- Have you ever wondered if you could put soy sauce into a chocolate brownie recipe? Let's find out today by using soy sauce in this brownie recipe.
Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2/3 cup of cocao powder
1 cup flour
1.5 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
Splash of vanilla extract
4 eggs
4 tablespoon of soy sauce - Навчання та стиль
This has a lot of the same vibes as that “How much sawdust can you add to rice crispy treats before people notice?” School science fair project.
I love it.
@Lind Morn Next time you are in a grocery store, look for Sara Lee “Delightful 45” bread. It is a ‘lower calorie’ bread, with 45 calories per slice vs the usual 60-70 bread has.
Then read the ingredients. Around 8 ingredients in is “Cellulose Fiber”. Which is fancy speak for ‘wood’.
They never stopped putting sawdust in the bread, they just figured out how to market it as healthy.
@@Vikingwerk This is just wrong lmao
Kind of expected that it’s not destroying the flavor, as soy sauce just adds a salty umami aspect to the entire profile. Brownie is already quite intense, fatty and chocolaty, which is hard to overpower.
In fact, in many Japanese recipes you’ll find soy sauce even in things like sweet stuffed fluffy pancakes (dorayaki). My grandma used to say: everything that is sweet needs a pinch of salt. Same goes for salty things, which should have a pinch of sugar.
mitarashi dango has soy sauce as the main flavoring for its glaze, and it's super tasty!
Garlic added to smoothies give it a nice kick but only recommended to people without partners or roomates
I imagine you could get a similar kick with ginger if you don't want to scare anyone off
Like, fruit smoothies? Like.. Berries? Tropical, pineapple, mango? I love garlic but I can’t wrap my head around this
surprised to see you here
I always add a nice chunk of fresh ginger in my smoothie. It's part of a spice blend i add to have a chai flavor
Heya mate
Soy sauce brownie initially sounded crazy then I remembered that chefsteps did something similar and put miso in their brownies. Love videos that blur the line between savory and sweet foods, good job.
I can imagine that using sugar beet syrup instead of crystal sugar and soy sauce would give it a nice malty flavor.
make a soy sauce reduction you'll be able to add a lot more without throwing off the fat ratio
If you want an idea: I made caramelized onion cookies back in the day when a friend doing farmer studies gave me two pinball machines worth of onions. I liked them.
I want to see this
Here in my city we have this kind of signature hot beverage called STMJ. It's the abbreviation of Susu Telur Madu Jahe, or basically Milk Egg Honey Ginger. We mix it together, including the raw egg. Maybe it's similiar with eggnog but without alcohol. So it's very warm, creamy, frothy, and sweet.
And so , a younger me back then had this stupid idea. I was going to make an "improved" strawberry smoothie. I wanted to make it creamier. And i remembered STMJ. And guess what .. i added a whole raw egg in my blender and mix it together with the other stuffs. It turned out soo creamy , i'm not joking. But .. i don't think it's healthier too. Lol.
Using powdered sugar will help get a crispier, shiny crust! I'd seen people making stuff like Miso caramel and stuff. Maybe a Miso brownie would yield more interesting results due to the fact that it's fermented.
Check out Adam Ragusea's video on brownies. He goes into the science behind getting the crust. If I'm remembering correctly it's only a matter of hydrating the sugar. You can leave the sugar longer to hydrate or cheat it by using icing sugar instead of normal table sugar.
What about condensed milk?
@@revimfadli4666 I'm not sure. The crust is a case of sugar. It essentially creates a sugar glass like structure on the surface of the brownie. I'm not sure condensed milk has enough sugar in it for that.
@@dodaexploda isn't it mostly sugar with some milk?
@@revimfadli4666 you mean brownies in general? Or condensed milk? Sweented condensed milk has sugar added and it's water is partially evaporated. I add condensed milk to my brownie recipe but not much. I'm specifically talking about the skin you get on brownies that's caused by the sugar. Here is the video if you want the explanation and the experiments which show the process: ua-cam.com/video/qpF5B_jHZrw/v-deo.html
@@dodaexploda thanks, I meant sweetened condensed milk
Love these videos - think it’d be a good addition to get a close up of a brownie slice or whatever it is you make
Next time, use oyster sauce!
