      I had suspected you were using an electric mower instead of a gas mower when it started to get bogged down in the thicker grass. I had the exact same problem when I was using an electric mower, but when I switched to a gas mower I no longer had any problems mowing my lawn. I understand why there is a movement for people to switch from gas lawn equipment to electric, but as of yet electric lawn equipment simply can't compete with gas motors. Maybe someday that will change, but until then I'm sticking with the equipment that can actually get the job done and give me a clean, sharp cut for my lawn.

    I might be wrong. But it seems that bag of your Toro mower is very dirty with dried grass juice in combination with dust. What i do is always wash it after any moving. There is direct correlation of air moving out through walls of bag and filling of bag with grass. If air is not able to go through walls it goes back to mower and blocks grass to move into bag.

    Sounds like the TTTF i have in my backyard. I have to cut it multiple times. I just cut a bocce ball court into my backyard, went 3.5 inches to 1. Took about 6 passes, discharge, mulch, bag, hand rake. I had to do it all multiple times. 500sq filled 3 lawn bags with clippings. I do have an older mower, but its a freshly sharpened gator g5 blade.

  • @Taydrum
    @Taydrum Рік тому

    In my experience, when the mower Isn't bagging the clippings, the grass is too tall. I've found what also helps, is to clean out the underside of the mower deck as it gets clogged up and doesn't move the grass properly into the bag. But, mowing in increments and when the grass isn't wet, is key to preventing the mower from spitting out the clippings

    @ryanknorrwancare I live near Toronto Canada and have an awesome lawn thanks to your tips. I am trying something new this fall with seeding. I just lowered my mow yesterday from 3.5 inch to 1.75 and it was quite the task. I dethatched, added some topsoil and overseed with PRG only. (My lawn currently has a mix of PRG, KBG and Fescue.)
    Once the temps start to dip here by mid September, I plan to overseed again with KGB. It is a slower growing grass so I am trying to time it with the weather so there is no need to mow frequently which will allow the seed to root and establish nicely. Just wanted to know your thoughts on that.

    Unpaid, unrequested plug here. After doing your zone-determination homework, anyone remotely on the fence about getting Ryan's elite perennial rye grass, take note: just do it.
    I can only speak from my experience, and to that I offer this: that stuff is amazeballs. It geminates in about a week, is hand-reel mow-able after 2 to 2-1/2 weeks, and will grow f'ing *anywhere* . I did a late renovation last fall (had to wait for the temperatures to get down low enough) and I can honestly say I have the best looking lawn in my neighborhood of 180 homes. I wanted to do a spring over-seed, but the weather flipped too fast and I was too busy, and it *still* looks amazing.
    People ask me how I did it, and I sum it up by telling them, "Watch this guys videos, get his seed and products, follow his maintenance and feeding plans, and yours can look as good as mine, if not better." Don't kid yourself; its not something to take lightly; it will be work, but if you put work into it and load the dice in your favor by using quality products you WILL reap rewards.
    So, just do it.

What is the best strategy to prep for the scalp with the primary focus on the success of my new KBG cultivars? Stress the existing by withholding water for the next few weeks? Let is grow even longer beforehand so it's a more dramatic cut during the scalp? Appreciate your insight!

    And the sad part is it is preached to overseed tttf every year. No wonder people are always fighting disease. Creating their own problems. I have been mowing mine around 3” all year and it seems much happier than at 3.5” or above. And looks much better as well

    I think high lift blades with side discharge is the best way to get low quick. Clippings that have been side discharged are easier to bag. That was difficult to watch.

    Yeah one of the reasons I'm refusing to go electric except for the blower I use for the garage. Have a strong feeling everyone pushing electric are shills. Lol
