As a roblox developer with a game around 60-100 players, I definitely feel this way. My game got random attention back in last december of 2023, and I never thought it would get players, but I regret also having that players due to the nature of the community. My game has a lot of very well designed and scripted stuff, but the community makes me want to quit it. Most of those people are children that constantly asking "what's the next update" or just "pls mod". Some of them even ASK when's the next update the day a update happens. Some of those people are also really annoying and it makes me so demotivated that I don't feel like even joining my game. I also have been accused multiple times of fake allegations but i'm not even above 17 and some people think they are real. On the other hand, I have been releasing less and less updates from time to time due to the depression I have to deal with. And it definitely feels very depressing to see how the platform has become, the games aren't creative anymore, they lack the passion Roblox used to have back then. It doesn't feel surprising anymore nor funny. It's gotten to the point where it's bland and irritating.
I agree with you! If you want I can help you with engaging your community, trust me I have amazing leadership trait and willingness to transform person viewing.

This is so true. When I see one of my favorite games, "In Plain Sight 2", have less servers than "Pomni Squirrel Fart for UGC" I really want to uninstall.
It really depends on the fanbase, like in tsb. The fanbase sent literal death threats to a guy who sent a video of him testing an upcoming update to somebody else so they could view it, and that somebody else sent it to a friend who leaked it. Because people saw the guy's avatar in the video, they thought it was him, and immediately got enraged as the leaked footage demotivated the lead dev and delayed the update. Causing people to be mad and send death threats.
There is depression and then there is being a roblox game developer. Cash grabs and generic template anime games (battlegrounds and gpo copies) are a living cancer.
This is why i always find more interest in roblox games that has tons of effort poured into it by the dev instead of the same low quality games people make to make money
Im not a dev, but I can definitely see how demotivating it is to see a random RNG slop game with AI generated thumbnails have more players than high quality and more enjoyable games. There are so many other hidden gems on the platform that Roblox gotta shed more light on, here are some examples: -Ready To Act (FPS game based off Ready Or Not) -Zom-B-Fied! (Zombie shooter with retro style design) -Parabellum: Echoes of Trinity (COD inspired and has a campaign) -Whizzbang (slow paced WW1 PVE game). Now some of these might sound boring, but they’re just 10x better than standing still and clicking a button over and over to get some random effects on your avatar and thats it. Anyway, thats my “yap” session.
most happiest roblox dev is actually the one dev that hires devs for his games to earn only give a worse amount back to the helpers (not just talking about preston or any rng game that has already been invented over 10k times)
There are also small Roblox UA-camrs with only 3k views that talk about REALLY niche games. Sometimes, you can also find niche / underrated games yourself if you keep searching. But thanks for the recommendation, I’ll try out those two!
I imagine thats why so many game devs are getting to do all theese weird stuff such as becoming pdf filed (if yk what I mean) because they just work so hard for nothing their minds go insane and just start doing anything it desires, even if it's wrong
As a game developer, I would never become a pdf file, doing stuff to underdeveloped children is so wrong and terrible. I've seen a lot of people exposing pdf files that make Roblox games, most of them are nerds who never go outside or shower. However, frustration over your game failing doesn't mean you become mentally unstable, unless you dont go outside. Even though all my games are dead, I don't take the emotions serious. People like AlvinBlox are ordinary people like me. Basically my childhood has been be attempting to make games for years, and sometimes I would get frustrated as a kid, but I was the nicest kid at my school and I had respect for everyone, Christianity probably plays a part. I have made a lot of games that flop, it's a part of the process and I don't really give a sh*t lol. My conclusion: Most devs are mentally stable and ordinary people like me, although it is pretty rare they have limits to their screentime lol.
As an ex roblox dev this is true All these cash-grab rng games making a bag with absolutely no effort makes me really demotivated and i even quit developing games cause of it
This reminds me a lot of the PHIGHTING! Community, though only a portion, not the whole bunch. A single update can literally tear your whole game apart, and sometimes there are some bad choices, but people dogpile onto the creators so much for either mistakes, etc. Some even have gotten mad over the fact there was a literal *dialogue* change to most characters within the game; some of it being the fact it's ruined a ship. I feel bad for them because there's only 3 people working on the game - developer, concept design/modeller/artist, and coder. They all work onto the lore of the game, which they try their hardest to work on as well and make sure it's just right. Another game I could also bring into light: Evade. Evade literally was supposed to update a while back ago, but people *hated* it because of some new things; new mobility, etc. They *hated* it so bad that the update has now been split into two bits, but even then no one is happy. Just recently for Halloween, it had been updated, but a lot of people disliked it for similar reasons; weird movements etc. Even though they were the *same* people asking for an update, yet they get it and their disappointed. I'm pretty sure there's only a few developers/creators on this game as well. Honestly, it's pretty sad tbh.
i was working on a effort game where you fight as tv characters against stuff when i was looking at top pages and i see Gyatt simulator Ride your friends and freaky prison line and my game has 20k visits
Well, I don't do cashgrab games but I'm not depressed, haha. But I get it, most devs just hate their life lol. But I have made so many flopped games that I lost count, yet I never become frustrated, I hope other REAL devs will not be as depressed as this dude in the video.
It’s always a bad day, when it comes to devs losing their motivation, this is why they treated the developers with such respect, by having a donation, salaries , and their owner gave their motivation and what they needed
I swear this would be sometimes me at some point whenever I come back home demotivated to work on any of my games that I need to finish while there would be a RNG cash grabbing game that has millions of players / childern while devs that are making games with a bunch of effort and orignal content put into it going to waste Overall If you're a Dev I would just say keep going and try to make the best of it whether if its fun making it or not because most of the games I make with my friends are just fun projects and stuff like that.
the projects im working on would be alot easier with other ppl's help, sadly barely any of my friends are devs and the two that are devs is my irl friend who uses youtube tutorials and free models yet calls himself a "game developer" and the other one used ai generated scripts last time we worked on a game together. being a solo dev sucks, you have 6 ppl in your community and yet its still stressful to make them all happy with a new update. even worse if the update is large. the longer it takes. the more impatient they get.
I started working on a Rake game with free models but also some other knowledge (eg. adding the Classic Edition animations to the rake instead of the crappy Escape Jeff the Killer Game ones and actual animations for the player). The next thing i gotta do is to just add a thumbnail to it.
i feel like making a remake of "The Emu war, 1932" and actually remastering it altogether, but i dont have the skills to execute the plan. ill list some of my ideas and other peoples ideas (those i played with in the emu game) emus coming in mobs bushes where the emus cant see you you get pushed out of bushes after a minute "heat" effect may be added in some difficulties different modes, siege, classic, and smart emus siege is where you protect emu from crops classic is just the base mode, open world, cars, emu chase you, kill emu. smart emus isnt an AI upgrade, a few select players will be emus and can respawn for 5 lives (also emus are buffed with dmg and health boosted) dialouge when dying, or emus coming slim chance of recon plane counting all the emus and radios it list MIGHT be updated
When you build and manage a game that is very fun and entertaining for everyone, you get not even 1k players just to see "[FREE UGC!!] FIND THE SKIBIDI PREGNANT OBBY POMNI WHATEVER THE FUCK'S IN THE TITLE" gets thousands of players:
Oh yeah soo relatable. As a dev, I hate seeing real games be overtaken by some stupid game like PET SIM. It really sucks and Roblox gives 0 sh*ts. But hey, at least some real games do gain many players, like Arsenal is actually a decent game.
Roblox is facing a new era where quality, passion, effort and love wont make a game popular but rather follow the same stupid simulator and rng trend the only thing i can say about this new terrible era is "Big brother is watching"
How to NOT be a developer 101 #1: Don't leak your stuff online or privately because the person you're talking to is not trustable. #2: Don't make an embarrassing moment in your game or online. #3: Quit.
I was gonna say real but then I realized. I'm not depressed because my game doesn't get players, it's because I'm a fucking loser irl. Anyway, if you're not a loser like me and also suffer from this BS keep in mind. *"If your game isn't a cash-grab, then you're creating something new, which means your ideas and designs are coming to life. Be happy that you're able to channel them into a game rather than just dream, and fuck those who criticize it because it's YOUR game and YOUR ideas. You're not a slave to any player or critic."* If your game gets 10, 5, or hell, even 0 players, it doesn't matter, because if you're truly making art, then you don't need a whole audience to applaud your every move.
@@ArtucoDev thats true, ive also been making games but my motivation is dwindling because nobody appreciates the work i put hours of my day in, but im not gonna give up.
I am a roblox game dev, and I am actually happy... sometimes... roblox is something you shouldn't learn, its a very good game engine but the way how roblox recommendation system works, makes it so if you make a real game with a "soul" you most likely don't even get promoted in any way other than spending robux on sponsor and things like that. Roblox just wants money. that's how a company works. I already did almost switch to something else, like haxe or something, roblox is fucked. Also when you just see a stupid RNG game that gets more visits than your game that's not a crash grab, that's demotivating, the same how Pixcyl said.
It depends on what kind of game you are making, if your game has micro transactions (don't pay to win) like costumes and stuff that will gain you some profit, make small updates that make community happy, make sneak peaks and who knows, maybe things will turn out differently

