The one game that went 3D without compromising at all its art style.
It kinda did though, XX looked quite dark and gritty. now it looks much more cutesy and anime.
@@lawrencegill4505 "gritty" is just a theme they choose not to keep.
True
hello? tekken?
@@thejaniter7887 Tekken 7 is gorgeous but I dunno about the first 3 game...
ditto for Virtua Fighter, DoA and some other 3D fighters...
They did such a great job transitioning their sprites to 3d models.
It wasn't hard for them since they use 3D models even before transitioning to 3D.
They make the characters in 3D, then use them as guides when creating the pixels/2D image. There is a UA-cam video on how ASys do their masterpiece.
I would love to have some great 3d for blazblue too!
@@ChiriConCarne It was still very difficult, tracing over 3d poses when making sprites and fully animating the whole game and characters in 3d are two completely different beasts.
They be too chunky for my taste
0:32 Thank God and Arc System Works for that glorious 3D Baiken.
That shiny jiggle is just mesmerising 😲
*Arc
Not to be confused with AkSys
Yeah but they got rid of Dizzy's underboob with her clothes new design
@Living Corpse actually, she gets her old look back if she uses her Gamma Ray Overdrive, as it destroys the white panel in the front of her shirt
@@Iffem Oh nice. Thank you.
The trick to getting 3D to animate like 2D, is to skip frames. 3D animation tends to be too fluid. Cut back the number of animation frames and the result is like what you have on the right.
There is a video that explains how computers generate automated animations, and how Arc Sys broke the whole process by animating a limited number of frames manually.
@@ArpeggioPegasusMusic And it was the video that got me into GG
@Indescritível Ou Não? Yeah. It's cost effective AND looks good. Win/Win.
@Indescritível Ou Não? It was worth the time and effort.
I think this is one of the reasons why KOF XIV feels so sluggish to play. There's something really wrong in the way they animated the characters. One of the many reasons that killed that bootleg game for me.
1:08 Dude's going to have no pants on next game.
Sike he got his pants back
And we won't judge him for that.
Less to get in his way
And May lost them
Guilty Gear Xrd really is a gift. This game looked and played awesome.
The amount of detail makes me miss Darkstalkers.
Oh man don't get me started! I've been wanting a new Darkstalkers for ages, but when I saw the quality of work coming out of games like Guilty Gear and Dragonball FighterZ I got downright bitter that we'll probably never see it again, and even if we did Capcom would probably go for a more 3D look.
sadowolf It’s tragic, really. I’ve never had the opportunity to play a Darkstalkers game, but the amazing character designs and animation has really caught my interest, not to mention the surprisingly interesting backstories. If the series is ever to return, I would be disappointed to see it take the Street Fighter route aesthetically speaking. If they couldn’t get it to look as pretty as Guilty Gear or Blazblue, it would be neat to see them go with the tried and true 2D art and reanimate it all a la Skullgirls. I realize the tremendous amounts of time and effort required to hand draw so many thousands of sprites so expertly, but surely Capcom could pull it off.
@@Pixygon Darkstalkers was just as much fun to play as it was to look at, it took all the good stuff from the Street Fighter games along with its own spin on things so that it felt familiar but unique. Ono really pushed to produce a new Darkstalkers game, but Capcom basically sabotaged it by saying they'd consider it on the condition that their Darkstalkers Chronicle release sold well...but they released it on the Vita so it was pretty much doomed to fail from the start and everyone knew it. So now the suits at Capcom are convinced that people just don't want a new Darkstalkers game that much.
If they did resurrect it, it's just easier for Capcom to stick with the style they've been using so unfortunately they probably would. I would hope that someone there would realize that you just can't get the best out of a Darkstalkers game visually unless you ramp up the stylization. I think they have access to the talent to make it look every bit as good as Guilty Gear or Blazblue, but I'm not as confident the company would put forth the effort. Actual traditional 2D art like Skullgirls would be fantastic, but that'll probably remain a pipe dream at this point since it's so expensive in terms of man hours and resources and Capcom probably just wouldn't do it because it's not practical when cel shading has gotten so good. Even SNK had to learn that lesson, which is why King of Fighters went from the gorgeous 2D sprites in KoFXIII to the drab 3D graphics in KofXIV (which is still an awesome game).
@@Pixygon Why? There are a fair number of games and all them are perfectly accessible, not some rarity that it's better to give up trying to find...
Dont let Capcom touch the series. They would surely make the likes of Jedah, Felicia and Raptor a fucking dlc. If even Guile, Sagat and Sakura are dlc in Sf5, i have no reason to doubt that. Rather DS absolutely needs to be in Arcsys hands, in a similar agreement as for Dbfz, that was between Bandai Namco and Arcsys.
2D: Great sprite work.
3D: Great cell shading.
Either way the games look awesome ;)
the 3D has a much better animation movements and a much higher resolution
@@takeoyagami6970 You could say that about every modern game.
You need to judge the games based on how good they were for the time and how good they hold up, and compared to many 2D fighters around the same time.
Guilty Gear XX still looks good.
@@ArmaBiologica35 Guilty Gear XX doesn't look Good, it's blurry pixels, but the gameplay is great!
@@ArmaBiologica35 Not really, look at Street Fighter V and IV. They have way worse animation and movement compared to the previous 2d ones. They also """replace""" a lot of physics and clothing animation with a physics engine, wich simply won't do the thing.
@@takeoyagami6970 I disagree. I think it looks great.
No one:
Literally not a soul:
Daisuke: *"MOORE BEELTS"*
The character designs and cel shaded animation looks absolutely amazing in the latest version.
Amazing how they used all the advantages of 3D animation (better lighting, more fluid movement, more consistent sense of mass and direction, easier to track, higher definition, better sense of weight and cleaner look) while managing to carry over all the charming quirks of 2D animation (more exaggerated movement and changing proportions, stylish jagged movement, the same lighting and hand-crafted frames)

