Thanks for all the thought you put into your filmmaking. It was such a relief when you started using mics that muffle the wind. Whoever bought your drone, I hope they know they have a little piece of UA-cam filmmaking history.
It still amaze me you set up the tripod and camera to get a crossing by shot and then have to go back and get your gear. Much respect to get that 5-10 sec. clip.
I'm half way through the "unicycling around the world" playlist. It is very noticeable how things improved through time. Especially comparing the early Europe videos to the latest ones from the UK. And yes, audio is often overlooked for more pixels, but it is the base layer of all video and make a whole lot of difference in the feel of the video. I'm not very experienced with filming myself and that pointer there about 1/50 for exposure and the ND filter was really mind blowing for me. Well done Ed. Thanks for this one.
Lad, you are a national treasure. First, I am so happy that you and Ashola found each other. It seems to work rather well. Thanks for the usual concise and learned explanation of what you are doing. Yes, I would love to see how you edit video and audio. And finally, I wish you two a lifetime of joy together.
Thanks for the walk-through Ed. I have a friend who is a professional filmmaker and he always tells me it's how you use your gear to tell a story more than the limits of the gear you have. It's clear you've learned a lot about the technical aspects of production over the years. I quite enjoy your including all the mishaps and abuse your recording gear has endured. It underscores for me that your storytelling is why we're all still watching.
Actually, that could be a great video (if you have enough material): all the indignities your photo, video, and audio gear have suffered over the years. :D
Man I love videos like this. It's neat to see what people find works for them when making content. So many products out that help with this but finding what works and any issues is really interesting. That bungie on the go Prod is a genius idea
That was a wonderful insight into the way you produce these videos. I am always very interested in the filmmaking aspects.. You really have to appreciate how much experience and knowledge you have accumulated over the time and kilometres.. your skill to shoot compelling videos from a bike/uni is a discipline on its own - on top of the "conventional" filming.. It is so nice to see how not only your knowledge and experience but also equipment developed and improved, especially compared to the other time when you showed all the stuff in that garage.. I wish you all the best on your (filmmaking) journey (and I am looking forward to the software and editing side of things ;)
What a great and entertaining video. I'm 26 now and haven't done any longer tours, but I plan on doing my first one this summer and this helps me a ton to find out what I need
Remember in season 3 of Sherlock John grows a moustache. I feel the same way about your moustache that Sherlock does about John’s. Absolute freaking love you and your videomaking
Just got a mini 2, too, Ed! After the Sparky flew away on a very windy day in Turkey. It really is an amazing upgrade and I've loved fiming bits around Cornwall this month. Less stress when it goes hundreds of metres out to sea or up a river! Fantastic video, can't wait for Georgia stuff! Heard amazing things!
I would love to see an editing video. Being new to making adventure video's for UA-cam, always nice to see what other people are using. Budget has me limited with what I can use, but maybe learning a new trick or two for the software I have is always nice :). Was really nice to see the cameras that you are using, not sure If I will ever get "big enough" to justify a good camera with lenses, but it gave me an idea of what to shoot for.
Ed, your comment about using a phone in a pinch got me thinking, You and Aishola could do a challenge on one of your off days - you both have to make a video of your own (you could both pick a seperate topic and keep it secret), but film it all on your phones and let your patron / youtube users vote on which one was best haha
Nice one Ed! Love to see the kit people are using! How are you doing the long distance tracking shots with that drone, didnt think the mini 2 had tracking?
He uses one hand to control it (which is not ideal in terms of safety). - he did mention it in his USA unicycle tour when he first got his previous drone DJI Spark.
Nice one Ed 👌🏽 Great to see and yip another video on the editing of your work would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽 Keep up the good stuff both and once again, Thank You for doing what you do ....
bro u are a super underrated youtuber I wish u had more subs on moms I be watching your vids from years ago and they only got like 60K views even though they are so good keep it up dont ever quit
Hi Ed. Coax Seal tape (red & white box) is fantastic for moulding around the gopro sockets when you've removed the door. I've used it lots over the years on motorbikes in some extreme rain etc with no issues.
I would never imagined that you would settle (even temporarily) in Georgia, it is a beautiful country, and having watched all your videos can't wait till you start putting them online :) and since I got so much enjoyment from your adventures, i sure own you and Aishola an outing in Tbilisi, so if you even fancy it while in Tbilisi just let me know :)
hey Ed! i discovered your channel while looking for tandem-bike informations before buying a tandem for me and my girlfriend and start doing some trips together. I really enjoyed the South West England trip and I'm looking forward to watch di armenian one! Mattia
Heck yes on the Editing side! I've been in Lightworks hell for years and would love to know what course you've taken and what you've learned on that front. Thanks for the bit about the ND Filter for the drone, did not know of that! I've always been really impressed with your cinematography, you've always smashed it out of the park, even when things were going sideways and you were hiking down a hill to find your lenscaps.
