    Chris’s voice was the magic ingredient which made Yes sound like Yes. His vocal range was impressive. And of course his bass playing was incomparable.

    Chris and Jon had such an amazing harmony together. That is one of the favorite parts for me when listening to Yes.

    His singing is great and really combines well with Jon’s vocals.
    Amazing he could recall those crazy lyrics AND play the bass!

    I could listen to the entire Yes catalog with just Chris’s isolated vocals.

    A great musician, one of the greats of bass and the perfect compliment to Jon's singing. What happened to wonders we once knew so well?

    Having listened to and played this a million times it's amazing to hear Chris part isolated. I didn't think the lines went quite where they went. Awesome.

    His harmonizing MADE it work...... Besides his insanely dominating bass techniques.... It's no wonder he is ALWAYS in the top 10 best in the world lists, and ALWAYS in the top 5 in Rock/Metal....... And don't any of you ignore the irrefutable black bass players who are at the very least a fcking mazing musicians...

    As much as I admire and love Chris Squire's singing and bass playing, that three necked monstrosity looks like it belongs in a Spinal Tap movie. Has to weigh a ton and used very little.

      The Wal Triple Neck was used only for Awaken from GFTO. Chris noticed that the original bass started to become unplayable and the neck started bending, so he had a Japanese company called Kids make a copy for him. Chris has said in many interviews that the bass weighed a ton.

    Eddie Lee, thanks for posting this- always interesting to hear these isolated tracks. Do you know how many vocal tracks there are on this song? In addition to Chris and Steve, it sounds like Jon may be doubling himself in some places. . . is that correct?

      Oh G-D... that was a catastrophe. Steve is usually a good harmony singer, but his lead vocal there was atrocious. I am sure that it would have sounded better had Bill sung instead -- and Bill rarely sings!
      Who was the guest bass guitarist? He was a good musician, but he made an obvious mistake.

    Singing this part for a man is just cruel, i mean the amout of high notes that he had to reach trough his carrer is insane, and somehow they seemed to be even higher than Jon's. Chris must have had some strong set of lungs to keep doing this everytime. As much as i love his voice this part wasn't good tbh, at least when it comes to the isolation aspect of it all, i can hear how much he was struggling and that makes me sad. This song and album doesn't really pay justice to the true potentiality of his vocal range, just listen to his solo album to get an accurate idea of that.

    • @hpatss4966
      @hpatss4966 2 місяці тому +3

      Idk what you’re on about. Go listen to the track it fits perfectly.
      Stop whining, Chris would’ve written this part and he also wrote the harmony in wonderous stories which is FAR higher than this one.
      He made the part.

    • @Trobtwillis
      @Trobtwillis 2 місяці тому +1

      It's a line which sounds better in harmonic context with Jon's part.

      @@hpatss4966 i've actually listened to that song and the TFTTO album many times, if you read my comment a little more carefully you would understand that i'm actually congratultaing chris for keeping up with such high notes for the entirety of his musical career, and I know that he could have gotten even higher than that, such as in wonderous stories, wich you mentioned, or heck even in the song ritual as well. This is coming from me, who i'm a genuine fan of him and his music, but just because i like someone a lot, doesn't imply the fact that the person in question needs to be impecable all the time, and this time, listening to his isolated vocals, i (personally) didn't think he did a great job, and I have certainly heard way better from him, such as what he did in fish out of water. Still, that doesn't deny his amazing abilities as a musician, i'm ranting because I know for a fact that singing such high notes for so long can overtime damage your vocal chords permanently, and that certainly happened with him, due to his natural low and warm speaking voice being so drastically diffrent from his singing choirist voice, that's a biological fact, and that's certainly not on chris to blame, even tho your reply wants me to belive that i shouldn't complaind because he intentionally did that part, wich means absolutely nothing.

    This sounds pretty bad, and I'm a fan, but fortunately it works in the final mix.
