! Back in 2003-2005 I was all about the first 4 Silent Hills. Playing them, trying to figure out the influences and references. Such a dark and immersive world the first game alone had! Thank you for the esoterica.
Hello Muse, excellent Silent Hill videos🙂. Btw since the Obsidian Goblet and Mesoamerican topics were mentioned, there is this cartoon that has some mysteries tied to Obsidian things, its called Victor and Valentino, you should check it out.
I would like to note that the cell with all the occult books and imagery is located in the southern corridor of the prison. This corridor is also full of lying figures when you enter it. In the northern corridor of the prison, you can find a cell in which you can notice pictures of the Stations of the Cross if you look closely. There are also no enemies in the northern corridor. Its as if the northern corridor represents Heaven whilst the southern corridor represents Hell, two possible locations James is destined to go to depending on his actions in game. Its also interesting to note that both cells are located next to the cell in which a "prisoner" is, who appear to be chanting something. Of course, both of these cells could also hint that the town's cult is an amalgamation of all sorts of religions, occultism etc... P.S. But are any of the rituals actual rituals? Or is the power of the town (whatever it might be), just manifesting results for these "rituals" based on the people who believe them? Its like what Vincent tells Claudia: "But I do believe in Her... in my own way. I fear Her and I adore Her, but I haven't lost my mind like you. You think that this is the work of God? Isn't this all nothing more than your own personal nightmare? Just like Alessa 17 years ago? If this really is the work of God, then I'd say She has pretty lousy taste." "Go home? This church is my home. I built it with my power! The power of money that you view with such scorn! Although, I admit that this atrocious scenery is all yours." This would also explain why the seal of Metatron had no power in Claudia's otherworld whilst it had power in Alessa's...
Just a thought Muse; but. Lisa. Maybe she was protected because of the drug she had been taking? What if in her 'death scene' that's not blood she's covered in but, Aglaophotis? I have no idea if or how that would change anything, but. Hey, it's an idea.
You should do a video of those large Industrial fans i see everywhere in the otherworld. I know why everything else like meat carcasses, dead bodies, lots of blood and rusted stuff, rusted fences and grating with pieces of meat/skin and blood on it etc appear, but i dont understand what those large industrial ventilation fans symbolise. Maybe you should to a symbolism of the Otherworld and explain this in that.
Love the video! Personally (and I don’t know much about alchemy and the occult), when I saw the 4 small circles inside the medium circle you spoke about around the 15 minute arc I immediately thought of the ouroboros - the cyclic symbol of the serpent or dragon eating its own tail. Apparently, the symbol also symbolizes life, death and rebirth which leads to immortality. I got that small info from this link here if you want to look at it. www.crystalinks.com/ouroboros.html
You only have 3 demons/angels east/south/west along harvest/life/cycles with 3 circle's that come as representations for each direction unified only after X(10)N) pie(3.14)E), ♍(6 or 8)W and ♎ (7 or 9)S. Offering of voice spoken with objects is required to see/enter. The ♉ or cattle holds the gateway.
First off. Thank you for making this video on my fav survival horror game ever. I love videos like this that can make me think of my past in a different light. Great job fucking job! I truly appreciate your sacrifice here tonight! :P New sub for this. Because everything, and the depth of your research..Could you tell me where you got the name PTV for the drug in silent Hill?
I know I'm late to the party, but if I remember correctly Xuchilbara would be Pyramid Head due to the fact that Xuchilbara is the Red God while Lobsel Vith is the Yellow God, theoretically Valtiel. I could be wrong in this. Since the lore on Silent Hill's creation did mention that there were many gods and angels.
I'm only half way through this but some of the symbols you have a hard time seeing could also be just mandalas as in a symbol of wholeness and rebirth and can be in turn referenced as labyrinths in the journey of coming closer to God or your wholeness as well and the journey of discovery, sacrifice and finally escape
Walter kills himself in prison and his body is dug up from his grave near wish house. I think he did the ritual In prison, resurrects. Is able to have his body retrieved by possessing someone and having it hidden inside room 302. Might be so he can exert control over the room of so he can be reborn Into the room with his mother. There's a very Christ version of resurrection with Walter even down to being nailed to a cross
Twin perfect said there was evidence the ritual was actually he original God summoning ritual and dahlia just used the resurrection ritual to trick Walter even though it didn’t work outside of the island
personally, I think that the drawning ending of sh2 is the canon one. and i think it's true that the monster in homecoming with the 2 bodies melted, with the female body on the back of rthe oter, are james and mary became part of the other world after their deaths. or maybe because of the ritual gone wrong
Out of curiosity, was some of this video cut? I use closed captions often and I noticed that they are a bit off at times; containing entire sentences that aren't being said. There's a lot of extra cool knowledge hidden in them so I've had to go back a bit and pause a few times. But they might be a bit difficult for the Deaf/HoH community since they force the captions to move faster. Anyway I'm a new silent hill fan at age 29 haha. I don't have access to play all of the games at this time but I love your videos, I love how in-depth they are and I find your voice very calming. Also as someone who is pagan/wiccan, I want to say a huge huge thank you for properly explaining the pentacle and its meaning of unity between spirit and body. THANK YOU
Something I just realized: Claudia...Dahlia...Heather...all of the key female characters involved in this ritual are all named after flowers. Funny, that.
Wobbles and Bean I forgot heather was a flower 😂
I can only think of one response to thus detail: Who knew?
One of the known gods of the order is called Xuchilbara, and it means flower spear. It’s allegedly Valtiel.

