Having treated many of these cases years ago while managing an equine-only veterinary clinic in Texas. The treatment that we used was 60ml of DMSO 99.9% pure in 1 liter of saline through an indwelling 18ga IV catheter full flow. We found the Madigan Squeeze only marginally effective for these cases, so we adopt the far more effective IV therapy. We had many brought into the clinic limp as a dishrag, unable to even raise their head off the floor and certainly with no such reflex. Typically, before the entire liter of heavily laced DMSO/fluids was administered the foal would be standing and searching for food with a strong suck reflex. The determination in most of the cases was oxygen deprivation during delivery resulting in swelling of the brain stem. DMSO has a profound anti-inflammatory effect especially on the brain and related organs. And at the same time, unlike most anti-inflammatory drugs, it has no adverse effects on the GI tract. So, this became our go-to therapy for this condition with a remarkably high success rate.
That is just amazing! Lost a lovely saddlebred foal years back that looked perfect-yet would not stand or show suckle reflex-wish I'd have known about this treatment then:(

Who the fuck figured this out!? That's crazy
This is like the same as forcing your lagged computer to restart lol
But without threatening to throw it out in the street or cussing!

😁
it is so cute
You factory reset a horse using a rope
I’m intrigued 😂
Been nice if they done the method on a dummy or stuff animal so maybe someone could help their foal if can't get to a vet.
Why leave the neck wrap and bridle on?
Mièrt tekerted .be à nyakànàl?Rosso nèzni is.Ezt ne csinàld!
To hold an IV in place. Its and intravenous catheter to give hydration, medications and to take and give blood if need be.
Why is the foal's neck wrapped?
jude doesgamez - Looks like it's holding a nasogastric feeding tube in place.
The wrap is meant to hold feeding tubes and IVs against the neck so they don't get ripped out by horses being horses.
