    AI Systems in Government: Challenges & Opportunities
    Speakers: Jared Dunnmon
    Abstract:
    The arrival of highly capable AI systems holds the potential for substantial impact on the public sector. Dr. Dunnmon will speak about the role of AI in government and defense, give examples of where these systems are already having concrete impact, touch on some of the particularly interesting technical problems that AI practitioners see in government, and provide perspective on future challenges and opportunities for AI in this space.
    Bio:
    Dr. Jared Dunnmon served as Technical Director for Artificial Intelligence at the Defense Innovation Unit from 2020-2023. During this time, Jared was also a founding member of the Office of Emerging Capabilities Policy in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy. Prior to DIU, Jared was an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Fellow in Computer Science at Stanford University, where he was advised by Prof. Chris Re, and a member of the early team at Snorkel AI. Jared holds a PhD from Stanford University (2017), a B.S. from Duke University, and both an MSc in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing and an MBA from Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. He is currently a Term Member at the Council on Foreign Relations.
