Carrying A Ranger Out Of Lockhart Basin
Вставка

- Got a call for a Ford Ranger with a broken front coilover out on Lockhart Basin Road. The customer wanted us to go get the vehicle and get it out while they ordered parts and they could repair it but it would be out of that remote of an area. So we went in with Ol Blue and the scrambler. We took an extra 10 gallons of fuel with us to be sure we had enough. It was a very long drive into them. On the way out Blue ran out of fuel first, so we put 5 gallons in. Then the scrambler ran out about 10 miles from the trailer, so we put a couple gallons in it. Then we loaded the scrambler and the ranger on the gooseneck and started driving Blue as far as we could. Once it ran out we just left it, then Shawn and Mike came back in the morning and drove it back. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Thanks for the tow guys! For those wondering, the coilovers had a hard 70k miles on them so it wasn't too much of a suprise when it broke. We actually took it out and welded it back together( if you look at the shaft at 5:26 you can see whats left of the weld from the briefcase flux core welder). It made it a few more miles like that then broke again and thats when we decided to call rory. He was gracious enough to let us keep it in his yard for a few days while we waited on the parts to come in. We fixed it and then drove it 1800 miles back home to the east coast with no problems. 5 star rating, would use this buisness again lol
Cool seeing a vehicle I know but so sad at same time..
Glad you called the correct guys to fish you out!
k
Thank you for keeping us entertained ❤
Wow- long day at the office.... thanks for taking us along!
It's amazing how capable a basically stock square body is. And it's a shame GM hasn't made something like it since.
I will never understand why GM abandoned a solid front axle in favor of IFS, sad that chevy guys have to buy something else in order to get a solid front axle
Hands down my favorite off road recovery team!!
Shawn and Mike are the best sidekicks on the tube!!
On the technical side, it's probably easy to impress an ignorant like me, but I'm always impressed by the torque and traction of your rigs in difficult terrain. Great video once again, and I never tire of the sound of Blue 😻.
Much respect to Rory and his crew. Y’all respect the land and have a great time doing it. !!!!
Hope you guys never change or change the dynamic in the show. Some of the other channels seem to have gone more Hollywood and not the same. Keep up the awesome work.
Rory did go Hollywood. He got new teeth.
@@EMA-uk5ob I believe he posted about it. Medical related. In any case, whatever the reason, that is hardly “gone Hollywood” in my opinion.
Yeah I agree, some of the other channels that have gone full reality TV style has me feeling a little YELLOW about it.
I think we all need a Mike and a Shawn narrating our life’s, with a side of Rory wisdom every so often 😂
As a fan of several recovery channels, I see why Rory and his crew are the go to guys.👌
There is no one on you tube that takes it to the limit that he and his crew does. He literally lives life on the edge everyday. The addrenilan has to be awesome.
@@Steelegotcha out of all of the channels that I subscribe to pertaining to off-road recovery, This is my favorite number one channel. This channel deserves to have 1 million subscribers. By-Far!! And I do everything I can to drive traffic to this website. By posting Rory’s videos on Facebook.
Could be wrong but seems he's been doing this and this specifically before he recorded it, before sponsors and outside recognition. Fishing people out of the rocks with American pushrods, leafsprings, hammers and stick welds. Some of the others I follow came to it from other fields in the past couple years, on road tow, heavy equipment recovery, body shop, one was even TV famous. I enjoy them all for different reasons and they're all different. Though Rory and Co. do some of the most difficult things, they do it on the daily, as ever, and to me at least it's more familiar to my life (though I don't do super hero stuff with my truck much). I love that it is all pig iron, cutting torch and possible to wrap your head around. When I price some of the stuff I see on some of the channels I'm like damn. Rorys stuff is capable and custom but a dreamer could see themselves heading to the pull and pick and getting started. Hope there's still enough of these old trucks kicking around to keep it going another couple decades. At least the diesels you could work on without a degree have seen a lot of inflation. Just fun people in 4x4 parts mecca doing things we wish we could, but not with stuff we couldn't dream of affording or risking damage to. (I know it ain't all cheap but you know what I'm saying) These guys are the real deal.
fkn a right
He's a savant
Hey Rory!!
