@@nolfred98 wrong! It's actually the title track. If you listen carefully when Matt drew out the longest "Cause you don't under stand meeeeeee!" right before the ending breakdown section, you can hear it layered beneath that much more subtly
Yeah but he could do like Matt Heafy and just do it for studio stuff and live he would use appropriate screaming technique that doesn't fuck up his voice.
He got to where he was screaming most of the old stuff live again, and I think when he blew his voice he blamed it on that instead of all the straight up vocal fry / gruff on his singing. Spent years learning fry screaming so he wouldn't have strain on his voice any for the old shit, and then stopped using it. Sad days
metfan4l I actually hated it the first 10 times I heard it. Then I kept listening and it quickly became an album I listened to everyday. You have to respect what these dudes do.
Madiro's drumming was mediocre and boring, but also Matt wasn't able to scream properly. He was relearning technique at the time. Maybe that's the reason there are no screams on Silence in the snow
what? For me, the drum work on the last album was amazing, but im not surprised it could be recieved as a little too "scripted". I think overall he did a great job.
Yo, I love the honesty here. Admitting Silence was made the way it was by necessity (though I still enjoyed it quite a bit), admitting Matt's using false chord again for the album, everything. I love that. Even more hyped for the new album now Edit: also love that the videos aren't super fucking depressing like the making of In Waves and VF were. Didn't watch the making of Silence because I was already struggling not to slash my wrists after those two lmao
Damn....Matt unleashed the beast. Glad to see it and no issues with his health while doing so. Super excited to listen to the record and see them live soon!
I actually appreciate that the final "whatever it takes" vocal tracks ended up making it. That's a true artist to literally sacrifice his voice for an unknown amount of time to make sure this level of singing/screaming is captured on the record.
He knows how to scream. He just wanted a more raw sound for the album. Live he sounds the same because of all the shit going on. But in an isolated track it wasn't the same so he went for that old technique. Lots of artists do that. Oli did that for sempeternal. He literally could only record line for line and would take weeks break to be able to make the full album. Which is why he sucks so bad live...
Feel bad that Matt has to hurt himself to make this album the way 'everyone' wants it to be. But damn. It does sound badass without the slightest bit of doubt. These documentary series have really caught me. Really the only notification I get excited for. Awesome.
So now I'm 100% sure that on the record he's recorded his screams with his old, perfect sounding technique. Using his throat. On live he'll do them (already doing it as a matter of fact) with his new harmless, yet, less powerfull and weaker technique. I wish he could learn how to use his diaphragm as other singers do to do them properly and better than what he does live in the past 1-2 years.
bgkakos I hope that's not the case. He did say something about if you can't do it live then he won't do it on the record. By doing that he would be completely contradicting that statement.
That was his philosophy during the VF days, but he's changed his tune since then. Understandable enough, though I wish he at least went back to no vocal tuning. His voice doesn't need it As for diaphragm, eh. I get why he wants to use frys live (easier on the throat, and easier to transition in and out of screaming, and it sounds close enough to his style), but homeboy could technically learn false chord properly for albums. He probably doesn't because then it would sound way differently than his fry scream. If he suddenly drastically changes his sound between albums and live, people would bitch and moan, so I can't say I blame him
He initially thougt he was not going to scream but as the record went on..he realized that i studio that would add some more to the album and risked his voice for that...now knowing the correct techniques to recover... The he decided to do it..as hs feelings showed him to...That´s a true artist! Great job Matt , I love your vocals...the cleans are better every album, the screams, are the best!
Someone can tell me if it´s..Josh Gilbert from ex- ASILDying the one on the recording board? He made some great voices and choruses for ASILD , while being their bassist...OMG!
