As a 30 year glass artist, one piece of advice.... when making your score line, try to do as long a single score as you can. DO NOT keep going over the same scratched (scored) area over and over. This causes micro-fractures in the glass and will be the cause of breakages going outside your intended line. Now mind you, I’ve not tried this intriguing project yet so my advice is probably easier said than done. But keep it in mind and see if it helps.
Linda, thank you for your comment and advice. It is quite a challenge to make glass behave the way you want to. :) Even different bottle cracks differently. Thinner glass is so fragile and usually cracks easier but not the way it has to. Thicker glass behaves better, but it takes time to crack it. Do you have a portfolio of your art items internet? That would be interesting to see.

I will be practicing on smooth bottles first before I try on this "Lakes Gin" bottle. I'm guessing the same rules apply but I may not guarrenty a smooth cut due to the different thicknesses and should cut higher up to account for sanding?
Very beautiful work. My question is, why do you need the rotary tool at 2:45 for making the section cuts, instead of using the glass cutting method from earlier with the heating iron?
as explained in the other video, it is because this is a long curved piece to remove, and easier done when chopped into tinier blocks instead of attempting to be done in one big chunk, which would result in the fracture if forced. hope this helps! :)
