- The making of a Damascus steel gyuto chef knife from start to finish. The pattern was created with crushed w's before cutting ripples in the billet. The steel was fully annealed in the kiln before heat treating and tempered after quenching. Thanks for watching!

I bought a custom Damascus blade from Lew a few years ago. I use it daily, so took it to a local knife shop in Singapore to get it sharpened. The old Japanese owner has only the best blades for high-end sushi chefs. He picked up Lew's knife and in his limited English said, 'This is very special knife!!', wanting to know more about where it was created. Heartening to see how craftsmanship crosses culture and language.
Thanks nandu for the kind words I remember making your knife fondly and it is still a favourite of mine with that western style blade shape it came together great. Agreed!
I hope whoever bought it takes care of it. It's a masterpiece.
A bold and unique pattern, remarkable S grind, polished to perfection and a cutting resonance that rings as pure as a tuning fork. Top notch, well done!
Much appreciated and thanks for watching
This is beyond art. Beautiful work.
Thank you very much!
I'm certain this is hard work... but watching this is so calming. Thank you.

Thanks for watching! More videos on the way
I have recently (past month and a half) started watching bladesmiths videos exclusively . As someone who works with metal as a career, I find the content of most smithing videos very soothing. I am so glad that I found your channel! I just knew by the thumbnail, that the end result was going to be amazing. And I was right! AWESOME awesome job. You've got my subscription!
I am currently doing research of products to purchase to start making knives myself!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your blade smithing journey

back when I worked as a sous in an open kitchen I would have loved something like this.

I would like to see you collect weapons like in the game. "Wukong Black myth" would be a good decoration for your house.
Maybe some swords will be made in the future stay tuned
Crinkle-cut Damascus, despite my love of potatoes this is still prettier. Nice work 🫡
Thanks. Just needs some seasoning!

Cheap if u do it urself. 500-3000 if someone else makes it

Now I see it!
NICEEEEE.......
joya!👍
What is that green stuff you painted on the blade before putting the knife in the heat treat oven?
Condursal z1100 anti scale
@@lewgriffinknives216 Thanks or the info! I kind of figured it was something along those lines, but I have very limited knowledge from just watching UA-cam videos like yours, Tyrell Knifeworks, and Kyle Royer. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you for replying to the question, shows YOUR metal as a person
Just found your channel.
-The quality
-The craftsmanship
-The visuals
-The video editing of the perfect parts
Wow!!!
That’s a SUB!!!
@@lewgriffinknives216 Have you tried Epson-HR? Curious as to how they compare, as I've heard Z1100 is better at preventing scale on a wider variety of steels during heat treating, but you can use HR during forging (well, in a press anyway, hammer blows tend to remove it).
great, Little advice at the end u need like product shot of the blade, like a slow swipe of the camera on the blade
Cheers maybe next time
It needed a wa handle.
Too plain
Yes, very nice craftsmanship................But this is forge welded and absolutely no way in this universe
True, Real, Woots, Damascus steel. The two aren't even remotely the same thing. But very nice work non the less.
Thanks. If it was wootz it would have been made in a crucible
👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛
🙏
It will kill!
Mainly onions
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, I could pick it up with my bear hands and not get burned.
