    Her one and only album meant so much to me. It was incredible, and the soundtrack to my 20's. Brings back so many beautiful memories. Thank you Kena, for sharing your talent to the world.

    My favorites from her 2000 album was "Me" and "Dark Cloud" but love the message of "Girl From The Gutter". I was in high school and did get her album in 2000. Kina and Andre 3000 plus Michael Jackson before them inspired me as a black person to love all American music genres which black people in America had a hand in originating including rock, pop, country, gospel, jazz, soul, R&B and rap/hip hop.

    so awesome to see some love for kina cosper! she and dionne farris were like the "anti-r&b, r&b singers of the early 2000's and paved the way for the entire alternative neo soul movement. i bought this cd when it was released, and it's STILL in rotation! her work is very raw and honest and vulnerable, and as said, she moves in her own lane. hope she knows that she's missed.

      Right just because one is a black singer doesn’t mean they have to sing rb music. They public always pigeon holes them. They did the same to Tina Turner

    You and I are in the same boat. I just recently discovered Kina’s album and fell in love at first listen. I always thought it would be Maxee that would go the alternate route. I was pleasantly surprised that it was Kina. Such an amazing body of work!

    Interesting view from the outside, a little different from the real version. Amazing person, talented artist, an amazing album. Still listen to my old friend to this day. Much love.

    I run into her sometimes. She did a kickstarter like 10 years ago to finance a new project. Seek her out, she's still making things.

    Nicci revealed recently during an interview that after Kiss and Tell was released and they did a performance which was on yt (they wear black lace outfits) It was actually Maxee who decided to leave the group and she and Kina wanted didn't want to split but they also wouldn't feel comfortable replacing Maxee. #RIHMaxee

      @iampause Рік тому +2

      I don't think that's true, not long after Nicci and Maxee performed as a duo with Céline Dion at the Essence Awards. Kina has admitted from the very beginning that she left the group.

      @_AceReject Рік тому

      @@iampause Nicci has stated at least twice that it was actually Maxee who left the group and given their friendship and how close they were she knows what she is talking about. I know about the performance with Celine but I believe she was absent and not that she had left the group.

      @Right_Direction_ Рік тому

      Nicci says it here in this interview. HOWEVER, it's not true, timeline doesn't add up. Kina left in 1998, Nicci and Maxee performed as a duo with Celine Dion after Kina had left the group. Maxee didn't officially leave Brownstone until 1999.
      Kina has always said she left the group, even in a recent interview she said this.

    I didn’t care too much for Kina’s album because it sounded like praise and worship music. It didn’t sound like Rock, she should have stuck with the R&B, But Girl from the gutter was fire! They just didn’t market her right; that Grace Jones esthetic was NOT it.
