One thing your videos never do Dan is send me to sleep. Lots of very good points made in this video and very well presented. Having been a leisure boater for 18 years (living in a very comfortable house), when it's warm and the evenings are long, capped off by beautiful orange sunsets and the sound of birds singing, boating is unbeatable. When it's cold and wet and windy, I struggle to get motivated to visit my boat to do maintenance and of course have the choice to give it a miss. When I'm poorly or have difficult stuff going on in life, the boat isn't even on my radar. Living on a boat full time strips you of those choices and you are stuck with whatever situation you are in. I think living on a boat is a very radical step to take and takes a particular type of person to make it work. I'd love for you to make a video talking about times you had when you really struggled with boat life and how you coped. Keep up the great work Dan 😊.

Thank you for such a good comment, you raise some absolutely perfect points there about having the choice to deal with different conditions and the boat. Back before all the 2020 "stuff" kicked off, I had decided to give up the boat and was setting my life up on dry land (which didn't last long after the year that happened!) so for a couple of months I had that same feeling of sometimes seeing the "hassle" of going out to deal with the boat in the poor winter conditions.
That is a fantastic video idea suggestion too, I will see what I can come up with.

Right from the start of watching your vlogs Dan, your honesty has appealed to me. In fact so much so that you are my 'go to' when it comes to the reality of living on a narrowboat. Much appreciated. X

Good video! Have you not stayed in marinas much then?

Not really, in the old days they used to have a decent winter mooring system so I would spend 3-5 months moored on the towpath for a fee. Then in more recent times I found I would go into a marina for a couple of months over the busy summer time and then come back out for the rest of the year. Nothing really against marinas, just much prefer to be out and about!
