The genius of Kirby really is in the contrast. The lore and the big enemies are filled with tragedy and horror, and the past has innumerable mistakes and failures building to the point where dark entities rising to destroy, enslave or just plain conquer everything are plentiful. But despite this, the visuals are cheerful and the main character is happy, optimistic and full of hope. And despite all the doom and gloom hidden beneath the surface - the optimism and friendship always wins. It is one thing to have a happy go lucky world with a cheerful protagonist. But by making the undertones dark and disturbing, the central message of friendship and love prevailing becomes all the stronger. The lore is dark, but the world we experience is colorful and happy, because this is how Kirby sees it - how Kirby chooses to see it. This makes for an incredibly strong message for the entire series - it doesn't matter how tragic your past is; it doesn't matter how hopeless the situation seems. If you try to make friends, help them, and let them help you - you can make the world a better place.
Exactly. The audience can still acknowledge the despair inducing lore behind it but there is no need to act all edgy like many video game titles that sells you on the fact that the game is set in a brutal war with protagonists that are cold war hero soldier badass tough guy that secretly cares. Kirby's just a pink ball and even better, a friend to all.
I just realized that, even though people complain about how easy the games are, that's part of what kirby is. Kirby makes the game easier, because to kirby, nothing is difficult when you're having fun.
I don't understand that critique at all, first : it's easy and that's not what makes a good game, troll game are in the hardest possible but are they good? No, it's not when a game is harder that it is better, the strenght of the very first kirby was that it was fast and easy so you could play it over and over. second: it's not even easy, how many of these people even tried the post-game and the true arena or do the bosses without ability?
I think Kirby's lore points to a very specific interpretation of the past in his universe. It's post apocalyptic. But not just **one** apocalypse. Every advanced and powerful civilization to ever arise in this universe is long dead and gone. Every path was explored. Every mistake was made. Every miracle has occured. And all that remains are the relics of a history so long dead and gone that only a very few scholars ever bother researching it. Every proud empire is long crumbled, leaving only the wildlife and happily ignorant stone age peasants to occupy the ruins. Kirby is very likely the result of the Last Mistake. Yet another powerful ancient civilization that died, leaving nothing but monoliths and reality breaking technology and magic and magitech, with but a very few survivors. Someone knowledgable enough to know that you can call upon Void, and shape it's birth into reality by surrounding it with positive or negative emotions. Perhaps the Last Mistake ended with some sealed evil that would eventually break free. Void is, ultimately, the most powerful of the entities. It is the world eater, the only thing that can destroy anything. It is also malleable. So these survivors of the Last Mistake, they created their own Crystal Heart, and every day, they came to it and offered it love, and hope, and generosity, and kindness, and forgiveness, and *especially* happiness. And eventually out of that heart came Kirby, the natural result of taking the emptiness that is the Astral Birth and filling it with all the most important simple good things that life has to offer. So Kirby values those simple good things in life. Happiness galore, peace and joy, and people to share that with. Of course, he is also an all consuming eldritch being, so if his own power is not enough, he will happily and without a care consume someone or something else's power and wield that. And the bigger the threat, the more power he will consume to wield. This doesn't necessarily have to be literal, mind, but Kirby's greatest power has always been his ability to gather outside forces around himself and use them to their fullest potential. But because it's Kirby, he feels zero desire to retain any of that power, and always just lets it all go, because the only thing Kirby lusts after is a tasty meal to share with a friend. So when it's all said and done, and the latest can of evil has had its butt thoroughly thrashed, he lets go of every tool and power he's gathered, calls his warp star, waves goodbye to his allies, and goes back to his little round one room house for a slice of cake or maybe a tomato. Also, if Void Termina is an Astral Birth filled with hate and negativity, and Kirby is one filled with love and positivity, perhaps Dark Matter is one that was never filled with anything. A natural Astral Birth that was born empty and alone and its desire to consume and drown out every star in darkness is its natural state as the metaphysical End.
This also explains why Gooey is good, even if he is made of the same substance that Dark Matter is; surrounded by positivity, he also took the form of a friend.
I think it's supposed to be wasps, as a call-back to Triple Deluxe (which directly preceded Planet Robobot) where Dedede was shown to be pretty scared by Queen Sectonia in her introductory cutscene. It retroactively serving as foreshadowing for Morpho Knight is still a pretty cool happy accident, though.
