This is by far the best stop motion tutorial I've seen in a long time. I absolutely love that you offer alternatives to CGI. Can't wait to try out this technique.
I used to use these effects too in my lego animations. I didn't have lights though, but that's a good idea! Perhaps you saw my old ice planet one. I might upload more of those, I have about 5 mins worth on my hard drive.
This was explained fantastically, and was really quite inspiring and helpful. I'm gonna have to try this. Thank you very much for providing this tutorial!
Ian Marron you can use a transred flick and fire missile like show here. They come in the 2015 millennium falcon and a lot of other sets. Look for a really cheap set that has them if you need em
I am going to say I agree with the practical blaster is looking cooler and better but the editing software has preset blaster effects and makes it a lot more quicker and I can get it done in about 20 minutes I tried practical blasters blew a couple shots in two hours and it looked really good but it took too long 😢😢
Wow this is a really good trick I think practical blaster effects look much better than digital, although I have a question: how did you make that door?
Right so, all the ones i have seen so far have told me to use photoshop in the post edit of my stop motion... but i just find it tedious and extra long in time taking to edit every shot before putting them in... especially considering how im trying to do 30 shots per second... (minimum) it just doesnt work when you have to do that... i like the lighting that the post edits and effects add, but you seem to be getting a much better and cleaner look to your blasts and bolts just by using a torch and doing it as you go along rather than adding it in post... I will definitely be using this tactic in my up coming movie... (I am a super beginner so nowhere near as good as this...)
Great to hear! I plan to try laser pointers as a light source too, more precise coverage. I filmed this at 15fps, which is a fine frame rate to work at. For beginners i recommend 10 or 12 to practice with. 30 is quite a frame rate to start at. It's not always about the frame rate when it comes to brick films. I recommend you check out this vid if you haven't seen it: ua-cam.com/video/m9T98qkW7Js/v-deo.html
aha... you are so right... i ended up doing 12 fps... 30 wasnt working for me and looked way worse than it needed to be... i am still a major beginner at this and i am trying to improve... im doing about 10 scenes of about 2 minutes long and putting them together into a "movie"/ episode and it is obvious from one scene to the next that each one i am getting better and learning from the previous scene...

yeh, go ahead, i like to see you upload more
+TheGeneral Moe when is the next army men short?
putting the transparent pieces on a flash light is a good idea. I might try that.
I love this technique. Its similar in style to how lasers were portrayed in The Lego Movie. Keep it coming!
Dude I love physical alternatives. Just makes it feel, right
Thanks for the tips! This will really aid me in my stop motions!
This is very useful - I have done a few star wars stop motions now and I wanted to see how firing the blasters was done.
Very very helpful and straight to the point. Thanks.

This is genius. Except the only part I have is the lightsaber part. ;-;
TheBestPortal
Only part I DON'T have.

I dont have a cone or clay ;-;
Your better off doing saber movie fix for that because it’s easier for light sabers then blasters, this blaster idea is amazing
I can’t do lightsaber sound effect
Love this tutorial it is great can’t wait to try it out next
This is awesome! I like the practical effects better than digital
You did a great job with that. Real effects rules! haha
You helped me get into lego star wars stopmotion. Thanks!
Amazing! This is SOOOOO helpful, I’m gonna use it in my next vid,
MINDBLOWN

Wow this is a really good trick I think practical blaster effects look much better than digital, although I have a question: how did you make that door?
Was! Thanks for the great video!
Do you just hold the light with your hand? Or how do you hold the light above your set?
I didn't understand how to show the impact of when the blaster bolt hits the figure. Bow do you get it to do that?
The springloaded shooters do make good blaster bolts
I use this technic too, but you are a pro x)
vary nice work
I love how you use orange bricks.
Hey, what were the best speed for the short/clip?
Another helpful tip is to use stuffing as a explosion or smoke
I used it and it helps allot
fantastic
Thanks for the tutorial I’m working on a lego animation myself
nice work dude :D
This so useful!!!
Hey General do u think u will do another army men movie again or will it b just the short vids?
Wow nice
This is dope
What are the orange plates connected to?
I will use this in my stop motion
I also tried this tutorial and it was 👍
I do this, but i shine a laser pointer in the blaster bolts as well.
I did. And i also subbed! Can u pls check out my channel
What Software do you use to stitch together pictures?
very useful.
I’m gonna use this for my lego ww2 stopmotion
What fps do you use so I know when I make my next video.
10-12 is a good rule of thumb to keep it smooth enough. Much less will make it choppy and defeat the purpose of stop motion.
that is cool
This looks great! How could I get the sounds of laser pistols?
Look them up
Wich stop motion app do you use?
I got the inspired by this technique for my animations! I did this for most of my ww2 films. But what camera do you use?
How did you get the blaster sound effects
How much frames per second do you do
I need sounds but don't have any way to get star wars sound, I also use capcut if that makes any difference also I only have my tablet
Where’d you get your sound effects from? I noticed there are several methods to get them, but I don’t know what the safest method is :(
Just screen rec
'thank you this helped
What app is this
What appp is this tell me
Are the clips you use from videos you have uploaded?
No, they where made for the video. Most of them.
how do you make the lego gies fall?
Where do you get your figures
Can you make a video like that but with with first order stromtroopers
What app do u use
How many fps do you use?
Thank you so much
Thanks!!

I just can’t get down that movement when they shoot and the blaster goes up
Sweet can you do a tutorial of lighting wall?
I just shone a lamp behind a wall build with transparent bricks. Nothing too difficult.
Make a tutorial on how you made your imperial hallway please!
What fps do you use does anyone know?
How do we do this from the side
It is the same from all perspectives. The side should be easier as the subject being filmed is not at an angle.
The General Moe he means hold it
The second clip doesn’t add up the canon shows red laser but it shoots green
What are the Lego cones called
Thanks!
Whenever I try to tape the red bricks to my flashlight it feels like they’re going to fall off and the light doesn’t turn red.
Make sure they are transparent
@@withmuckguy3362 I use transparent red pieces but it doesn't work.
Thank you
Thank you i hope my Videos will get better wiht that thank you
What frames per second do you use?#like the video