Always appreciate you giving us the history on the areas you frequent... (though we haven't had any recent updates on the plight of the Diamond Billed Rockpeckers🙀)
Such incredible country!!!
With you, WisconsinMike, and Shawn on the job, we KNOW it will be a success!! (And great camera documentation!!)
Safe travels, friends ❤❤
Stay FROSTY...
Keep your powder dry and your head on a swivel...

Last week on the White Rim Trail I met the group that the ranger was traveling with. When I asked them if they had broken anything yet, they told me about the red Ranger. I knew this video was coming. Those guys drove from the east coast to drive a bunch of Moab stuff. That's cool that you had a job just right for the blue tow truck. I love your videos, and this one didn't disappoint.
Where'd did we see you? We all are back home safe and sound. 17 days of straight adventure. We hated leaving.
@@VentureUnknown Dark red 2-door Bronco, you guys were on the western half around one of the bathrooms on Thursday afternoon.
@@scottnelson1713 oh yea. I remember. It was a pleasure to meet you.
This recovery is a great example of why you want that big block torque. Nice job guys!
Thanks for keeping it real and no crappy music. The towbill on some of there recoverys must equal the worth of the vehicle.
You guys make these recoveries from unbelievably difficult locations look like its all in a days work. Always amazing to watch.
Ol Blue has some serious torque and traction! Matt would be proud of the gas situation haha
The "monolith" looks a hell of alot like Mike's smudge pot's. just sayin
Another amazing recovery. Really put Blue thru the paces. Always impressed with where the duals go. Still training for dodging cones.
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous! Have you encountered many roadrunners being chased by coyotes?
Love the trash PSA's Shaun. "you know who you are". Then it turns into an instructional video on how to start Blue when you left the key at the shop. LMAO
Your show is my favorite. I watch fab rats and Matt's offroad, but you guys are the best. Thanks for making a great show.
The rear bumper on Blue is amazing and the way you cut the box sides is perfect. I hadn't noticed the the way the box, fenders, and bumper all fit so well. It's like a smooth flow together of the three pieces. Rory designed that whole rearend to perfection. No areas where the tow vehicle is going to damage Blue. Then the setup so that the tow vehicle isn't going to damage Blue.
Great filming which shows the two vehicles together and how Blue tackles the rocks
Another great video and adventure for the Trail Mater Team. Thank you for the entertainment. Keep up the great work. 👍👍
The Utah Office of Tourism should really be paying you guys for the awesome job you do of promoting the rugged beauty of your state. The scenery shots are amazing on top of the fact that you make what you do for a living so interesting and fun to watch. Many thanks to all of you including the editor. Great job.
From Lloyd Downunder ;; Absolutely Amazing Vid, Recovery & Beautful and Amazing Country, CONGRATS Rory n Crew at Farmington, Rock On Ol Blue.👍💪🏁🏁🏁
Used to watch a few off road recovery channels that are liked to this one. Now trail mater is the only one I still watch.
Rory conducting business while Mike is looking for buck rubs!! Mike has his priorities straight!!
Ole Blue is a workhorse for sure. Great recovery guys thank you for sharing
Bring a bag of PB&J sammiches along on each recovery!
Then they would have TomTom from Matt's Off Road Recovery
Those rocks definitely look like sandwiches.
As usual, great teamwork! Blue did a great job handling some pretty rough terrain, but it is because of Rory's driving skill. And Mike, once again, great shots of the surrounding scenery to allow those of us not in Utah to appreciate the beauty of your area. Shawn, you always make me laugh with your laugh! Glad you all work together so well. It's so much fun to ride along with you.
Nice recovery guys! He was definitely beyond walking distance from help!! That was some pretty sketchy country for a tow out. But, as usual, you guys did a right fine job!!
come for the recovery, stay for the scenery. respect to all
I love the lack of ‘cuss’ words. Even if they’re edited out. Thank you!!
Fab Rats is good for some pretty funny non-swears too, and if any of them has a foul mouth and gets bleeped, its Grandma Lolli. 😅
I had to stop and comment on....