In regards to the deep lore and drama, I feel the reason why Kirby has continued to succeed where others have failed is the fact that it maintains a balance between lighthearted fun and serious, deep, dark lore. It doesn't overwhelm you with constant drama and edge, nor does it annoy you with forced humor and randomness.
Kirby games: fun, cute, easy, relaxing, and friendly Kirby lore: OK so basically Kirby is the reincarnation of a chaos god and is the brother of zero and there were these guys called the ancients that made the clockwork stars and.. ...youre not even listening are you
Kirby is like that friend you've literally been to Hell and back with, and yet he still stays the same lovable buddy you grew up with, motivating you to get through even the darkest of times.
@@that1dude483 I was so worried when I saw that, because at the time Star Allies was the newest game in yhe series so I thought they were actually going to end it lol. Thankfully, Super Kirby Clash came pit a few months later and thus the world was at peace. Kumazaki said in an interview once that even if no one played Kirby games anymore, HAL would still be making them simply because they enjoy it. Which honestly makes me super happy.
I think the intro to Kirby's Adventure summed up Kirby's character in a few words: "First you draw a circle, then you dot the eyes. Add a big smile and presto, it's Kirby" That's essentially who Kirby is. A circle with eyes and a smile. He's so small and simple yet he overcomes so many perilous odds some can't even dream of. He also tries to help people all around him simply because he can. He does it all with an optimistic smile on his face ready for anything. Yes he's a simple circle with eyes, but he's also so much more at the same time. Just like his series and everything about it. Kirby's special, really special. He teaches so many things and does so much and the best part is he might just be unaware of it. He just wants to have a good time with some good buddies and that's pretty cute. Never change Kirby.
Here's what got me actually scared: In Planet Robobot's pause screen, it says that Kirby has *infinite* power. When you pause against Galacta Knight, it says he has *immense* power. Meta Knight got warned that freeing Galacta Knight could destroy planets as collateral. Galacta Knight is nowhere close to being as strong as Kirby and he needed to be sealed outside of time itself.
@@blackheartzerotheundergrou3225 not anymore that is however you have to remember he was once just like void termina probably much stronger he probably also had a lot more experience and training meaning that the void termina we see now is basically Kirby's infinitely younger weaker brother but then I got to thinking if Kirby is a older and stronger version of void termina then what the hell was he like back in his Glory Days I don't want to think about it
@@Floki_lucifer I think a more accurate interpretation is that while void termina is born of negative emotion, kirby is born of positive emotion. Kirby was never evil, he was created good. IE, Void is definitely nurture over nature.
@@RiahGreen not really because void is more such the neutral form wild dark matter is what happens when too much negativity is poured into it Kirby's what happens when too much positivity is poured into it so this makes me wonder before Kirby was Kirby he probably was in his neutral form much longer thus meaning he was far stronger than the newer newborn void
@@Floki_lucifer All of them began as a Void, not because they were alive yet, but rather because they were waiting to be filled with something. Kirby got filled with positive energy, Void Termina got filled with negative energy, Dark Matter perhaps got filled with negative energy too or wasn't filled at all, so instead of destroying he just assimilates stuff around him. If Kirby was in a neutral form long ago, I'd imagine he was more of in a "incubated" state rather than an awake one.. Robobot states Kirby has infinite power, you can't be even more powerful than infinite power
I've seen a lot of kid shows that use "ThE pOwEr Of FrIeNdShIp" pretty much as a deus ex machina but kirby is the only one that nails it in my eyes, "friends let you take on a GOD OF DESTRUCTION" ("look mom 3mil likes on my youtube comment :D")
Finally someone recognise it ! In my opinion, the two franchise autorise to use the power of friendship are MLP and kirby because it's justified by either the friendship is needed to awake an ancient power or because your ennemy is weak to friendship. Not to mention that Star allies is the only game that allows you to defeat the final boss by litterally throwing friendship at him. (And you can also throw your friend at him, something rarely see in anime)
@@maitremaitre9283 Not only does Kirby know how to use the power of friendship to win his battles, he also knows how to use the power of YEET!!! So yeah, Kirby deserves to be feared.