HI Ed! Love the video ive been waiting for a video like this from you for awhile. Im planing a across Canada Bike Trip right now and making a map for each province in "My Map" and there a lot of information I could cram in. Got me wounding if you used digital maps, paper maps and how much research did you do find the best route ? Love the vids and you and Aishola are definitely inspiring to watch! :)
Very interesting stuff, thanks for talking through you gear. I started filming this year with an Osmo Action, would be great to see some of your editing tools & process as I have little clue about it! Looking forward to your Georgia series Ed, all the best!
Great video! It would be great to see how you carry all that equipment on a bicycle/unicycle. Despite being smaller than many filmmakers kit, it's still very bulky in the world of bike travel. Presumably there are sacrifices to be made and perhaps a few luxuries have to stay at home in order to bring all that gear. There's also the consideration that all that gear needs to be protected from the knocks and bumps of the road as well as the vibrations that seem to abrade everything and work every bolt loose. Would love to see how you tackle that stuff! Cheers
Good point. I carry my (only) camera on my body when riding; however the bag is not waterproof, so when it rains enough it goes in the pannier and I feel bad. There a little room inside the camera bag and I have on occasion shimmed a plastic bag inbetween, but do you think I'll test that!? Certainly not on purpose.
Can you touch on the batteries - number and usage, memory cards etc - it would be great to see how you edit too... I think Seymour Butts is overtaking Elijah as the urban legend... lol
I use a much lighter setup than you for Unipacking, but really interesting specially the self-made mic on the go pro. I'm also thinking about switching to the Mini 2 cause nowadays I have the Mini 1. Great video Ed 👍🏻☺️
That was extremely helpful. I just purchased a new GoPro 10 & haven’t tried it out yet. I’ve been concerned about the audio capture while riding. I also have a Nikon D3200 which is much like your LUMIX without the nifty foldout screen. I am waiting for a new Rode microphone to arrive. I’m hoping to be set for a US coast to coast ride that I’m doing in 2 segments. Yes on your editing techniques, please 🙏. 👍☮️🌞🌟🏔🚵🏼♂️🚵🏼♀️🔥🏕️🔦
Good vid. What 4K cameras are best to shoot from the passenger side of a car (while moving) to get footage of architecture, street scenes, street performers etc?
Cherish your Hero 5 Session! Because this awesome form factor sadly is not made anymore and it could be gone any moment. I had and loved a Hero 5 Session, and one day after 3 years, it just wouldn't turn on anymore and never did again. Took it apart and had to see, how incredibly squished togehter the electronics are in there. And those cameras really have temperature issues. The processor gets very hot, which you can feel on the metallic lens frame, which I am sure is what killed my camera. Chips can only run so hot before they eventually die. I think your advantage with the use of your 5 camera is, that you are usually in motion and it gets plenty of cooling wind. I don't know, how much it really cools down the processor, but when you can feel much of it's heat on the outside, the outside will certainly send some cooling to the inside. Still, you should inform yourself about a potential replacement. Though your usage isn't so specific, that you couldn't use any other Gopro on your chest.
Thanks Ed! How do you find out local laws on drone use? Lots of countries becoming twitchy about danger to aircraft or *shock* spying on critical installations!
Would love to see a video about editing and storage for all the footage as well. Also, do you keep the raw footage from all your trips or do you delete it after while?
Hi Ed, great video. I own a dji mavic mini 2 aswell, and I'm pretty sure that you are able to get rid of the sharpening. if you just use the footage from the sd card and not the version of the footage from the app, it should not be sharpened. I may be wrong in this, but I hope maybe I was of some help.
Thank you Aalam for the advice. Aha, you're talking about the live signal capture on the phone. No, unfortunately DJI adds their own video adjustments onto the Mini's recorded footage. Sharpening, noise reduction, saturation, that kind of thing. It can't be adjusted, but it really is a small nit pick. The footage still looks great, just a little be artificially over processed for my taste.
Imagine having a drone that can fly ahead of you to help you setup a tripod camera so you can get a fly by shot, once you ride past the camera, you can order it to fly back to you. Saves you having to go back and forth
Hey Ed, Great video! loved the thumbnail on it. I've got 2 questions though, you mentioned how you shoot in 25fps, what made you choose 25 over say 30 or even 60fps? and also how is the selfie stick attached to the bike? I have been playing around with all kinds of attachments but I just can't seem to figure out how you got such a great angle on it without it wobbling off all the time.
25 is the standard in the UK which was one factor, but mainly I just prefer how the footage looks compared to 30p. There’s benefits too to having a lower frame rate in terms of low light performance. With 60fps you’re limited to the lowest shutterspeed being 1/60. Whereas with 25p 1/50 is ideal, but in a pinch you can lower it to 1/25 to gather that little bit more light.
Thanks for all the thought you put into your filmmaking. It was such a relief when you started using mics that muffle the wind. Whoever bought your drone, I hope they know they have a little piece of UA-cam filmmaking history.
Those example footages are incredible Ed, your filmmaking skills are way higher than you give yourself credit for.
False modesty my friend
It still amaze me you set up the tripod and camera to get a crossing by shot and then have to go back and get your gear. Much respect to get that 5-10 sec. clip.
Especially when you are bombing a hill. That’s a long, steep walk to get your gear back.
Can't wait for the next series! Hope you both are doing well :)

