I like Louis Cole. I like Cole's jazz funk stuff but I'm not really into his classical stuff. Zappa I have nothing but respect for but I prefer his instrumental and classical/20th century music, but a lot of his zany stuff, though impressive is somewhat grating. I enjoy listening to Louis Cole. Zappa is not always listenable but always excellent.
Just discovered Louis Cole last year, and have thoroughly enjoyed catching up on his music - some fantastic pieces. Never got into Frank Zappa, but in terms of range of genre, musicianship and musical abilities, Louis seems to be in a similar 'bracket' to Jacob Collier, and though I appreciate his brilliance, Jacob kind of leaves me cold.
To me LC tunes sounds fun and exciting for a little while but when listening for longer i get depressed 😅. I think there's def a place for that music but it is what it is. I actually don't feel like there's much of a comparison to FZ at all musically or socially, except for some little things you mentioned.
From the first day I saw a Louis Cole video, I read that FZ comparison in the comments, and I see elements of why these two are compared, I place them in the category of rare geniuses, but personally, I would compare Louis Cole more to another genius, Prince, as both are complete masters of many various instruments. Not to mention, obviously, Stevie Wonder. Quite a nice group of Geniuses we have here, and having your name attached to such artists, well, that says you've done good !
I am fan of both (and Louis' pal Genevieve Artadi of course) but i doubt that Louis' orchestral writing comes even close to that of FZ. Louis Cole is not only great, it's unbelievable how great he is, but FZ still remains far ahead - just my $0.50. 🙂
And Clown Core, we can't forget Clown Core.
To be a fan of Frank Zappa and Louis Cole, yes, they are similar, I had not related them to each other, until watching your video, thank you

I agree…I feel exactly the same about collier too…I haven’t figured out exactly why he turns me off, when musically he’s so talented.
Abyss from knower is so good