I just realized, Void Termina’s fight is a metaphor for loneliness, social anxiety, and making friends. As someone with the horrible thing (social anxiety), I can confirm that I’ve honestly started to gain more and more hatred for everyone since I keep feeling like everyone is watching me and criticizing me for every tiny flaw in my makeshift works. It’s hard shit, man. And the four emotions described- Hatred, Lust, Jealousy, and Greed- have really affected me. However, when someone just takes the extra step to see and to care, and be, a friend…? It’s confusing, but the greatest blessing of all. And it weakens that hatred, obsession, jealousy, and greed. It helps me gain that same soul, it helps me take the shape… of a friend.
"If Kirby can fight monsters of immeasurable power and evil just because he cares, so can you." "Kirby is shaped like a friend. Kirby is your friend. Kirby will always be your friend. And like him, you can take on anything." As if this video didn't already make me a fan of Kirby and helped me appreciate the character and the series as a whole, it decides to motivate me and cuddle my heart with Kirby hugs while it's at it.
With the mention of how dark and sad a lot of the boss' pause descriptions are, I'm a bit surprised Kirby's was never mentioned. "Kirby is super proud of you, and he understands that some days, things are hard but he believes in you and knows you will do great! Just keep trying. You are Kirby's hero!"
He’s fine but he needs to finally do something actually bolder then return to dreamland over and over again. Sakurai still the boldest designer, gameplay-wise

Wait a minute, after you defeat Void, not only does it have the same innocent smile that Kirby does, but Kirb is also unlocked. Kirb is what Kirby looked like with the little whisker things. I've seen this theory before, but what if unlocking Kirb was the result of Void being purified and being reborn into a second being similar to the Star Warrior that is simply just Kirby from his past.
I've heard a theory similar to this, except rather than just being past Kirby, that this is how positive reincarnations of Void age, going from Kirby with the whiskers to how Kirby looks today. Maybe Void reincarnated has simply been born anew and is beginning to follow in Kirby's footsteps before growing up to be just like him
I know this comment is two years old, but the final battle with Void in Soul Melter EX wasn't canon, but the existence of Void is. Void was never purified or reborn, Kirby has never even canonically fought Void, just Void Termina, one of its reincarnations. Kirb was just put there as a little easter egg/gift for beating Soul Melter EX, it probably isn't meant to be anything other than that.
The lore behind Void has grabbed my attention in a way unlike any other videogame info or backstory. It’s my favorite boss fight of all time, even the 5 different themes that play throughout the fight were crafted to perfection. The implications, the connections, its all so dark and intricately woven... a perfect foil to the simple and good Kirby.
Also side-note: Parallel Twin Kracko’s pause screen lore fills me with life. “Made of fallen tears and the scattered mists of his enemies” ...I mean, WHAT?!?
Void represents both beginning & end at the same time. It is both a multiverse level apocalypse & an origin story at the same time. It comes as likely being the True Final Boss for 2D Kirby & as you reach the end of it, you'll hear the beginning as you use the power of friendship to turn it into the fresh white Kirby it was meant to become. As for Kracko's Lore it remembers everything & will always appear as long as there is a sky.
@@thebatmanwhorulesoverall4659 I mean, Disney was the same in it's 2D animation years. Actually Now that I think about it they did it with Reck it ralph too with the assimilation bugs eating the antagonist making a nightmarish entity too.
To add onto the Void Termina section, the fights with Void Termina and Void Soul end with it contorting and almost looking like it was screaming, as if in pain. And yet Void doesn't do any of that when it's defeated...it smiles, it shows no sign of pain at all. It's as if we, the player, were actively purifying Void with each encounter, slowly replacing all of that negative energy with positive energy.
One thing I like that ties into Void's essence: Out of all the bosses in the entire game, he is the only one that can be defeated using nothing but Friend Hearts.
If I remember correctly Morpho Knight can be too. But that still works at its heart. The butterfly may be shedding its guise closing its heart and showing itself to be a god of death the butterfly was always still a friend to Kirby. Kirby doesn't care what it is it's still his friend.
17:16 This is where it would've been nice to mention that beating Void lets you unlock the "Kirb" skin (old-school look) for Kirby, which is further proof that Kirby is an incarnation of Void (or the other way around).