Thanks, Ed - I’m heading out and making a lot more stuff on the road. Great to see how you do it.

When I first found one of your videos only 2 weeks ago I was quite impressed with the sound quality on the GoPro you gave. Will give this a watch!
Thanks Ed for the video, it was awesome ✌🍻
I would love to see a video about how you edit your videos Ed!
Same
Me too

Love it Ed! You couldn’t be more right about the audio. Good audio makes a good video. Looking forward to the Georgia series.
Your a great guy. Keep moving forward.
Informative, interesting, and indeed valuable video!
Got “ Georgia 🇬🇪 on my mind “
Love to see how you edit and compile your videos. Enjoying your Georgian series!

Yes please, editing next! Thank you, this information is invaluable for someone starting out 👍🙂
Just grabbed an ND16 for my mini2 via your link. Thanks 👍
Nice one! You won’t regret it. Being able to add some motion blur really adds a lot to aerial footage
Thanks for sharing this - I would definitely love to hear about your editing as well. You do an amazing job in filming and editing 👍

Super helpful and insightful Ed!
Great vid, Ed. Nicely summed up.
Another golden video. Love the T-Shirt design! x
Thanx a lot for sharing your knowledge! We will follow your path.
Can’t wait for the Georgian videos to be out! Well done Ed!
Nice one Ed! Love to see the kit people are using! How are you doing the long distance tracking shots with that drone, didnt think the mini 2 had tracking?
I was going to ask the exact same question

It all looks so casual, but you're a mini film crew :-)
Would love to see insight into your editing process!!

Hi Ed, just wondering how many power banks do you use? What size and how many charges do you get out them? Thanks
Great vid .
Really enjoy your footage. I would appreciate an editing video.
I know i'm late but I wonder what settings you run on both your Lumix DSLR and gopros to be able to match the colors nicely in the edit!
I get vertigo over the second floor ! Wouldn't dare go out on that balcony !

Ed..
How about your sound proof? i mean avoid the wind sound tht get into th video.
wht kind of equipment and microphone tht you use?
That's the fur around the microphone, you'll notice that he's added it to every microphone, even the GoPro
Video on edit stuff please!

You need to follow PAL/NTSC standard according to your country or else when you shoot indoors you get flickering from fluorescence/LED lights.
I'm curious what hardware you use for editing. And what phone you use
In Around the world series he used an old Macbook Air. I didn't know how he survived on such a slow computer. Massive respect for Ed.

i like the boocake thumbnail
Hi
Ya, when are you coming back online? You haven't been detained by authorities I hope.
