      I just bought the new model with a handle. Was hoping it would be better ergonomically and lighter. No and No, Without wheels and not pulling into the snow you have to push., wet dense snow is a chore The scraper wears very quickly if you pull it back instead of picking it up every time. That gets old quickly. All they had to do is put wheels on it.

    Point the dial to the left and start from the center. Once you come to the end, turn right. Repeat and watch the gap get wider from the center out.

      Yup. I do that both with my large two-stage snowblower, and my smaller single stage. I'm thinking about picking one of these up for other things.

    This video exactly matches my impression of this product. I bought this same model (Ego Power+ S1203) yesterday and attempted to use it today. About 2.5” of snow had already fallen and been compacted down a bit by dog walkers, etc. What I struggled with the most was the lack of an ergonomical handlebar at the center of my body. I could not seem to position myself behind it to get a path going. I felt like holding it by the battery while simultaneously keeping the power trigger down was really a challenge, not to mention I felt like I was smothering the battery’s venting. The outcome is that I felt bent over at an uncomfortable angle the entire time. For me the battery end was notably heavy after being out there about 20 minutes. I think, as a tool, it may be useful for my small backyard patio where I normally shovel manually. However, the sidewalks and driveway are just too much physical effort - and that disappoints me given its pricepoint. I considered wrapping a velcro strap around the trigger; one that I could slide across the trigger to hold it down during long passes. What did work well was its throwing capability on flat surfaces where there weren’t too many compressed chunks of snow. However, it does catch on raised bumps easily - frustrating.

      Thanks for watching! Sounds like you had the same experience as myself. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that experienced struggle with this product. My hope is that EGO sees this video and comments from others and makes some improvements on this product.

  • @rileyhomesinc.5087
    @rileyhomesinc.5087 23 дні тому +1

    This is the most accurate review of the snow shovel I have seen.
    It’s ironic because after reading all of the other reviews and watching the other videos, I was ready to buy one. I went to the local Ace Hardware (great company) and they allowed me to use one before I bought it, and I am so glad they did.
    At first, I was trying to adjust the handle you hold, like a vacuum cleaner allows you to do, with no luck obviously. That was my first concern.
    The second was I discovered you had to push the snow shovel with a skid plate on the ground which was very difficult. My first thought was this needs wheels, which is exactly what the gentleman in this video also mentioned.
    This is a perfect example of taking something 80%. With a few tweaks, this could be a viable option, but I don’t feel currently it is an option for me.
    Great video!

    I used professional grade landscaping cloth used for blocking weeds, cut it to the length of my stairs and walk then secured it with a few bricks. After it was done snowing, I pulled horizontally so the snow would go in the grass. Worked very well.

    I have this one. It seems to work reasonably well. EGO recently introduced a new powered shovel that is an integrated unit - it is not a multi-head attachment. It puts the motor down in the tool head, the handle is more comfortable and you only carry the weight of the battery instead of battery, motor and driveshaft. It is also a lot more quiet than the multi-head.

    • @TinkerForward
      @TinkerForward  Місяць тому +2

      Thanks for watching, I believe the newer model you are referring to is the SNS1200 EGO dedicated Snow Shovel.
      I get that the motor and driveshaft are down at the bottom but to me one of the biggest frustrations was shifting the snow direction dial which is still located near the ground on the newer model making it very inconvenient to bend over to keep switching.
      It also weighs in at 10.41kg or 22.95lbs, and I get that the weight is distributed differently but with no self-propulsion on the shovel I can't imagine it being much easier push then the SSA1200 EGO Snow Shovel Attachment I review in this video. Especially in slippery conditions or with more than an inch or two of snow, I just don't think the shovel is the best design when pushing up against snow.
      The unit I reviewed weighed in at 22lbs which is about the same weight as the new one with the redistributed weight.

    Although you don't like the effort to push, for those of us still using a snow shovel, I'll take pushing over shoveling and throwing on a driveway any day of the week. However, the wet snow performance is very disappointing. I think the 6 inch rating is for dry powder. EGO updated the shovel and put the motor in the head. You're using the original version. Wonder what the performance difference would be?

    In Alberta, Canada, I have colder, drier snow. Using the same machine with a recent 3 inch snowfall, I can propel the unit with one hand, arm extended straight down beside me, and just walk. It will indeed throw the snow 20 feet or so. It is heavy, so you have to think of your shovel pattern. Walking down a long sidewalk, then picking it up and walking to the beginning for a second pass can be tiring. Better to just change direction. I also tried the brush attachment, which is very aggressive and requires bending over and two hands. I understand there is a "training wheel" attachment for the broom, which might help things along.
    Battery life is impressive. A 30-foot, 2-car driveway and almost 200 feet of sidewalk can be cleared for perhaps 1/4 battery charge.
    It works, it's heavy, but man, it beats an old snow shovel by a mile, er, kilometer.

    Did you notice some degradation of the round plastic "wheels" that are in contact with the asphalt after your test?
    I wonder how long they will last since they rub constantly on the ground.
    Thanks for the nice review!

    • @TinkerForward
      @TinkerForward  28 днів тому +1

      I did look at the round bottoms on each end and although they were getting scratched up from the use it didn't seem too bad. I do think they would wear down over time with heavy use.

    4:14 New this year is a dedicated snow shovel for those who prefer one over this older style of detachable. The new dedicated snow shovel is lighter than the detachable snow shovel. The handle is also more ergonomic for snow plowing.

      I think you are referring to the EGO SNS1200 EGO Snow Shovel that comes as one unit, not able to work with the multi-head system.
      amzn.to/4fEGsLr
      On Amazon it states the weight is
      10.41kg or 22.95lbs
      The EGO SSA1200 EGO Snow Shovel attachment for the multi-tool system is what I feature in my review video and it weighs in at 22lbs with the battery which is about the same weight, if not heavier.
      For the dedicated EGO snow shovel they have moved the trigger higher and put it at the end of the handle.