This video never fails to get me teary-eyed. Kirby is the kind of good I've always sought and tried to bring to the world around me. I'm glad I can come back here and remind myself of that when I need to.
Its also worth noting Kirby doesnt just use friendship to defeat his enemies. Every game, (or every game I played) Kirby makes friends out of his enemies. Star Allies empathizes this the most. Everyone gets a happy ending, even Hyness and the witches come out okay. Because Kirby is just nice like that. Perhaps the fact the last game is the most optimistic shows that Kirby is improving, he couldnt save Sectonia or Hartmann. But Kirby can be merciless to his enemies and still nice to them.
Kirby is both sides of friendship On one hand he's the friend who wants everyone to forget hardship for a bit and simply be happy... And on the other hand he's the kind of friend willing to tear down evil for the sake of protecting said friends. Kirby isn't evil... he's a friend
I don't think merciless is the right word to describe Kirby when he fights enemies. He does everything in his power to stop the evils from harming his home and friends. But merciless? Never. In the end he will always reach out a hand of friendship to the ones he defeated.
It explains why Kirby is analyzed as having infinite power in Planet Robobot When you're the manifestation of the empty void itself, there are no limits. Just unceasing oblivion
Kirby is very near and dear to me. The main pink puff himself, his gameplay, the characters and now the stories follow this theme of "simple on the outside, but if you look a deeper you'll find so much more." I love it so much. I also love the lore aspect. It has left my mind a bit boggled at times but it never fails to interest me. And I love the way Kirby approches this lore in the fact that he's probably the one who cares about it the least. He's just there to have fun make friends and stop the people tormenting his friend. Sure it's lead to some...mishaps of betrayl but it's also lead to him helping so many people around the galaxy. Kirby is so many things. A god of pure energy. Slayer of eldritch horrors. A being of limitless potential. Whispy Woods' worst nightmare. But at the forfront of it all, he's a friend. To you, to me. To everyone and anyone. And I will always love him for that. Keep being you Kirby. I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, shout to the boy Mr. Dooter. He's a legend.
@Sean Tong Kirby doesn't really change, that is correct but I don't think he needs to. Kirby is a static character,, this meaning that he changes more the world around him than himself. That lends to helping other characters around him grow like Bandana Dee, Magolor and Dedede especially. I think it's better that he doesn't have this huge revalation on Void cause he hasn't ever thought too deeply about things like this and I think that's part of his charm. Being a friend and doing what's right. Though I do, admit I do want to see more of Kirby being more succeptable to comic injuries. That was always fun.
@Sean Tong I'm genuinely very curious because I've never heard about them till now, but what light novels do you speak of. I don't remember hearing about them. They do sound very interesting and I'm always willing for some Kirby content.
And then after all that, Kirby just poyo's Void STRAIGHT out of the video, and technically says this: "Just win! And then eat some delicious cake afterwards with some friends if you're hungry."
The Kirby series loves its past so much that it managed to have a nostalgia level that imitated hardware limitations of inferior hardware while still on the NES. Namely, level 7-6 of Kirby's Adventure had a black and white pallette and a tileset that was a throwback to Kirby's Dream Land on the Game Boy. I think it was the first time a game did this. If not, it was one of the earliest
@Sean Tong While I do agree that Kirby should tone down the self love a few notches I do have some disagreements. Firstly, I personally believe the Dream Friends were a very soulfull inclusion that made a terribly barebones game like Star Allies a bit more lively. It's clear they wanted to make you feel like you were playing characters like Daroach or Magolor some of many characters we've never even been able to play as. I think their one big flaw is not playing the biggest role in the story despite still being given a reason or 2 for why they're helping out but in terms of nostalgia, this was some of the best we've ever seen from Kirby. Do they make Star Allies good? No, more passable. Secondly, I don't really see the problem for having a few returning boss fights. The problem I moreso have is recycling those boss fights. An example of a returning boss fight is Dedede from Star Allies or Kracko from Triple Deluxe. Sure we've fought them before, but they'll gain new elements to stand out and be different from previous attemps. It's like a Bowser situation. I don't get bored fighting him because he always has a new way of trying to take us down. An example of the opposite is Sectonia from Triple Deluxe to her Robobot clone (in fact Robobot had a few rehash problems but let's focus on her). She has exactly the same moves and does the same things with no variation whatsoever. I don't think the problem is "we're fighting the same characters" but more "the characters we're fighting again have nothing new" which is true and false in different cases and games. Thirdly, I think modern Kirby has somewhat of a legacy. It perfected the Superstar format (for better or worse) and really brought some interesting plots a lore to the table. Dark Matter, the Dimensional Mirror, Galacta Knight ect. we're expanded upon in the modern era along with interesting chraracters and backstories like Magolor, Taranza and Susie. Modern Kirby isn't perfect and has gotten stale but there are still quite afew things it can be proud of.
