  • Beyond Life and Death Part 5
“What is called the realm of emptiness? There are two kinds of emptiness: first, the inner, and second, the outer. What is the interior? It refers to all the inner parts of the body, the emptiness of the inner parts, the emptiness of the body, the places of perception, the places of non-universal and non-pervasive, the places of color movement, the places of digestion of food and drink, and the places of opening; and also in the throat, in the ears, in the eyes, in the emptiness of the nose, in the emptiness of the tongue, the emptiness of the inner part of the mouth, the emptiness of the mouth and tongue, and the emptiness of the tongue's movement in the middle of the mouth, and so on, and so forth, and so forth, and so forth, and so forth. What is called the outer realm of emptiness? All the emptiness of the senses is not subjected to, not all full, not all pervasive, such as the emptiness between the branches and leaves of trees, all the emptiness in all the caves, valleys, rivers and streams, and all the emptiness in such places as these, and if they are outside the holes, they are called the outer emptiness realm. If the void realm is taken in the inner color and if the void realm is taken in the outer color, they are one and the same, and this realm is only the realm. When one observes this empty realm, all is not I, nor I, nor I, nor I. If one observes the empty realm in this way, one knows it as it is, and when one sees it as it is, one is free from desire. When one has realized this, one is not free from desire. This empty world is neither I, nor I, nor I, and has no author, no recipient. Knowing this, one's mind is free from desire.“What are the realms of consciousness? It means: the twelve elements are harmonized internally and externally; the eye sees things and the consciousness recognizes them; the ear, the nose, the tongue, the body, and the consciousness are the realms of consciousness, and the mind is the root of all.
Then the World Honored One spoke the verse:
“The Dharma is preceded by the mind, and the mind is powerful and speedy; when the mind is first moved, it is able to speak and act.
By shaking off all the evil karma, one can know the retreat from life; knowing the fruits and rewards of karma, one can attain the place of immortality.
He who can control all the roots, who is happy to benefit the living beings, and who is calm and quiet in all the roots, is a peaceful bhikkhu.
Riding on the six roots, he can kill desire and resentment, and traveling with courage and wisdom, he can reach the place of silence.
Aranyakas are contented, reclining on the ground in peace of mind, able to shake off evils like the wind dispersing heavy clouds.
Goodness in body and speech, joyfulness and good deeds, respect and respect, can destroy the devil's army.
The mind is good and not greedy; it is full of compassion; it is the path of a bhikkhu.
The realm is the cause of bondage, but if one does not love the color, etc., one reaches a place of perfect silence, where one is free from distress.
