When you make a save state you also get a copy of the actual save file on the SD card, backup both the state and the savefile. Also remember that the sleep/wake function is actually a save and restore of a savestate and this can mess things up. Don’t use this function if you play on a different device as well because waking will restore the savefile that was taken when the device went to sleep.
appreciate the insight! What happens if I do not use an SD card or have one inserted while I play? Curious if you have any info on if this can happen if there is no SD inserted
@@nostalgicnighthawk sleep and wake works without an SD card, so there is internal memory set aside for at least 1 save state. This means that the same risks with sleep/wake are there. Normal save states/memories are disabled however.
Your videos, in specific the one you amde documenting your 1000+ hour save file of Fire Red, really reinvigorated my desire to spend some actual time in a Pokemon game. Yes this exact thing happened to my Fire Red save file with my silver Analogue Pocket, lost my full living dex and 3 shiny mons 😢 been using save states ever since to hopefully counter this. It never said “the save file has been deleted” . I just turned it on one day and it started up like starting a new game with no indication of a save file ever being on there. Be careful 👍
Happened to me while testing the save states but I was able to find a backup in my gba operator vault. It’s the save states that are what deletes the file in Pokémon games. Nobody has reported a deleted save without using a save state and save state includes turning on/off the pocket without quitting the Pokémon game first. Quit the Pokémon game first before turning the pocket off and turn the pocket on before you insert the cartridge to guarantee you avoid this problem.
Dude, my FireRed save just got deleted by the Analogue Pocket! I don’t know why or how, but it’s gone. I’ve tried everything a can recover the save, but to no avail. It was my childhood copy that I put at least 100 hours into. I remember buying the game and playing it on long road trips. My Charizard became my first level 100 in any game (it was also the Pokemon I was the most proud of). It took me 6 months to catch Zapdos because I only had 14 UltraBalls when I encountered it. Yes !! Has been happening to me ! It happens when you create a save/load point ! It’s worded very weird it says something along the lines of the save files will be replaced by save points or something like that, basically it deletes your actual save and switches it to save points
Oh btw, little battle frontier tip for you; the difficulty for the Battle Factory is actually bugged and scales off your win streak at the Battle Tower instead of the Factory. So if you try to start a streak at the Factory right after getting a medal or working on a streak at the Tower your round 1 opponents will have Pokemon with really high IVs and it'll be way harder than it's supposed to be. So you need to be on a 0 win streak at the Tower BEFORE you try to do the Factory. Just a heads-up so you're aware, as doing the Factory with increased difficulty from the Tower can be infuriating.
thanks for the tips! I heard about this only briefly but didnt fully learn about it. Before I start any factory run, i will ensure the tower win streak is at 0. This is SUPER handy to know!
Hi Nostalgic, great video! I’m glad you’re doing well with the Pokémon you like I’m still deciding my team at the moment. I had a question about if a Pokémon evolves with a stone or trading should I do that as early as possible when ev training a Pokémon? (Gengar, Archanine, eevee)
Some Pokémon don’t learn moves that their pre-evolutions learn, like how getting earthquake on Flygon either requires you to level Trapinch to !73! Or use your only earthquake TM. You might have to slap an EXP share on or throw them in the daycare.
@@jmorrison4863 you’re welcome!! I just trained up a naughty natured nincada to level 25 so I could have a shedinja with false swipe on my Japanese Ruby ^.^
Man I'm going through a hectic training process atm to get an umbreon on Emerald for the battle frontier. After hours of breeding, I went for a two perfect IV one with wonderful stats. I then ev trained it in emerald, only to remember that it doesn't evolve into umbreon because my clock battery is done and stuck on day time. So I transferred it to leafgreen to do the friendship grind all over again. As I was about to finish, I discovered that leafgreen doesn't have a clock at all, so it can't evolve eevee into umbreon there either. So now I had to restart my ruby copy (also with dead battery) just so I can fix the time needed to evolve Eevee into umbreon. But I need to play through the game, raising friendship a third time, hoping it'll evolve before reaching lvl 50 ... What a wild ride 😅

Regarding the lost save file thing. Awesome video, mate! This is a (very!) long term question, but with only Pokémon Emerald, Platinum and Soulsilver having a Battle Frontier (albeit Platinum shares it with SS), does it “worry” you that at some point you might not have any more content to complete? I know this sounds like a bit of an insane question, but when I look at the more recent games, it fills me with sadness knowing that there’s not an endgame challenge to complete (other than online play, but truth be told, I’ve moved on from it).
LONG term question but yes that is something that will inevitable happen. It doesnt worry me because there is so much time between now and then and a lot to enjoy.