@Sean Tong Okay, I understand but I still have a disagreement or 2. I really don't see the diversity with older games compared to new ones. We still had regular Whispy, Kracko and Dedede fights up the wazoo. If anything, I think it's somewhat impressive they can still think of something different for them after literal decades. Now this isn't to say that no characters were unique in those games. You got Acro, Ice Dragon, Fatty Whale, Chameleo Arm ect but the modern games still have plenty of those. Like Coily Rattler, Goriath, Mr. Dooter and Pyribbit. The thing I'm trying to say here is that this has always been a thing. But I do see your issue with the Dream Friends. While I really like the creative fanservice, they are more life like clones than actual characters. Thus, I have actually come up with something HAL could've done to rectify this somewhat. Y'know how there were still a few missing Jamba heart pieces missing leading Hyness to sacrifice himself and the mages to awaken Void? What if we had different DLC "episodes" of Kirby and one of his Dream pals trying to gather the hearts to seal them away before any new disasters occur. We could show more of why the Dream Friends want to help Kirby and they could have interactive dialogue so it shows more of the actual characters. With these episodes come new locations in the galaxy to explore since Jamba hearts are scattered across it. This could lead to new levels to travers and enemies and bosses to face and take down for the hearts. I think that would've been a sweet addition to what Star Allies actually has especially since we had to wait like half a year for a chunk of the game that should've been there at launch. About the movesets though, I think they synergize pretty nicely with each other. Sure you got a few not so great apples like Adeline but for the most part they seem fine to me. You are still free to disagree though. I don't really think they put in the DFs as advertisments for older games. Nostalgia, yeah but I don't see HAL really trying to push us Kirby's Dreamland 2 for the Gameboy Colour by putting the animal buddies in as playable characters. I think it was more of HAL just bringing back other characters in a big way which I've always wanted. I always wondered why Adeline, Ribbon and Gooey were reduced to cameos for a decade for no reason and HAL brought them back finally. I'm not saying their execution was perfect, there was much room for improvement but that's just how I feel.
The feeling I felt after watching this video and slowly realizing that when you defeat VOID is indescribable. Void doesn't scream, collapse on itself or even fall apart. Void smiles, it smiles and erupts into light and something about that just hits differently.

Kirby's relationship to Dark Matter makes everything even better. He's just a sentient little black hole with the power to consume and destroy everything in his path -- and he does so in the most literal way possible.
The games are a lot of fun! I'd recommend starting with Super Star Ultra (Planet Robobot is also a great choice with the best story and relatively complex gameplay), but really you can jump in anywhere.
@@Legoluigi26 id say sa was the one with the best story, but only if you really delve into it, pr is the 2nd greater story and is simpler to understand id say which is for the better

That's a perfect line explaining Kirby as a whole. "Dark Matter, Heart Matter, Dream Matter, Doesn't Matter" Sure there is a story if you look fo it, but it is a game first than anything.
Honestly the fact that Kirby lore is incredibly deep and dark all while Kirby just doesn't care is very funny to me. I imagine everyone around him being like "that is the God of all creation. We should be afraid" only for Kirby, as innocent as he is, just replies "Poyo" and continues fighting.
Alright, that reading before Void Termina with everyone slowly joining in had no right to sound that good. How dare you make Kirby lore genuinely ominous.
@@z-arkforce6434 the longer Kirby has going on, the more it just feels like Gurren Lagunn, 😅 but then again, even before planet robobot I was making these comparisons in my mind. And after the ending of star allies the parallels have become absolutely perfect.

