I used to valet, these scooters are the absolute worst for people working on the streets of a city. I would constantly have to dodge these people driving around their bird and lime scooters, and once they were done using them they would often just drop them wherever they are. Which could be in the street, on the sidewalk, in MY VALET PARKING SPACE, etc. Long story short, I have been seen throwing these scooters in a pile in an alleyway before just to get them out of my sight.

People at my university leave them lying across the sidewalk, blocking the way. Imagine how people in wheelchairs must feel when their path is blocked. Just be considerate and park your scooter out of the way, SMH.

As someone who uses his own bike to commute, one thing I find so god damn annoying about these things is that people park them by the bike racks. They're not locked up, they have their own stand, so they're just getting in the way for no reason when I roll up looking for a place to lock up to.

at my local statewide busstation people usually block the bike parking space all around so I usually have to "throw" one to the side to be able to put my bike in the parking spot.

We had these introduced in my city for like a month. I forget what the company was called, but how they'd work is that a truck was supposed to drive through and pick up all the location tracked scooters, charge them, and bring them to their designated station.
College town, so they got used, buuuut they ran into several issues:
1- weather. This is one of the coldest parts of the country, we had like 2 feet of snow 2 months after the scooters were brought in. Then the snow melted a little, and refroze. No traffic in like half the town because roads are just inaccessible. Which means the truck could not collect the scooters even if they could get into town. So we had scooters just frozen under snow until it thawed... 8 months later.
2- car-oriented town. Half the streets have no sidewalk, and the scooters have to abide by bicycle rules. Bikes are ALSO not used because town ordinance requires driving on the road, and nobody in their right mind wants to bike in traffic.
3- older population. Maybe 1 in 10 people here know how to use a smartphone. So only the college students could use them although I imagine they were aiming for the drinking populace at large (We have maybe 1 bar on every city block). I doubt it was remotely profitable.
4- kids are stupid. A lot of these were destroyed just for fun. Once saw a chick throw one into a construction site while recording on her phone. Who is gonna stop them? City isn't paying for it, they don't care, and again, that one charger truck thing doesn't come through town enough
I haven't seen one in like a year now. All the local news stations raved about it for that first month and then nobody seemed to know they existed by the time spring came back around.

After me and a friend got done seeing a movie he suggested we use these (at the time) new E-Scooters to get to his house.
The damn thing moved so fast that when I hit a crack in the ground the scooter swung and chopped my ankle open!

One time someone left a scooter knocked over in my driveway, but the majority of it was hidden behind a short wall. I didn't see it as I backed out, and the handlebar poked up and broke something off my undercarriage. I already hated them, but that solidified my hatred even further.

I wished escooters had a disgnated parking area that acts as a charger to them ainilar to those bicycle share rides. I like the bicycle share rides because they have a spot I can put them and I do not fell guilty for using it. Furthermore, juat having designated spots to park would get rid of moat of the problema with escooters.

hi, e-scooter user and owner here.
Everyone is ALWAYS afraid of me riding the scooter as a daily mode of transport. I treat it like a bike, and ride on the road with it. I try my best NOT to be in anyone's way. I'm able to bring my scooter to work but I had been "discriminated" (I guess) by security because they legit think I bring in a shareable one which is my own, but they do not care. I still discreetly come in to work and hide it. This is my only mode of transport now. I could have bought a bike, but i'm not a good rider and of course I could teach myself to ride more efficiently, but I just feel like... it's easier to ride an e-scooter for me. Did it cost more? I mean, not by much from a regular bicycle. about $100 over a nicely priced bike.
idk what i'm trying to say. I just use it on the bike lanes when I can. It's scary as shit but it's no different than if I go out using a bike. I'm more of the type that would never use a scooter if I can just walk around, but I can't afford a car and it's my only form of transportation. Bird and Lime was what got me to use it on a daily basis, and it helped me get to work efficiently on the road. Which is why I bought my own scooter in the first place. I don't think my city allows ride-share e-scooters anymore beyond the downtown district anyways. So, as a scooter user, it's scary, but what else can I do besides saving up for a bike which I have to be scared of cars anyway?
All in all, i'm more critical of my city's infrastructure as they are more car-centric than what the e-scooters have done. They definitely introduced a cool new mode of transport, but I think people should own one rather than rent and throw them around in sidewalks.

This stuff is incredibly aggravating even for other pev riders. On my electric board I'm in more danger near lime scooters, over lifted truck guys. It's not their property they're risking so they don't car. I've watched 16 year old run into a baby stroller with a kid in it, laugh and ride away. I would rather encounter a 75 year old lady riding an ebike at 28mph flying through blind corners every day, if it meant I never see a rent scooter ever again

It probably would be illegal for me to use it on the road since its not fast enough and its very dangerous. tbh i dont use it that much because im afraid of seriously hurting someone else or myself lol

I think that the one-time cost of buying your OWN bike/scooter is much more of a better investment than renting these. There’s a lot lower of a bar for these rental transports, so assholes who just wanna screw around ride them. Even people who ride their OWN bikes just…think it’s safe to ride in a 4 lane road at night, while it’s raining (true story, have encountered somebody doing that in my neighborhood which only has streetlights in some areas) without any reflectors, headlights, or turn signals. It really baffles me that there are no turn signals available for bikes! It’s hard to balance trying to steady the bike/scoot and signaling with your arm/hand to act as a turn signal. I think if your body is done growing-AKA college age-using a bike to commute is a great idea, but make sure to get reflectors and a headlight, wear a helmet, ditch the earbuds/headphones, and get a reflective jacket (Atsuko makes some reflective jackets with your favorite Amine characters on em!).

e-scooters are just a way to circumvent the rules of the road. They serve the exact same purpose of a 50cc Vespa, but differently from it they can avoid helmet regulations, arrows regulations, light regulations, insurance regulations etc. The whole point of an escooter is not to be something new that was needed, but to be able to break rules with impunity. In my country soon they will be regulated and forced to have lights, arrows, insurance etc and ride on the road. I can bet whatever that they will simply disappear as soon as they re not a viable way to break every possible rule of the road.

Lime and some other companies have these e-scooters in Germany too, only in bigger cities. There, I've seen them in clusters of 3-5 standing around, but never on the sidewalk or where they'd inconvenience people. I see teens using them where I live, adults rarely seem to.
The reason why people throw scooters in lakes, rivers, carelessly leave them wherever, is because it really has no consequences for them. It costs them a few bucks at most.
Where I live most people actually own their scooters, two of my friends do, so they had to buy them and pay insurance and all that, which obviously makes them care more about what happens to the thing.
