This happened in state that I used to live in! A lady who ran an local HOA cut down an old Oak! Turns out it was on the registry of historical trees...because of it's size and longevity! OOPS! The neighborhood ladies, tired of the lady's over the top dictator behavior, simply notified the National Registry of Historical Trees...who knew there was such a Registry(?) I didn't. Well it seemed the lady had taken on the FEDS! And they made her life hell, sued for damages, filed criminal charges, and just 'ran her through the chopper' (pun intended)! I moved out of state but I heard from friends that she moved, took off to parts unknown after she encountered the law and a lot of neighborhood animosity. Karma!

She harassed him about a supposed diseased tree for theoretically weeks maybe months all this time never looking at her own trees and it was her own tree that fell down and caused damage his tree is fine and still up. That is the purest form of irony. First thing we did when we bought our house was hire an arborist to come look at all of our trees. Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house. Don't cut down neighbor's trees until you check your own trees.

Here in California Oak trees are protected and unless they are dead or seriously diseased, you can not cut them down.