After finishing this video, I think your description really nails it- Kirby's world can be so complex and tragic... because Kirby is so simple and good. I mean, Star Allies pretty much confirms that Kirby is essentially made of... *good.* He's just *GOOD.* If you don't love him, either you don't know him, or are being possessed by the Dark Matter or something.
Kirby's from Dreamland. It's only natural that his enemies be stuff out of nightmares, or in the more recent games, people trapped in their own nightmares.
I didnt even get to the end cuz I started crying about the description of Void because of the talk of it maybe being reborn into a simpler, happier life
Kirby, whether under Sakurai or Shinya, has always been a game that anyone could enjoy imo. its simple enough to bring in younger and inexperienced players, looks interesting enough for newcomers to the series, has challenging aspects for more experienced players, and has the famous lore for older people to get into. not to mention, copy abilities. it’s a game of choice entirely. you can skip mostly everything in levels, and you can use whatever copy ability you want save for some specific cases. everything about Kirby allows him to fit anyone’s desires and make his experience a fun one :)
I never realized that Void Termina creates MASTER CROWNS?!?! I PLAYED THE HECK OUT OF RETURN TO DREAMLAND AND STAR ALLIES AND I NEVER NOTICED?!?! Great Video! I love Kirby!
happy anniversary to my favorite video on youtube. every time i rewatch this, i get choked up, sometimes cry outright, at just how incredible the delivery of the ending is. you did an incredible job capturing the essence of one of my favorite franchises in a way i never expected. seeing the lore of this franchise be recontextualized so professionally into the beauty of friendship and hope over truly overwhelming odds, and the clash of the games' true simplicity vs the horrors lurking beneath being represented by Kirby's character, who's always your friend no matter what. after being so invested in the lore, seeing it be used to make such a poignant and emotionally powerful point that is more effective the deeper you looked, it's genuinely an immensely rewarding experience, and masterful craft. be proud of this, you've probably unironically saved lives with this video.
Honestly I really love this Kirby is… Kirby lovable friendly gluttonous and truely hopeful. He has the powers of a god of destruction but he makes a choice to not use that power recklessly. He chooses to help other and live a good life as a good friend and those friends help him to overcome things that should be beyond even him. And for all the darkness and tragedy he faces it with a smile and a warm open heart because many of his foes are simply new friends in need. Even the purest darkness… is what Kirby is cut from the same cloth and Kirby wishes to help him despite everything.
I’ve seen tons of amazing kirby lore videos, but I gotta say I really love this one! It explains it in a way that feels new and unique, and it’s a ton of fun to watch and listen to. Not to mention you have lots of enthusiasm when you’re explaining it all. Amazing video!
The ending really touched my heart, what’s crazy is the fact that I almost started tearing up, the ending was heartwarming enough to brighten up my day
4:50 - Let's not forget that the most recent game has you fighting a cronenberg that wields galactic level power and was created because a cosmic level being was split in two, but ends up having to fuse together again to stop the bad things from happening. And this is just a day at the office for Kirby.
You forgot about dream matter. "Dreams, darkness, soul, heart. All chaos and possibility assemble within its substance. Being born as the origin, and ancestor of all." That was in the Japanese version of void' s description.
15:31 Just a small correction, all of Void Termina's themes have official names They're part of a suite called "The Star-Conquering Traveler" The name of the Void theme is: "The Star-Conquering Traveler (Final Movement: Sparkling Star)"
Seriously good job though this video needs 1 million views. Pin this when it happens k? Wow guys. I think this may be your best video yet. I loved the care and research went into this, but damn that message at the end hit me hard. I definitely always viewed Kirby as "lol Kirby, he cute and he kill." and will admit I very rarely ever went into the pause screen, especially during boss fights. And WOW did I ever sleep on Star Allies. I hope Sakurai loves where Kirby went once he had to let go of him. I just want him to be proud. To add on to this, let's not forget Kirby's place in the World of Light. He was the boy who lived, who survived against all odds, and was the one to bring all of his friends together again to conquer the ultimate evil. Whenever I'm feeling down I'll forever just think WWKD? SWIGGATY SWOOTY I SAW DOUBLE MR DOOTY!!
