    It’s very inspirational that you guys open up with prayer 🙏 before hunting. God is glorified in that fellas. Keep it up and at it.

    Oh, y'all took me back decades of when I would rabbit hunt in Mississippi and Tennessee. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. In 1963 my dad was raising half Basset hound, half Beagles. they couldn't run the distance of a Beagle but they could go places the Beagle had trouble getting. And those long ears could stir up and hold scent for the nose to smell. The folds of skin under his chin, called the dewlap, help trap and hold the scent.

      @@bensonskennel Awe ty. To think we used slingshots before I was allowed a firearm. We prayed for a rabbit sitting somewhere in the sun. Have a blessed day.

      Briar Boyz!! They are a little pricey!! I had a small stock put back, but I could use more boxes now. I just love the challenge of shooting .410.

      I use the Garmin Alpha 100. Don’t leave home without. Make the training and handling so much better.

    If the rabbit was running away from me I would aim at the crest of the head between the ears. No matter what his speed was. As far as one crossing my path, I would lead one "Skull length." Depending upon their speed of course. As for the direction a rabbit might take? I always watched their shoulders. Whatever shoulder dropped, is almost always the direction their going to turn. I learned using a single shot J.C. Higgins 12 gauge. I had one shot, so I had to be on the money. At 9 years old, my Marine father demanded it. LOL

    As a hunter from Ohio, I have to wonder about snake danger in the southern states when hunting with dogs. Do your dogs ever deal with snake bites, especially during the summer off season? Genuinely curious

    • @bensonskennel
      @bensonskennel  2 роки тому

      Yes, we have to really watch for rattlesnakes during warm and hot weather. I have only had 1 dog bitten in 15 years. However, I’ve known a houndsman to have 2 dogs killed during one hunt due to snakebites. Again, that is very rare. I may see 1 snake all summer.

      Time in the woods training good breeder dogs and you’ll be running just as good as anyone else. There are a lot of good dogs out there!