These dudes are raw. I have a deeper appreciation for their sound and I didn't think that was possible because im a 100% all the way fan. Just saying how does an a+ become more?! they do it somehow. how much effort they put into this is phenomenal. Love their old and new stuff! Never unastounded. Love it!
hey, I am french student and juste, i love you, i love your song, i can do a little work for translate but that's cool, juste it's crasy a talk about toi to my friends all time x) just good job
hahaha look guys I love these videos and I it's great that you're showing a bit of insight on the process, it's really interesting but holy hell. When you're being interviewed does the camera really need to be zoomed in on your nose and eyes haha
This video is deep!!! I appreciate Matt, su much, because while he has one of the best clean singing voices in the world!! One of the things I fell in love with TRIVIUM for was due to the power of Matt's metal screaming voice!! I'm glad Matt went the distance and took the risks to put the vocal quality even in his moments of fear to give us the beauty of "The Sin and The Sentence"!!! The sin and the sentence is one of my favorite if not my favorite trivium song from the second I heard it!!
Well 2 yrs ago i hated on matt for his live style of sining but me being a little older im thinking nah. It's fair enough and he Album was awsome and the guys did a great Job! I hope he would do the vocals the same way like on this Album on Future ones too but live i really dont mind him doing what ever feels right Keep it up lads
This is why I roll my eyes during their documentaries of their last couple albums. They talk about it like it's their best work yet and praise it like hell, and then the truth comes out later, "That album was one hand tied behind our back trivium." I understand they're not gonna undermine their own work but atleast be honest. Always goes from this is the best album we've made to oh we were handicapped.
So interesting that after all these years Matt STILL doesn’t know how to scream properly. Not hating, it’s just interesting. Just goes to show that he’s a guitar player naturally who was forced to be the singer at the beginning of Trivium’s career.
I feel like we are hurting him. It takes so much to pull it in studio and we demand the same or even better vocal performance on stage during an entire tour. Talk about pressure!
I just hope Paulo follows Matt's tenacity in perfecting his voice. During the past 2 times I've seen trivium Paulo's mix was way louder than Matt's which made it so easy to hear how out of key he was. Even Matt kept darting his look at Paulo hinting, "what the fuck are you doing!??"
So Matt still did the old screaming method just for the record ? Would be great if he could use a method thats not hurting him relating to future plans. I'm doing a training for this technique at the moment just for my interest.
1:00 - Yeeeeeeah hate to say it, but the drums on the last record did sound pretty plain/simple. Silence in the Snow is probably my least favorite Trivium record. Some of the songs just sound like Breaking Benjamin post grunge, rather than extreme metal. But Sin & The Sentence is a perfect return to form.
I fucking knew they didnt do the screams because of Matt, but they kept bullshitting us that they "dont want to and they dont make sense". Well, at least they are back.
hey, I am french student and juste, i love you, i love your song, i can do a little work for translate but that's cool, juste it's crasy a talk about you to my friends all time x) just good job
Will they keep Alex? As their drummer for next album or get rid of him too? I really love the new drummer, if they get rid of him, I’ll be pretty disappointed....
That last scream. 🤘
I came
I can't recognize that scream in any song of the album, maybe one of the songs that they'll drop this year??
no man, those screams are in the album.. you have to listen carefully. the screms before the chorus i can't listen on the song though
@@sr_jujo it would have been in "the heart from yoyr hate", the lyrics are those, but there's no scream in it :(
@@nolfred98 wrong! It's actually the title track. If you listen carefully when Matt drew out the longest "Cause you don't under stand meeeeeee!" right before the ending breakdown section, you can hear it layered beneath that much more subtly
I appreciate how transparent Trivium are in these videos.
Thanks for screaming like the old days on record man, that means so much to me - that power is unmistakable and unique
Avenged Sevenfold should do the same don't you think?