Maybe condense the soy sauce before adding it?
I mean the chefsteps miso browines led me down a strange path, and they always were great.
Been making soy sauce toffees for years. Absolutely delicious
Asking the big questions
i made quite a few sweet stuff like cakes and cookies with miso before, that should be quite similar
miso and chocolate (and walnuts) are a great combo
Hi, after watching your videos I wonder if Pickles instead of Apples in a pie would work out.. Call it Pickle pie! (or does that already excist?). Anyway hope you can do something with it. Greetings from the Netherlands 🥕🙌🏻
If you want a win, try a brownie with a mexican black mole, if you are looking for gross try putting chinese fermented black beans in your brownies, the whole ones not the smooth sauce.Keep up the good work!
do honey glazed donuts but the glaze has fish sauce
Spicy "Buckeyes" (Peanut Butter and Chocolate balls) YOU CAN DO IT!
Can you make roasted squash ice cream?
Did you use light soy sauce? Maybe try dark soy sauce
YES
Oatmeal cookies with cheese are nice.
Maybe use only Thai dark soy sauce instead of sugar. It already tastes like it belongs in sweets anyway.
Do raspberries ruin pizza sauce?
the power of soy sauce. 😮
i am now wonderering how would the brownie taste like if the ingredient used was a dark japanese soy sauce used for ramen making. 😅 would it make a stronger tasting soy sauce brownie?
What about Wasabi cupcakes?
You should start with a vegan brownie recipe. That way you get rid of the water/ liquid from the eggs.
Thinking about soy sauce, maybe try making the soy sauce into a solid? Like make salt crystals from the soy sauce or just thicken the soy sauce.
You wanted soysauce flavored brownies more than seeing if you can add soysauce to brownies.
tomato and peach cobbler
Havent watched the video but it's gotta be good, the umami notes and sodium from the soy sauce would go great with the sweetness of chocolate and sugar
💛💙
Caramelized onion ice cream!
brownie with liquid smoke?
Habenaro Smoothie
I mean, this IS the Flavor Lab.
Comment No2. Asking to try Wasabi Ice cream
What does dehydrated durian taste like?
pretty airy tbh kinda like a weird fruity space ice cream
@@RalseiGaming Where do you get dehydrated durian?
cocoa powder kraft dinner
Chicken frosting cake
I'd compare it to a recipe without soy sauce at all, to see if it makes a noticeable difference
apple pie with mayonnaise and raisins
Make a chocolate cake that has mashed sweet potatoes and cognac.
Great video ! Next do spring rolls stuffed with human shit. I'm dying to know how it tastes like !!
Use miso paste instead. More soy flavor, less water.
A lot of people hate pineapple on pizza so make pizza on pineapple, maybe make a pineapple based or flavored dough
Edit: i don't even know if it's possible but it would be fun to try
Tuna cheesecake
Brownies but instead of chocolate powder put cheese powder in it
banana on pizza?
One of the worst crimes I've ever tasted was a miso caramel pancake
I cant live without soy sauce I’d go mad
Dude, we use soy sauce and sugar all the time, one of my favorite breakfast foods is scrambled eggs, instead is salt I add sugar and the eat it with soy sauce
You used way too much soy sauce, it's a flavor enhancer, not a flavor to be pushed to the front. And that's SO MUCH SALT.
But have you heard of beans in brownies?
Clearly, the next experiment is adding some form of chocolate to soy sauce.
reduce the soy sauce down to a syrup next time
Soy sauce is literally magic. It makes *everything* better. Stirfry, pizza, brownies, sex. The list goes on and on.
🧐
@@FlavorLab Don't play all coy with me, Mr Lab (if that IS your name!)! I've seen the food processor and the flour and the cheese! I know you eat pizza.
I wonder if you should just replace the oil with soy sauce instead of adding more liquid to it...
I don't know for myself.......yet, but using olive oil instead of "vegetable" oil (in brownies anyway).......blech.....no......don't......just trust me.......yuck.
Make ketchup but amp up the sugar. Make a tomato molasses.
God i hate ketchup
I don’t understand what has happened to this channel. Someone please help.
It could make them the best brownies on the planet and I'd still refuse to put that shit anywhere remotely near my baking.
