The Olympic games were held to be one of the two central rituals in ancient Greece, the other being the much older religious festival, the Eleusinian Mysteries. . The Mycenaeans adopted Minoan games and also raced chariots in religious or funerary ceremonies. Homer's heroes participate in athletic competitions to honor the dead. In the Iliad there are chariot races, boxing, wrestling, a foot race, as well as fencing, archery, and spear throwing. The Odyssey adds to these a long jump and discus throw. Aristotle reckoned the date of the first Olympics to be 776 BC, a date largely accepted by most, though not all, subsequent ancient historians.

In Greek and early Roman culture, games were held as part of funerary rites.
When the Coliseum was built the Romans broke the ethical code by sanctioning gladiator contests without the need of a funeral to proceed it.
Originally ancient folk held gatherings between tribes and games of contest were held. I think it was the Indo-Europeans who held warrior contests to honour the dead as part of the funeral rites.

So it would seem that the challenges of being an athlete focused on martial skills is one of the highest forms of spiritual perfection. The daily grind of pushing one's body, addressing the various emotional / psychological obstacles one must overcome via the hardships of training, and being transformed by the intellectual / philosophical demands as a necessary part of growth to becoming a warrior poet will bring forth the highest form of the individual who stays dedicated and focused.

Okay, so I’ve been in combat sports my entire life. I can only really tell you my own experiences, but there’s a concept that’s sometimes called “Martial Mind” or “Battle Meditation” where everything slows way down and the sound gets really dulled and you get some minor tunnel vision going on. I always tell people that outside of a near death experience I once had I’ve never felt closer to the Grand Architect of our Universe than I do when that psychological state is triggered.
There’s also a concept called the Triple Crown which is mastery of body first, then mind and then spirit, which represents the steps it takes to achieve your idealized self.

21:05 this guy achieved a triple crown and was worshipped as a God. Arminius achieved a triple crown when he destroyed three full legions and then took their Aquilas and placed them atop the three tallest Norwegian Spruce trees in the Teutoberg Forest. Arminius victory happened as the Romans were moving to their winter camp. First day of winter is December 21.

27:15 here Plato is talking about the first two steps of the triple crown.
You can’t master your mind until you mater your body.
And you’ll never hope to mater your spirit unless you’ve first mastered your mind.

27:55 the Klitschko brothers have PhD’s, speak 5 languages each and are chess masters.
They reigned atop heavyweight boxing for over a decade.
There ARE dumb fighters, obviously, but you’ll find most combat sport athletes are not dumb jocks.
Artem Vakhitov is a Glory kickboxing champion who is a classically trained pianist.
Alexander Gustafsson was a bit of a thug in his youth before being introduced to MMA and now he’s a highly productive member of society who owns his own gym in Sweden.

I don’t know if they are right, but you seam to know more than me about it. Michael would know if it the true description. Meanwhile I am going to screen shot them and write them down as I am a sponge about this stuff. Thank you so much. All of my handed down genealogy from my grandparents says m from Germany and Scandinavia so I did a DNA test just make sure cause I have been really getting into the Norse beliefs. After finding all this out it’s like finally returning home. Thank you again!

Achilles is called a Scythian Prince. So I think it’s more than likely. Not “Norse” per se, but people who would today be considered Germanic. You have to understand how closely related Scythians are to the Goths and the Vikings both.