Love the music you pick for your videos, please add the song names on descriptions!!
They were like "how about we go 3d but we actually don't?"
That was their exact mindset.
KILL EVERYTHING 3D
i refuse to believe that guilty gear DIDNT start as a challenge to see how many belts they can put on each character, then it just expanded into an incredibly good fighting game from there
i love how potemkin's stance animations is literally the same
Oh, so great... It didn't lose its charm going 3D. This little video (and the music) just makes me wanna play the game RIGHT NOW!!!!
Song is Tahiti - Frenchies, but sped up 10% and extended. Seriously can't find anything else on it, seems like some royalty free deep pull.

A evolução do Guilty Gear é sensacional, parece um anime vivo!
É bizarro como Guilty Gear evoluiu tão bem!
Like, this studio is amazing in doing cell shaded anime fighters, its unreal how good they are
And they are improving notably in everything new they make. Like, even in the history of Dbfz dlc updates they have shown amazing improvements, like from the first chars to the recent Gogeta and Broly.
so almost the same, wow thats honestly impressive

Wow. The 3D looks like a hi def 2D sprite and that’s a compliment. The 2D animates so well.
Music name pls?
Wild Pogo - Francis Preve
Hmm... there's just such a charm to the hand-drawn 2D sprites... but goodness... their 3D cel-shaded work is masterful. I really appreciate the subtle deformations in geometry to simulate the imperfection of hand-drawn art. These guys have class.
It really makes sense when you think about it. Doing this hybrid technique where the computer "draws" everything for you, but you go and adjust the frames as you wish (instead of redrawing and recoloring everything from scratch) and you save yourself headaches, time, money and energy.
Glad to see this in use now. It's easy to tell when computers are drawing versus when humans draw... especially in anime.
The song is Wild Pogo - Francis Preve
Guilty Gear é um jogo muito subestimado. Jogo foda demais tá doido.
Lets be honest, these guys at Arc System Works are the best among the industry. Incredible work.
The first time 3D looks better than the old sprites...
Part of me still really likes scraggly, scrappy Kenshin-ripoff Baiken over her new, more original design.
I mean look at her. It's like she an angry and emaciated stray cat you found out of a dumpster. Also Kenshin is cool.
Agree! Still my fav of the cast but def agree with you. I'll never like the eye patch either.
Y’all are just haters. Baiken looks just fine
@@carlbloke8797 I dont think they hate it at all. You can like both and have a preference. Like I also like 2d Baiken too because of the same reason. Hell that Baiken was even edited to be Kenshin in a Mugen edit :P
I personally prefer her much original feel on Xrd, specially with that haori hanging on her back, makes her look more dangerous. 2D Baiken is great too, but lacks originality in my opinion. As you all have already said, she was basically Kenshin, now she is her own angry thing...Plus, the muscles, she is far more muscular now.
@@xao_phan580 I agree with that as well! I actually confused her as male for awhile because of the Kenshin comparsions, and next to Anti Mito (with his poop hair) had one of the least well drawn sprites of the original game.
