Well done, nice fish. Isn't an 11' switch rod a bit short for the main Tyne? Red flies have always done well for me in the autumn. I can think of many places where I have caught fish under wires...some people reckon the electromagnetic current attracts the fish, who knows for sure!
Hmm, seatrout does in general want more speed and smaller flies than the salmon does. Atleast here in Norway so it would be a good assumption that the seatrout you have behave in the same way.

Yes you need a bigger rod for the Tyne. I think I was waiting for a new line or something so had to use the switch.

What length leader do you use?
Same as the rod length plus a couple of extra feet. In that case it would have been 10 feet of polyleader with 3 feet of mono.
