My grandfather had this car before he passed away... he had a few tickets on it (he called it the go fast car) he was so sweet. Treasure the time you have with your family kids...
The 3.9L V8 was actually a Jaguar AJ-V8 that was modified by Ford/Lincoln. In fact, quite a bit of the LS's components, design and engineering came from Jaguar and was also shared with the Jaguar S-Type, thanks to Ford's ownership of Jaguar at that time. Both the Lincoln LS and its sister the Jaguar S-Type was a joint-effort between Ford and Jaguar, and engineers from both companies came together to develop these cars. The Jaguar V8 was a stellar motor, a very modern design which was very durable and also had a great exhaust note, it was actually one of the best things about the LS (and this was confirmed by most of the reviews at that time), especially in the 2003 and up models which had the revised & improved version which put out around 280 hp. Although the LS did have some reliability issues it was primarily the early 2000 and 2001 model years that were affected. By the time the refreshed & improved 2003 model year came out most of the reliability issues were ironed out and resolved. One of the big reliability problems for the early model years had to do with the transmission, as they were prone to premature failure. If you are considering a purchase of the LS the best advice would be to stick with the 2003-2006 model years. Their were over 500 specific improvements made to them in the 2003+ model years, particularly the interior quality and design was a big improvement. And these cars have a very advanced suspension design, fully-independent front and rear double-wishbone suspension layout which is what gives the car its above-average ride & handling characteristics.
my uncle drove a 2000 LS V8 for 14 years, had over 400,000 miles before it was totalled by a truck last month, before that, he never had a single problem
Scott125670 no problems at 400k miles huh? I call bs. All cars have issues . My navigator with 90k miles has had issues and it has s bulletproof engine and transmission but the air suspension is a pain. Now something with the powesteering is messed up and I take good care if her
@@nickys1008 Actually the 3.9L V8 is a Ford-modified Jaguar AJ-V8, and it's a very modern design that was known for high reliability and durability. Jaguar still uses the basic design of this V8 to this day in it's 3rd generation, and Aston Martin also still uses a special hand-built 4.7L version of it. You might be thinking of the 5-speed automatic transmissions in these cars, they did have some reliability issues, particularly the earlier model years. But the 3.9L V8 was solid and with a great exhaust note, actually one of the best parts of the entire car.
I wish you'd say more about the comfort of the cars you review, even if it's a subjective matter. This particular Lincoln is a very comfortable car to sit in.
I have a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 with 183k. It's been a pretty good car, but it's mainly a cruiser. City mpg can sometimes be around 13-15 which sucks, but it is a V8. I've managed about 22-24 mpg highway. Overall a good car is you maintain it. If you dont change your transmission fluid regularly it's obviously going to have problems.
I think they intended for it to take on the AUDI A4, BMW 3-Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class... But hardly anyone beyond rental agencies bought it. It is a cool enough car, as long as you are in one of the front seats. The rear seat is horrible for anyone near or over six feet tall.
they kind of abandoned it..then dropped the base engine and the price shut up..now you were paying mercedes $ and no on went for that..they sold less than 7000 the last year
They were built along with cousin cars the Taurus and Sables this was Lincolns version of those cars. I had a 2001 Mercury Sable LS Premium top of the line and it very closely resembles this car. Only difference is you can get the V8 in the Lincoln . When they discontinued these in 07 its cause the plant that built them shut down thanks to the Mexican built CD3 cars Fusion, Milan and MKZ which replaced the LS
Kyle, for a guy who apparently has family that owns a dealership you do a nice job with the cars you present. I also like these cars here as they have the key hole that is on the dash. That is so much nicer and like cars use to be----Cadillac Seville of the early 2000s had that feature also. Lincoln LS is a nice RWD auto---but buy a V8! Much nicer power and the torque is wonderful on V8s.
I had an 02 V8 I called my "Cat in Presidents clothing." Had it for a couple of years, but had to sell it as it wouldn't pass NB inspection, and I couldn't afford to get it fixed. Loved it, though. Almost as much as the 99 TC it replaced. :)
I have an 03, and it's only about 50 lbs lighter @ 3811lbs surprisingly. I'm also surprised the 4.6 has less tourque also (275 vs 286 for the 3.9). The difference on the drag strip would be which one is better maintained I think.
Love the look and feel of the LS. Just stunning. At least this model's 3.9L Jaguar engine beats out the Taurus engine they placed in the V6 models. I have no idea why that even happened.
I just got one with 170000 miles on it and I'm surprised that it runs so amazing and fast! At this mileage the engine sounds great if you got the V8 and this car is definitely a nice upgrade from older Audi A4 1996. I never drove a BMW but can't afford one, im a college student only 21 years old so this is already a pretty cool ride for now. But I do want the BMW 745 LI any year after 2004 they're incredible.
Love my 02 lse. Hit 156k and I haven't had any major issues though there have been a good amount of minor annoying ones like electrical and fried piston rings among others.
I just got a 2004 Lincoln LS V6 fully loaded as my first car(rain sensing wipers, power adjustable pedals, chrome wheels etc. One of the rare fully loaded v6 models). It's just missing the heated/cooled seats.
I had a 5 series BMW and it was a wonderful road handling car---rock solid engine and suspension but wow---after the warranty was up it cost me 7 grand at 105,000 so I dumped it and right after I traded it the transmission went out on it. Beamers are expensive to maintain!
My 03 LS needed ball joints (upper and lower). The ceiling panel around the break light droops a little. I get a mild fan noise when the seat heater is on (go figure). The insurance cost was significantly higher than my previous Buick lasabre. Other than that, I like it.
really like this car. i was reading up on it and u can roll the windows down and open the sunroof from the remote! just hold down the unlock button. try it out LS owners u really want one with a 5-speed tho

It all depends on how you drive for gas mileage. I have a 2001 3.9 and i average 31mpg highway, 28 with a/c. But i drive the speed limit and dont get to the floor with it. In town about 14mpg. But since I drive both regularly i get 21mpg. This is both hitting reset to check mileage by car, and doing old skool "miles to gallons used" math. I also run only 91 octane. Hope this helps anyone.

Anyway, how does the '99+ conti fare against the '03 and up 280 HP 3.9L V8 in the LS? The conti weighs 3,850 LBS, I'm not sure what the LS V8 weighs though. Do you guys think it would be a close race on the 1/4 mile track? I know it's not really important, but I was just curious about this one.
My parents bought this car for me while I attend the University. Love this car! Pretty high class for a poor college student lol
Got damn right it was... better get those good grades! Lol
Very nice Lance!! Hopefully you had the V6 so gas was cheaper lol
This was my first new car, great memories.
How was the ride? Was it soft over the pot holes and bumps in the road..or did it ride harder?
Detroit borg u here??? I forgot u for ages
@DetroitBORG Yes, I love the LS. Just like the Thunderbird!

Ford sold to Jaguar and now these version of car is a xf

Beautiful. I have 2004 lincoln LS v8. Runs really smooth, take care of this car and it will take care of you. Im extremely happy with this vehicle.