But matt don't want to fuck up his voice

Matt actually did all the background screaming on the new record, he just doesn't do it live because of it being layered.
Considering they think of Silence in the Snow as "the one-armed boxer version of Trivium", I thought that album was actually pretty fucking great!
metfan4l I actually hated it the first 10 times I heard it. Then I kept listening and it quickly became an album I listened to everyday. You have to respect what these dudes do.
I think that he meant to say that Trivium is Clean and Extreme, Silence in the Snow is just clean, like one-armed boxer.
Just makes me excited for the Sin and The Sentence when Corey said that!
A boxer with one arm can still punch you, to be fair.
Only like four track off sits
I haven't been this excited about an album since Shogun!
This is going to be fucking awesome 🤘🤘🤘
God, that high note at 2:44 is so good.
TheReaperM7 it makes me think of Bruce Dickinson!
what is that octave range?
xnake I think it's somewhere around G or G# in the 4th octave.
thanks it is G#4 but on the recording it is G4... ?
The Revancist
Last 6 seconds gave me chills.
RT Arizpe p
"No limitation like last record"..goshh shoot to Mat Madiro 😂😂😂
Well his drumming was boring at least.
I think overall he did a great job.
greenday5644 No, they definitely weren't lol
Mostly Matt not being able to scream imo...
Holy shit that last scream.....💪💪💪

Literally every single one of those isolated screams gave me goosebumps. Incredible. So glad that is going to be on the record.
That moment when you squeeze the earphone in your ear and try to extract every single part from the new songs. (Ep. 3)
Dammit you 2 every episode. Lol
"What's going on in there?"-
Matt-"Guitar center."
Lmao
I actually appreciate that the final "whatever it takes" vocal tracks ended up making it. That's a true artist to literally sacrifice his voice for an unknown amount of time to make sure this level of singing/screaming is captured on the record.
You know its a Trivium Doc if its in black and white
N·J Media Color is still expensive damn it, besides its artistic 😜
black and white with unnecessarily close close-ups :D
This is definitely the first time in a span of 3 years where Matt decided to use his old screaming technique
I need to hear more of this album, like right fucking now. Trivium is stepping back up and then some with this album.
"The Screaming Element" This should be a title for something.
0:13 that melody it´s a routine for me hahaha I do the same exercise to warm up vocals xD
I’m loving this album it’s gonna be one of their best yet!
So glad screaming is back but, please Matt, get Melissa Cross's help to master screaming without hurting yourself.
Alan Rojas I think he's used her techniques before and moved beyond them -- I remember him mentioning her methods in a video from years past
KiichiIsanu yeah iirc he worked with her leading into either Shogun or In Waves

Go read the wiki on this album, it says that the Japanese version will have a *re-recorded* version of Pillars of Serpents.
Japanese version? I thought they mentioned there was only one version and no special edition, etc.?
Cannot confirm. This is purely from the wikipedia page of the band.
The level of excitement I have for this is unreal... \m/
I have not been this excited for a metal album since 2014!

2 weeks to go! can't wait anymore to have this banger in my hands!
I mean, fair play for going all out on the screams after he blew his voice and had to cancel tours and shit. That takes balls. I like balls. Big balls
Love you guys, Matthew you're amazing keep inspiring man.

Totally stoked for the new album! Fuckin cool hearing matt scream again! Whoooo!
THE OLD SCREAM IS BACK! :D
i cant wait to hear betrayer
I hope that Ep.4 shows/talks about the affect that session of recording had on Matt's voice afterward. Album sounds great!
Aw that back pat for Alex was so cute
This album is gonna kick ass hope there's a world tour on the cards.
love you guys
The scream in the end of the vídeo, maaaaaaaan it was awesome, f#$_ckin Trivium are back!!
so awesome
Paolo must be high.. He only used "like" once or twice when he was talking.. !!!!
James M don’t worry ,Cory took over with all the “likes”
James M in last video he says "like" 25 times. ..
Yup.. I figured he wasn't high in that video, hence, the lack of imagination for other words. lol
So fucking hyped for this album!
1:55 Dear Josh, you sir are an American hero. (Shogun 2: This time with less Hetfield)
Matt Heafy: Always the emo kid at heart, and I love it.
October 20th is gonna be great!
The last scream sounded so pissed off I like it
Really curious to hear how this record will come out, cant wait!
I knew they don't like Silence in the Snow.
I knew it.
They do like it... Just because it had restrictions on it doesn't mean they don't like it.
It's not that they didn't like it, it's that their creativity was stifled due to (both) Matt's situation(s).
Awesome Trivium are back to kick all of our asses haha
After a long day of tracking vocals Matt hair looks like Edward Scissorhands. I'll be seeing y'all in Dallas December 4.
Yes.