...pressurized cheeze
😂😂😂
Throw a sack of Costco trail mix or cashews in each rig. That's some "tide-me-over" food right there. Dense protein.
Nice recovery, but a long day. Ol Blue earned its keep doing this one. Thanks for sharing
Lockhart Basin was the toughest trail I ever did. But that was coming in from Moab (along Doc Allen Drive, and up the waterfall. A lot of fun, despite the destroyed tire and having to limp back to Moab on the spare, which also had a hole in it...
Obviously Mike wasn't always a car mechanic, Well maybe that's what they call them where he came from!! LOL Mike to the rescue again. A man with a plan.
Hey Guys; At minute 2:32, is that Jay Leno? (rock) You'll find him.....Oh and that tree that's NOT a tree ( past video ) is an observation post used for monitoring the poaching of the Diamond Billed Rockpeckers. I really enjoy your videos. Ya make me laugh & I learn a thing or two also. Thank y'all for sharing your adventures with us.
Big thank you to Rory and his crew for picking up after people who just don't seem to know any better. Look like a pretty good recovery for Blue. Great video! Great watching you guys!
It just gets better. Slow and steady wins the race. Reminds me of the old bull/young bull story I grew up with. The young bull and the old bull were standing under a shade tree overlooking the herd of cows down below. The young bull said to the old bull, "Let's run down there and make love to a couple of the ladies." The old bull replied, "Let's just walk down there and make love to 'em all."
On blue Holmes 440 was one of my first wrecker bed back in the late 70s
Thats something that people dont apreciate...the amount of hours you guys put in and wihout lunch on these recoveries. Stay safe guys. Geat video.
I have an idea..pack a lunch....(?)....It's not like they don't know where they are goin'.
@@duder9752 good for you 👍
Another Danger Ranger rescued. Old Blue getting it done. Thanks for sharing.
It’s amazing what your vehicles go through. The mechanics must be geniuses keep them running! 🙂
Love the videos. Hope to visit in the future.
That has to be a $1,000 tow bill…..three guys, two trucks, all day.😮
I love Lockhart Canyon. Good choice going in the way you did, although it took a lot longer. The other side of that canyon on the Chicken Corners side would have been tough to get that truck out without damage. I don't think ol Blue would have made it through the v-notch area without some side panel damage. It is definitely out in the middle of nowhere, which is one of the reasons I like it. Usually plan a two day trip and camp in the middle somewhere. The stars at night are absolutely incredible out there.
How much does a recovery like that cost? 14 hours of driving, 150 miles per vehicle?
Can't beat the 454 Chevy in a pulling rig...
I love to watch your videos and see all the scenery in your part of the country great job on the video and the recovery
🙋🏼♂️ The best photography on u tube 🕺🏻
😯😳D'you just learnt us how to boost Ol Blue??!!!😂🤣😂🤣💙
@2:23... That rock looks more like E.T.! As for the Monolith... it was placed there for people to talk about.
Thank you for saving cattle from mylar balloons which can kill them if they eat the mylar balloon
Welcome to deep thoughts with Shawn on the trail
You guys videos are great! First thing I click on when they show up on my list. Keep up the good work.
starting ol blue by a 3/8ths socket is very on brand, lmao
Mike strikes me as the kind of guy who is always hungry. It's usually the skinny ones...
HEY! Hell yeah! Hello Rory, Mike and Shawn! Thumbs UP!!
Making a hamburger as I watch this. Trail Mater and hamburger Yes!
Hi. Do you thimk the monolith is somebody doing a copy of the old sci-fi film 2001: a space oddity.. Stunning scenery though.
Thank you!!
You bush towies always running out of fuel ⛽ 😅🇦🇺
Just so you know the Hamburger first created in 1885 in Seymour, Wisconsin by hamburger Charlie squashed a meatball between two slices of bread
That is one tough trail w/ all of the loose boulders to navigate over and around. Expert driving as always by Rory. Love your guys videos and commentary, along w/ banter between all three of you. Keep up the good work by all.
12:13 😆 That was gangster, Shawn!!!
And the key to happiness comes in 3/8 drive.