Sometimes dead is better.

I love the way you deliver "The 21 Sacrament... are total BULLSHIT" at 27:59
I'm guessing the reason the save points in SH1 is the notepad is because it's what Harry does for a living.
Well Harry was sane. James wasnt. Harry was basically a regular guy caught up in the Order. Probably just thought he'd write everything down in case someone found it.

I watch these silent hill videos to this day. This channel gave me such a better appreciation for Silent Hill
I tattoo the the seal of metraton on my left shoulder and halo of the sun on my right shoulder
Now you need The Mark of Samael on the neck!

Huge Silent Hill fan. I search for Silent Hill content regularly. Why has UA-cam been hiding this channel from me?! This channel popped up in my recommendations yesterday. Seriously UA-cam, wtf.
Excellent content here, just in time for my humanities paper!
Coming back and rewatching a bunch of these videos for a silent hill au in making!
Great video Muse, SH4 is such a great game. Always enjoy going back and playing this. Really enjoyed this.
You won me over, keep up the Silent Hill!!
Also, before Psychic TV, they were known as Throbbing Gristle, and they recorded a very disturbing "song" about a woman alive in the ICU despite having horrible burns all over her body, much like Alessa in Silent Hill.
cool! i didn't know about this reference!
@@cleverlydevisedmyth The song that parallels Alessa is called "Hamburger Lady" and sounds a lot like the terrifying ambient noise in Silent Hill
sweet, i love learning about these kind of references! :) @@gryaznygreeb
32:30 part of the symbol resembles the Owl Cave symbol from Twin Peaks (the bug-like symbol near the bottom of the inner circle)
Finally! Someone uses the PTV explanation for Lisa! You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for it to be addressed on a wider scale!
I don't usually state this but these Silent Hill videos are a gift and getting lost in these videos is the closest thing I can get to being within that quiet little town near Toluca lake 🙌
a lore on monsters would be a nice idea for a video
Magic is definetly returning to our old earth cheers and thanks for this video. Lots going on here in our town I mean world

This is great I really lo email this so much going on here wow I'm totally enchanted even tho it isn't Halloween. I love your style of story telling and gaming expertise xo
Great video! Your thoughts and insight really help me understand more of this awesome lore.
I think the sigils are unique to the series and are just there to be interpreted as ambiguous magical symbols. I'm sure some of them have meaning though.
that bottle Kaufman threw looks like a ketchup bottle lol
I love your videos because all the research you do and how it relates to are word and I thank you for all of it

After watching more of the video:
The symbols you see in the Halo of the Sun (and elsewhere) are based on known languages.
I think it's also alchemical symbol for brimstone aka sulfur.
Damnnnn that symphonic silent hill theme sounds amazing!
Love your videos Muse, seen nearly all of them. Would love to be able to become a patron to the channel as soon as I am better off financially 😊
I miss Silent Hill so much 😭
So do I.
Play at 1.25 times for normal speech tempo.
What an awesome vídeo ! Congratulations

Love your content 🥰
cool!muse ,please do more silent hill ,love your vids
Its like what Vincent tells Claudia:
"But I do believe in Her... in my own way. I fear Her and I adore Her, but I haven't lost my mind like you. You think that this is the work of God? Isn't this all nothing more than your own personal nightmare? Just like Alessa 17 years ago? If this really is the work of God, then I'd say She has pretty lousy taste."
"Go home? This church is my home. I built it with my power! The power of money that you view with such scorn! Although, I admit that this atrocious scenery is all yours."
This would also explain why the seal of Metatron had no power in Claudia's otherworld whilst it had power in Alessa's...
Isolation is the best way Silent Hill scares the player. And I love this method. It messes with your mind.
I've been expecting you.
It was foretold by Gyromancy.
The ♉ or cattle holds the gateway.
the four items necessary for the ritual have the color of the alchemical process...black, white, green and red
That opening cover is a slapper
9:45 missed a chance at a heavily dated joke about the band Incubus
First off. Thank you for making this video on my fav survival horror game ever. I love videos like this that can make me think of my past in a different light. Great job fucking job! I truly appreciate your sacrifice here tonight! :P
New sub for this. Because everything, and the depth of your research..Could you tell me where you got the name PTV for the drug in silent Hill?
It's from the wiki - I tend to use the silent hill wiki to refresh my memory of the games when needed, and it lists the drug from SH1 as "ptv".
Your videos are so interesting to me on lore of games and such amazing work. ✌🏻🌈🇬🇧
Yep, cuts her apart, yet she can still walk, all her limbs are intact. The same for Cynthia.
It seems like there are some rules for magic, but that perhaps the town lets these things happen if the individuals believe that they will happen.
21 Sacraments was just to feed the otherworld garmonbozia. Leading up to Silenthill(s)
personally, I think that the drawning ending of sh2 is the canon one. and i think it's true that the monster in homecoming with the 2 bodies melted, with the female body on the back of rthe oter, are james and mary became part of the other world after their deaths. or maybe because of the ritual gone wrong
Really loved the murder analysis'. Great video!
"Happy Halloween",Muse
strangled them....a weapon he always has on...hand.....hngggg that hurt
Love yo vidz!!!
Instantly suscribed when I saw this video
You mention limestone in the video. Limestone supposedly has the ability to increase paranormal activity
THANK YOU
Great video but one little correction, the cause of death by crucifixion is suffocation