Just got into gg and I gotta say I really like the 2D Baiken - I hope someday they bring her back to her roots.
Wow, this will be a first time for me: I actually prefer the 3D version.
Love the 2-D, but the 3-D versions are even more gorgeous!
Who knows the music? It’s fire

3D model Guilty Gear is perfect!
Potemkin from old games is on another level

The best fighting saga!!!!! :D
The music is nice
When it comes to Guilty Gear the 2d sprites and 3d models are so good you can't compare but instead appreciate both and pick a preference.

I love the 3D that seems 2D
*You need to do now a Triple comparison: Guilty Gear (PSX) vs. X~AC+R (PS2) vs. Xrd~REV2 (PS3).*
Someone should do 3D models of the other old characters and 2D sprites for the new characters.
Can't wait till 4D comes out
I love the jiggle physics of this game.
For real! Each of Johnny's individual abs has its own gravitational pull.
*THICK WAIFU BAIKEN!* 🤪👅🍈🍈
Only Millia seems can be improved on her hair part. The 2D sprite shows it can splits and flow while idle, the 3D polygon feels like a solid block hanging. All others are good.
Guilty Gear, one of the most creative and awesome fighting games of all time. This could be a an cool anime! And both 2D and 3D are just fine!

And in some cases in reverse, like 3d Baiken and Slayer look better, even though I like 2d Baiken alot more. Millia and Sol look better in 2d though. 2d Millia should get the black leg stockings.

Along with Dragonball, this is the most attractive "non-2D, 2D fighter".
I sincerely wish Capcom would've actually put some effort into making any of the modern gen "versus" fighters half this attractive.

It must be like the Kof Xiii situation. The huge investment couldnt allow the addition of many veterans. That Kof roster is very underwhelming. But that might change in the next GG... They might be able to bring more graphics quality and a bigger roster.
Is the 3D image "mirrored"? If that's not the case, Baiken switched her arm's side

Do a whole movelist comparison for each and every characters.
He only does sprite comparisons.
The only character which I didn't like the transition that much was Millia, her stance and idle animations were more interesting and I'm not a big fan o her hair being all stiff like that all the time.
(I miss dem thighs too)
Right
Thighs with tights are objectively superior to raw thighs. Fight me.
Does anyone know the name of the tune that's playing?
I like baiken 2d posture more the way she stands i mean but I love Tha way she walks on 3d
My biggest problem with 2D Baiken's stance was how "realistic" it was, like it lacked style. In my opinion, 3D fixed that while giving her a more fierce, stylish stance. With that said, l am not implying 2D Baiken's stance is bad, it just lacked that over-the-top feel an anime game should give you, if it was Soul Calibur or Tekken, it would have been more fitting, but for Guilty Gear, it definitely was a bit too plain.
I would always of been a 2D man but they did such a great job on the 3D I have to give it to them.
Nombre de la canción xD?
Imagine if we get this animation in MVC.😂
Can anyone please tell me what is the title of the background music?