Rory said the hard bar setup is not the way to go at the wrecker games. It looks like it works really well in the right situation (which Rory may have also said at the wrecker games). It would be cool to have an explanation of why you chose Old Blue on this one. Also, I would think having a bar available on Trail Mater would prove useful in certain situations.
Chevy pulling out a ford love it
Great editing and filming on this vid! Feels like a step up and I love getting more of the guys' personalities.
Another great recovery by the TRAIL MATER crew! good job!
The hamburger was invented between 1885 to 1904, so says the Google machine.
You guys are either very patient or you're very good at hiding it. 😁 But you do very good work. 🎉🎉
It is no wonder that the rocks are so ROUNDED in Hamberger hills, because they are sliders.
The monoliths was a promotional stunt for a Netflix movie….. they were all put in place by the UA-cam channel “I did a thing “, it’s all documented on the channel…….
You know that you're hungry if you see food-shapes in rocks and everything else... 😂😁😜
I almost commented in the beginning why wouldn’t you just remove the broken shock and drive the truck out instead of calling for a tow truck that takes 5hrs to get there. So it makes sense that it was the whole strut that blew up. Yeah she wasn’t drivable.
Nice to see Old Blue on a recovery.
I'm not sure of the wisdom of telling everyone how to start old blue without a key... but then again, it's basically the same for anything that old.
Hey, sounds like you have a worn cam or some bad lifters in the blue chev towtruck. Just trying to help .
dude you guys just have the right attitude, it really brightens my day and depression fades away watching you guys just living life.❤
Rory has been taking notes from Matt I see. Running out of gas! I can't imagine that big block is exactly economical, lol.
Mike's biggest concern is the quantity of snacks. Priorities! ✌🏼
Facts!
AAAAnnnndddd another Ford makes it out under Big Block Chevy power!
Only professionals take the biggest risks. Can cheese? Ritz crackers? You guys eat like you’re a garbage can. More of a risk eating that crap than doing your job.😂
Thanks Mikey for showing us stuff
Plot twist: the Ford f*cking Ranger was actually pushing old blue out
Hey can you guys send my daughters ballon back please. Thanks from the PNW lol
That was quite the ride, for that one.
Long days work.
Definitely nice to know there are people like you guys willing to do the job, and do it right!
Y'all are going to be hard to replace, when the time comes..
Appreciate all you do, so that we can be there with ya. 👍👍👍
Rory, you never cease to amaze me with your driving skills while towing on those rough trails. So elegant!
4:26 Rory finds an alien spacecraft ...
5 hours just to get to the casualty. That's crazy.
Hope you guys change that key I think everybody has one of those keys just saying. You probably know there are those people out there.
There were SO many times I clenched fearing that bar was gonna fold up...I can't even imagine how many times it could have that were edited out.
Slow and steady with immense expertise picking the 'perfect' line.
GREAT JOB Team TrailMater!
Curious question: why does the front tires twitch so much? is it a good thing or a bad thing?
Worn out tierod ends coupled with a crappy stock steering design. Working on the fixes for that.
Rory could give lessons in throttle control
I'm glad I don't have to pay that bill! 😂😪
I am having issues with your account and matts off road. For some reason i am not notified when a video is posted. Never had issues with this until recently for both you guys and matts… its odd and could cause issues with views if im not the only one
I have a serious disliking for mylar balloons. They kill too many animals on land and at see, domesticated and wild, big and small.
Damn.....Blue sounds sexxxxxxyyyyylol❤
so, you say that key left in the shop is no problem? should show this magic trick to someone we know ;-)
Man this Lockhart Basin looks like some rugged country! Makes me wonder who the original inhabitants there might have been and were there any european wagon train pioneers (immigrants) passing through. What was life like for these people? What did they think about the landscape? So much history. So little written.
Hey guys thanks for the video
The scenery out there is amazing. Does it still amaze u when you get out to spots like that and just look around?
Sounds like you need a take a trip to the desert Southwest. Start at the 4 Corners and go any direction.
Shawn's right, aliens wouldn't have stuck the monolith down with silicone, they would have used Velcro. After all aliens invented Velcro not silicone.
