- March 8, 2014 This was a three story balloon frame home (3,600 sq ft) with moderate to heavy fire at the rear of the residence. Initial assignment on this fire was 3 engines, 1 ladder, 1 medic and 1 chief officer. An additional 2 engines and 2 medics were added for the working fire. Four attack lines were stretched interior but was unsuccessful at stopping the fire. Crews went defensive and a 2.5" line was used at the rear of the structure and a ladder pipe at the front of the structure. No injuries were reported.

The homeowners of Newark Ohio should get a huge discount on their homeowners fire insurance due to the incredible efficiency and professionalism of this Department .
It's really nice to see a Chief who actually knows how to command a fire scene. Decker should be awarded the Doctor of Fires degree , so he' be known as David Decker, DF
I like DFD as in David Fuckin Decker.
Chief Deckers' videos should be mandatory viewing for all potential Fire Dept supervisors, and really all supervisors of first responders. Chief Decker arrives on scene and Immediately declares the HE IS THE INCIDENT COMMANDER . That is lacking in many organizations. People want to be a boss, but they don't want to own the incident.
Not sure if the chief sees the posts but I will say that his guys DO haul ass and don't piddle around or walk around looking for something to do! They all know what to do and hurry to get the job done. He must keep a tight ship there which is really great. You can tell that these guys train often, hard & know how to work together. Excellent crew.
Kick Ass job from command chief. Calm and decisive
Thank you Chief Decker for the videos, very educational. From start to finish.
Much respect for this man awesome job Chief salute.
Very good to see clear command and response! Well equipped and trained.
They know exactly what their doing good calm command professional
What video was you watching?
😂
Other videographers' comments are turned off for this FD. I want to commend Newark, OH on their professionalism.
This looks like they did what was needed with no BS. A line to the back for visible burning material and crews inside. No Vertical Venting or window breaking.
Well well JB91710 You think this department does a good job and to tell the truth the result from this video proves that they got the job done well. here is Chief Decker's responses to two comments from another video.

It just takes commitment and practice brother. I promise you that I was not smooth when I first started commanding fires. I'm still not where I'd like to be. But I continue to train and analyze what I did right and what I did wrong. It is a deliberate process to become good at this. You have to admit where you fumbled the ball and very open to constructive criticism. All while remaining humble."

@13ecker As an IC I have never done so. If I arrived by myself (no engine even close) and I had good information that someone was trapped inside I would go in. I've actually done that on a previous fire. But if I'm the IC and we have units on scene of a working fire, technically my job is outside coordinating the activity. I don't see how someone could really command a fire while geared up and inside (just my opinion, of course)."
The URL for this video is ua-cam.com/video/9US71dRWzao/v-deo.html As you can see Chief Decker comments upon the coordination of fire attack by an Incident Commander IC this is something you slammed me for elucidating in earlier comments.
the fire never got much chance to take hold that is an awesome job
One of the best fds around always quick
As soon as I heard balloon framing when I was on scene, I'm thinking this is going to be a long day
I agree with Mr. Robichaud 100%. Balloon framing should be a BAD word with firefolk!!
I saw another video from you that had the comments closed. I suggest you open the comments for all the Newark Ohio fires because so far, they might just be the best fire department in the USA and they Need to here my comments.!
JB9171: Maybe comments were disabled because of trolls like yourself.
@@adelefarough5123 They NEED to hear his comments...lol.
@@CoTreyLoZ Two worthless children with Nothing constructive to say. Your channels are as empty as your heads.
Newark Fire has their stuff together, that is a fact!!!!!!
First time I’ve ever heard that much intensity on the radio from C Decker
What a blessing you all are!
Balloon framing, a firefighters worst nightmare. Can allow the fire to spread quickly throughout the structure.
That's tough. Pretty sharp OLD home. Hope they had ins!
That's my friend that lives there!!
How badly was the house damaged?
The song that's on @3:40 is pretty ironic!! But strong work guys/girls!!

David Decker the legend.
Got to love balloon construction
Balloon construction. That puts the building between the late 1800s to very early 1900s.
There is a good chance that the insulation in the walls would be newspaper or sawdust. Uber flammble at any rate.

Good job boys now if somebody would do your job wouldn't be so bad
And a camera that sits still, not jerked with every response.
Dash cam that's why as it's in fixed position not hand held

Is there a part two of this vid?
Who is the guy with the turnout coat and old thigh high boots??
So, were's the attack ???
As I watch this, a general comment : all fire units, kill the flashing & switch to flood lights ASAP. Flashing can embarrass, and also attracts crowds. This is to all police, fire, & e.ms.s units.
I will disagree. These flashing lights make the scene safer. I notice that the actual incident is the attraction of the onlookers. I don't believe they are there to watch flashing lights. They would be there anyways.
When arriving on scene last thing your worried about is shutting down the emergency lighting
Embarrass? Wth are you even talking about?