Unfortunately, so far Sakurai has completely ignored and neglected the games he didn't make, up to not even making tweets celebrating the anniversaries for the Kirby games he didn't make including star allies, so the chances for that being the case are slim.
@@Fannintendociccio1 It really makes my head turn. Does Sakurai have something against modern Kirby? Why does he just pull the cold shoulder to pinky's modern outings. Even in Smash, the main representation comes from Dreamland, Adventure and Super Star the three games he worked on. Not a character past adventure, not a stage past Super Star and not a remix past Squeak Squad and that's surprising to see that they went that far. It makes you wonder what Sakurai thinks of modern Kirby and why he treats it like that one weird uncle a family gatherings.
@@narxmagee727 I think its more to do with Sakurai disliking squeals that don't innovate on gameplay than hating on stories. Sakurai strikes to me as someone who plays games for the gameplay and not the story. Like when he made Kid Icarus Uprising, the plot is more like a means for the gameplay to happen rather than the other way round like most modern games. And there's nothing wrong with it. He likely has his own priorities and enjoyment while others are more interested in the story or lore. Ideally, we all want to enjoy games for both games and stories, but sometimes one amazing factor could be held back by lack luster afterthoughts. (great story/bad gameplay, great gameplay/bad story)
@@narxmagee727 Seeing other fans get representation for games from their latest adventures just makes me wish we got the same. I mean, if you showed a non-Kirby fan the major Kirby representation in Smash (characters, stages, remixes, assists), they'd be forgiven for thinking the series ended in 1996. The fact that practically every contemporary Nintendo series got a stage from a new game in Smash 4 while Kirby got Super Star AGAIN will never fail to upset me (Sakurai said it's based on Super Star Ultra, but the logo says Super Star on the stage select screen. And even if it was based on SSU, couldn't you have picked a stage from Ultra-exclusive content?).
I have no words.... this is amazing! You nailed EVERYTHING SO RIGHT!! I might have cried more than once watching this, while also having a big ol smile during the whole video. The editing, script and delivery was just... PERFECT! Thank you for this just absolutely incredible video.
I love how Kirby is this super cute and charming series and it has one of the deepest and darkest lore out there. I know people give Nintendo a "bad reputation" for making baby games but if oyu dive a bit in Kirby and even Pokémon lore (Not by Nintendo I know) it's surprisngly dark.
objectively the gameplay of Kirby games were designed for babby but they are still wonderful! kirby was made to be easily playable for children; that’s why Kirby’s Dreamland had such a simplistic plot. but the games are still always excellent and fun, even when Mario games will sometimes get obnoxious at times… Also, Kirby also isn’t technically a Nintendo game- like Pokémon, it’s a second party series, meaning it can only be published on Nintendo systems, but is made by a separate company- that being HAL Labs.
God damn this one is good. I have always loved Kirby, and I think you spelled out why he works so well. What I didn't expect was for my heartstrings to be tugged so hard. Kudos, my friends.
I like this video for a number of reasons, but my biggest has to be the ending. Instead of pulling a cop out or just going “Kirby is a god and your all nothing but food to him” you explained what he really is. Just a little boy who wants to have new friends and play around, even if it means overcoming difficult obstacles with his scarily overpowered abilities. He is your friend at the end of the day.
I think each Star Warrior is a personification of some cosmic element. Meta Knight may be the positive aspects of darkness; moody, passionate, mysterious - but not neccesarily evil. To borrow a phrase, "I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
man, this is an amazing video, well done! the implications that void might be reborn as another kirby, i wanna see void termina as a playable character one day, not as a destroyer of worlds, a being who displays infinite power, but as a kirby, a being who displays infinite potential.
Void is the essence of neutrality, it can be shaped positively (Kirby in theory) or negatively (Zero in theory). But if it's reborn netrualy, it will just be another void. In a way, Kirby was healing the negative Void/Void Termina, because if you tried, you can actually damage it with Kirby's Hearts...Or technically, alter it positively and for out the negativity. PS: And yes...There is a reason I'm saying Void and not Void Termina.
Upon rewatching this video, for some reason I had one of the most VIOLENT shivers I have ever experienced at 13:38. I have no idea why, and I’m scared.

Yay! Happiness!

