    If you don't like practicing...or don't have much time, at least use the little time that you do have to make your emergency stops a priority. Thanks for watching.

      @@devianthousend Good question. Emergency braking is an important skill to practice. However, it is not one that is practiced every day for an hour. Practice it enough until you are comfortable stopping in a straight line at 20mph within 20 ft. Then every once in a while in order to keep it fresh. So if you ever need it, muscle memory will take over.

    I just discovered your page. I'm a fan! I just took the motorcycle class here in Ohio in October and they did not want us to do the brake and escape. They drilled in us that we should just swerve while maintaining our speed. I can see this skill being just as necessary as swerving if not more in certain situations. I wish they would have taught it. I will definitely get out and practice.

    • @BootsandJeansRiders
      @BootsandJeansRiders  4 роки тому

      Hey Charday, welcome to our channel and more importantly welcome to the motorcycle world.
      Congratulations on taking the class.
      Yes, in certain situations Break and Escape can be very useful. Just swerving while maintaining speed is a great skill to practice also. They both has its purposes on the road.

    Rich, noticed that your camera needs to be set for additional exposure (more light, on you). What the camera is sensing is that great expanse of very bright sky behind you, and the much smaller, darker you, and the camera is attempting to find a compromise exposure (what is known as "18% gray"). However, there''s an overwhelming amount of bright light behind you, and the camera exposure is "fooled". So, screw the technology of a camera, because it's not perfect, and, if you can, INCREASE it's exposure setting (a/k/a + EV or + EC) by a "stop" or two, because we want to see your purdy face more than the white clouds.
    That's "Photography 101". Well, part of it ; )
    Regards from a member of the Blue Knights, FL.
    Stay safe, brother!

      Man that an excellent explanation.I wish i could understand all that lol.
      We use a GP session the original one and there is no settings to play with. Now that I'm aware of the problem, I can only try to correct the exposure problem in post.
      Thanks for checking it out and the detailed explanation. Now I have some thing to work on.
      Stay safe.

      Boots and Jeans Riders My pleasure indeed.
      Obtain a camera with which you can adjust, manually, the exposure.
      Microphones on cameras are usually pretty bad, so use an external mic, with a muffler (a/k/a “DeAd Cat” to prevent wind noise. Best yet is to do your audio in post processing, merging the audio with the video.
      There are tons of videos re: exposure control and mic use on YT, and now is a great time to learn from them.
      Best2U,

      “Kid”, btw, will be a young 75 in two weeks.
      At age 73, for my 74th bday, I bought a Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT crotch rocket/sport bike, after a four decade hiatus from motorcycling.
      I imagine that people expect to see a 20-30 year old riding that bike - so I suppose that they are a bit surprised to see a, shall we say a “more aged” fellow when the helmet is removed. I’m the oldest in my BK club, and the only guy with a sport bike. I guess I’m mot ready for comfy cruises yet. Maybe when I get older I’ll go for a sofa on two wheels, in the meantime, I’ll just ride for the thrill.

    Good information. Would you explain more about which direction you should press on handlebars during brake and escape. Some people may not know. See ya next video.

    • @BootsandJeansRiders
      @BootsandJeansRiders  4 роки тому

      Hey Sharon. Sure I can explain.
      The direction that you press will depend on the situation as it is developing. I mostly press to the left, because if I am trying to clear a vehicle turning left in front of me. I can pass behind the vehicle, being careful not to go into on coming traffic.And the opposite goes if a vehicle is going right to left.
      It also depends on which part of the lane I'm ridding in.
      For me looking far ahead as possible is the key to seeing, and trying to predict a potential dangerous situation developing.
      Hope this help.

    Excellent video. I've blown a tire riding two up, hit pea gravel in a turn , and other things, but this is the one thing that still scares me after 50+ years of riding, in fact my only wreck happened just because of someone turning left in front of me. I even relived a few other occurrences while watching your instructions. I wish every person out there riding could watch this and then, like you said, "practice, practice, practice".

    • @BootsandJeansRiders
      @BootsandJeansRiders  4 роки тому

      Yeah a left turning vehicle is truly a scary feeling.
      I agree that everyone should practice this skill more than any other. Its definitely a potential life saving skill. "Practice, practice, practice".
      Thanks for the insightful comment. I really appreciate your support.

    Great video. I remember doing all this in both my motorcycle and Spyder classes. the spyder has absolutely amazing brakes on it. It's almost better to come to a stop than evade in a spyder, but it depends on the situation too

    • @BootsandJeansRiders
      @BootsandJeansRiders  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah I agree that stopping can be more beneficial and safer than swerving. Stopping give us less of a risk of running of the road or running into oncoming traffic.

    What about when ride a trike ?

    • @BootsandJeansRiders
      @BootsandJeansRiders  2 роки тому

      I don't know about trikes. I would guess that the stopping distance is much better on a trike. I would suggest that trike owners also practice emergency stopping and escaping.

    I just run into a sand trap🤪🤪.
    Great vid man, I used to practice a few years ago using the dead kangaroos on the side of the road as my cones. I’ve never had a car park really to do practice. So mine is always on the road.
