- Hey guys! I'm finally back after finishing my last semester of study. Unfortunately, I was way too busy to edit and upload during this period. But I am getting around to editing the clips now, so in the next few series of vlogs you'll be able to see what I've been up to during my time away~ And hopefully this series also gives you a bit of an insight as to what it's like being a fashion student too! I'm a doctor but I love fashion and I have new found love for sewing and have always just wanted to do fashion designing even before choosing to have a career in the medical world but as an intern I've finally learned that nothing can replace mental health and happiness so I'm gonna follow my heart after this and I'm so glad I've come across your video today for the first time💜 Its so peaceful and motivating to see your life as a student in this field🌸🧚🏻♀️🌾
Hi! I'm struggling so much rn because I don't know what to do for my degree. What do you think about this? Do you think being a fashion designer instead of a doctor worth it? I want to study fashion so badly but I'm kinda scared bc salaries in fd aren't that great. I would love to know what ypu think about this.
@@user-yj5jd9rf6x Hi there. If you want to choose a profession I'd suggest that you shortlist a few..atleast 3 choices based on 1. what you love to do, 2. What would land u a job faster and 3, what would earn you money that you decide as success for youself.
I'd definitely encourage you to follow your love for a field bcz you'd not feel like you're really working when u do what you love. In all fairness, any job is difficult and requires a lot of hardwork to reach a level of success and special skills too. So if you do what you love, chances are that you'd be more willing to work hard for it and to improve your skills.
I come from a country where doctors are underpaid, especially dentists. The amount of money spend on becoming one and the stress isn't worth it if you're not interested because it's going to really mess with one's mental health.
From my experience, I went with love for the course although my passion was dancing and fashion designing. I had such traumatic experiences from the first day of college and my mental health and physical health deteriorated quickly. I also have been suffering from chronic illness such as fibromyalgia and being in such a toxic environment has triggered my pain and fatigue to put me bed bound. I somehow bit my tongue and pushed through with exams and that was only bcz I have a good intelligence. This is my personal experience.
One thing I'd like you to keep in mind is to figure out what you want to do long term...what kind of work and personal life goals you have in mind, whether you want to retire soon, or have a 3 hour work job or two sources of income...it all depends and comes down to this.
So if u really really love fashion, then don't think much and go for it. And if, and only if you ever feel like u made a bad decision, don't worry, life can begin at any age and its never too late to start over. We are all imperfect and its the beauty of it. Don't stress and take deep breaths whenever you feel like things are overwhelming you. Do what you really love and follow your heart.

@@smallsavage9717 even if you love it, it’s hard. You end uni with terrible health and enter a world where you will get paid sooooo badly and treated like sh***. You spend months looking for a job and there is no enough jobs for all of us. It’s mentally really hard

I understand that fashion designing is difficult, and I kind of want to get into fashion design a bit, just for the sake of learning. But I'm kind of nervous to get started on it because of how difficult it could be. Might try anyway though, wish me luck 😅

Staring my third year and it honestly makes me feel so much better that you show your mistakes. I only started sewing when I started college so I always felt like I was behind in comparison to my classmates. No shame in doing things again!
me too!! i know we have to put double or even triple more work than others (who started sewing earlier) but its all worth it!! don't compare urself coz its ur own journey ☺️ just aim to be better than yesterday right? 😎

It's fascinating to watch you sew and crafting a fabric into fashionable cloth. I swear its looks easy but in reality, you have be very precise about stitching and clean seams. Good Job.

Exactly! It looks like a piece of cake to sew an outfit but once I tried it, it was a little harder than I thought it would. I don’t have too much trouble with it as I don’t stick to patterns so there isn’t really anyone to say that it’s either right or wrong as it’s entirely my own creation.

I personally want to get into styling and creative direction or like product development? But theres some who go onto make their own brands! Or work for other brands as a garment technician, machinist, designer, buyer etc

This video is very realistic. A lot of people think people who study in this fashion major don't struggle, well we didn't sleep mostly, I have many friend that drop out in the first year and from 2 big class turn into 1 small class in 3rd year and some time just 2-3 people show up. Anyway, seeing the result of my work is really make me proud of myself and that is the motivation that keep pushing me.
oh 💯💯!!! So many people drop out lol (or want to drop out). But yes! I personally loved staying up to do what I love so thats what got me through it. But my gosh it was stressful hahaha I probably thought about dropping out every single moment 😂

I've had a dream of being in the fashion business management field ever since I was 10. Although most of my studies will be related to business, I cant be a good CEO nor start my dream brand if I cant even sew a dress. You show the good and bad sides of fashion and I love your content! Oh definitely start with UA-cam! There's so many talented sewers on UA-cam, that you can definitely start learning from here (Basic patternmaking/dart manipulation/sewing) But once you knock down the basics, definitely practice through patternmaking books (which can be found at most public libraries, or u can buy them off ebay etc) because you can get a lot more technical with it!
