- This Mazdaspeed is no joke, turbo 4-cylinder madness! Pulling into the lanes of Street Car Takeover’s Bristol event at Tennessee’s “Thunder Valley” dragway, this speed demon hatchback entered into the Mild Street Roll Race class AND the Front Wheel Drive Drag Race class! Mostly making passes looking for crucial tuning data, the owner and his Mazdaspeed 3 had a great time making pass after pass. One pass he even managed to backhalf a Supra in the roll race, which is where the car really caught our attention!

Yea I love the way my 08 looks compared to the gen 2s. And I like that Ford had a huge part in the motor. I'm super familiar with rebuilding ford motors haha it's a fun car and reliable if you know what your doing. I must say there picky motors.thougb
@@dannyjr7997 Could always swap out the final drive. I've seen some 4.6-4.9 (I think? around that anyway) aftermarket kits that look pretty fun. Anything above 4.5 could be a bit too short tho and you'd always be at higher rpms while cruising.

I've had mine for 10 years and I'm on the same block and same engine internals. Bigger "baby" turbo with supporting bolt ons. It's all about how you take care of it, with the exception of drag racing. That shot will break anything eventually
@@Fullmetal0787 I totally agree..had mine for 14+ yrs..clean the valves regular oil changes and tuned by Freak with a BNRS3 on e33. Straight gas in the winter. No issues.

@@Jeff-lo4ud Actually, the 2.5's take quite well to boost and speed3 parts fit on the 2.5l. Its pretty expensive, and there is a little bit of farbicating you need to do, but all the major parts you need to boost a 2.5 already exist as upgrades for speeds.

Really is a shame. I finally got a car I can call my own, I got the standard Mazda 3 and I absolutely love it. Even for a standard model it looks really nice and sporty. Over here in the UK (the 'speed3 versions) they're called "Mazda 3 MPS".

Turbo as long as it's not the skyactiv so like 2010-2013 I think. The compression ratio is so high in the skyactiv motors, that they really can't take much boost at all and like to blow.

But I would say these cars not really for drag racing.

I've raced a souped up focus ST in my jaguar s type R,and he took me at take off then I ended up passing,they are fast cars especially when they have high boost I was surprised I actually raced a fast focus ST
They don't last long when you tune them that's why, open deck engines like to go pop with lots of boost

This is literally the first Mazda Speed 3 that i've seen with more than 400HP. I guess this proves that more power can be had out of that 2.3 engine. But what happened at the end of the video? Friends of mine who own Speed 3's say they are notorious for throwing codes which makes modifying a serious pain in the arse.
1000hp has been made in a speed3. 500hp used to be a unicorn build for speed but these days 650+ is getting considerably more common

@@Sk0die Sad to say no. After the tune on the dyno I never did get around to tracking it. But she's def quick enough to pull on 392 & Scat Pack Chargers / Challengers and 5.0 Mustangs on the regular.
That's on the highway.. from a dig at a stop light it's a totally different story! Turbo lag man. But yeah.. she's a fun car and I'll probably keep her at this level as she's been pretty reliable.
Oh.. I'm lying.. I did blow the head gasket a few months after she got tuned. So that was another few thousand to make sure that didn't happen again.
SO after that yeah.. she's been running great.

You'll do know there are huge differences in weight based off the safety standards of both time periods. Around 3200 from factory, I believe I got my old one to 2880 or somewhere around there. Gutted interior from front seats back, no spare no seat belts in rear not extra bolts etc. Full bolt ons e85 was a fun car! But sold it for a 517whp srt4 and well now I'm 13 more cars in 😂

I have one if those, you can unlock a LOT of power with only intake, inlet and downpipe, just need a hpfp upgrade and freektune, overall its probably the cheapest power and daily driver qualities you can get for the price, specially with the used price on market since its underrated. The only thung i dont like with this car is how fucking short the 1 and 2 gear is, this aint no high rev machine, its a torque monster.

That Engine can't handle high rpm's on mid-high boost. Should try higher compression piston's. Like 12:1 ratio as example matching up with a strong map setup.

🤦🏽♂️ not all Supra's are 1500 whp .. The majority of Supra's are FAST AS F*CK but not all.
Mine is 400 crank hp and i get walked by a few cars.
Mazdaspeed is cool and all, but kinda shit... if you want any real horsepower you have to demand like 700 horsepower out of that little 4 cylinder. Something is always bound to break. It's a weak system unless you're willing to invest thousands of dollars and hours into getting everything just right. Even then you still get problems.
My 2007 Speed 3 has become a money pit with 150,000 miles. Just replaced the transmission. I've have spent lots of my money on repairs. I do most of the repairs myself too. I upgraded most of those repairs to aftermarket but its a constant battle. Now my AC is out. How am I going to upgrade anything if I'm dumping money in maintenance and repairs? Parts for this car are not cheap. Now the clear coat is shot in a few spots. The car is old and soon will either need a overhaul or a junk yard. I can detest being an original owner and it was one of the first speeds sold in Florida. I've had her a long time and it will be hard to lose her with all the parts,money and effort. I think I have the valves and engine cleaned of carbon and ride her out until her dying day!

Couldn't tell exactly, but that looked like my buddys old Supra he sold a few weeks ago. If so, that driver has zero seat time in the Supra. And that car is very difficult to launch.
If you let go of the steering wheel, it'll take out the supra either way.