Galacta Knight is nowhere close to being as strong as Kirby and he needed to be sealed outside of time itself.

The fact that we can hit it with Kirby's hearts makes that statement even more true
I've heard a theory similar to this, except rather than just being past Kirby, that this is how positive reincarnations of Void age, going from Kirby with the whiskers to how Kirby looks today.
Kirby is both sides of friendship
On one hand he's the friend who wants everyone to forget hardship for a bit and simply be happy...
It explains why Kirby is analyzed as having infinite power in Planet Robobot
When you're the manifestation of the empty void itself, there are no limits.
Not everyone
I think the reason that the dark lore works is because Kirby the character doesn't really think about it
@@sobersplash6172 Because at the end of the day, Kirby just wants to make friends... and he'll do anything to help them
The introduction of Void Termina in this video is like a final boss introducing himself.
Like they chanting the void termina "poem"(I forgot the word), was honestly so powerful, that moment is movie worth!
Dude, I got fucking *_chills_* listening to that.
Though I was also laughing at the visual effects lmao.
My eyes: THEZ EFECTZ LOK SO DUM EDITED LOL
My ears: This is terrifying.
Bro the thing is so good
And then after all that, Kirby just poyo's Void STRAIGHT out of the video, and technically says this: "Just win!
Kirby: Loving itself before it was cool.
I mean, it was kinda the 2nd ever Kirby game period, so I’m not sure how there could be an earlier game to do that lol
@@TheDuckyDino this suggests that the Kirby series created the first ever video game, and i refuse to believe anything else.

Never knew there was so much lore behind a game of a pink ball. Guess i'll give this series a chance.
The games are a lot of fun! I'd recommend starting with Super Star Ultra (Planet Robobot is also a great choice with the best story and relatively complex gameplay), but really you can jump in anywhere.

The fact that they were brave enough to have characters commit mass 'sewer slide' on screen and getting away with it is damn impressive.
Kirby's from Dreamland. It's only natural that his enemies be stuff out of nightmares, or in the more recent games, people trapped in their own nightmares.

I think Shinya is doing a fantastic job with the series
"Void is the tragedy of a Kirby without friends".
Man... That was a good line.
This whole video was like a warm hug, I loved it.
I've watched a ton of Kirby lore videos, but this one is by far the most emotional, and by extension, the best of the lot.
I never expected kirbo lore to be the lore that unfailingly makes me tear up every time, but heck here I am.
You forgot about dream matter. "Dreams, darkness, soul, heart. All chaos and possibility assemble within its substance. Being born as the origin, and ancestor of all." That was in the Japanese version of void' s description.
So Dream Matter is basically Kirby's Mew?

@@narxmagee727 The worst part is that uncle is a really cool guy
I’m not crying, you’re the one who’s crying.

Kirby design is optimized for hugs
Gameplay depth: a fun puddle
Lore depth: endless, abyssal ocean
The end made me feel the same emotions as the sad ending of a really good kids movie and it make me unnecessarily emotional
God damn this one is good. I have always loved Kirby, and I think you spelled out why he works so well. What I didn't expect was for my heartstrings to be tugged so hard. Kudos, my friends.

Am I the only one who loves how Princess Sue says "A friend"?
I love how this video started with "marx best villan fight me nerds" and ended with a motivational lesson
This also raises questions about Meta Knight’s existence, is he also a void reincarnated or is he just so happens to look like a void reincarnated?
I think each Star Warrior is a personification of some cosmic element. Meta Knight may be the positive aspects of darkness; moody, passionate, mysterious - but not neccesarily evil.
To borrow a phrase, "I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
man, this is an amazing video, well done! the implications that void might be reborn as another kirby, i wanna see void termina as a playable character one day, not as a destroyer of worlds, a being who displays infinite power, but as a kirby, a being who displays infinite potential.
I want Void Kirby as a dream friend next anniversary
Kirby finds Void crying at the end of a game and sits next to him, hugs him, and says one thing... "friend!"
This is CRIMINALLY underviewed. God that message at the end made me start sobbing. What a masterpiece of a video.
This whole video had me smiling the entire time, amazing job dissecting my boy Kirby & I wasn't ready for the great job done with the special guests
Thank you, Kirby, for being such a wonderful friend.