over the four years I've been hopping dev teams when I feel it on occasion, not a single one of them works out in the end for me to get any profit
I animate for some games but they're either passion projects that don't make money, or games that have not been released due to annoying circumstances (*cough cough* getting ghosted by programmers the whole time on a game that's been WIP for 3 fucking years)
ive witnessed dev teams crumble from the smallest things like owners being immature manchildren causing our entire team to fall apart, to betrayal like getting dumped by our own dev team even after animating tens of hundreds of individual animations, to the borderline illegal and disgusting vile acts against god like the owner being an actual groomer or some programmer sending gore in public chat
the roblox dev industry is an absolute mess and it's not even roblox-- it's straight up the community itself
and sometimes I question why I started animating in roblox but oh well

@@exursix yeah man, what you say it’s honestly well said. I am almost a full-stack developer, and I have about 4 years of experience. As soon as I heard that Roblox Studio was a thing, I was intrigued. During the first year or so I went around looking for help, and as my experience grew, I started to help as many as I can, I didn’t really care about pay (I might have to now but not relevant). However honestly, I can’t help everyone because of how messed up they are. Roblox’s owner, the face of Roblox, is bad. He thinks that Erik Cassel would be proud of the current Roblox but I’m definitely sure he wouldn’t. Ngl we need to do something, it’s getting really messed up now.

Im not a dev, but I can definitely see how demotivating it is to see a random RNG slop game with AI generated thumbnails have more players than high quality and more enjoyable games. There are so many other hidden gems on the platform that Roblox gotta shed more light on, here are some examples:
-Ready To Act (FPS game based off Ready Or Not)
-Zom-B-Fied! (Zombie shooter with retro style design)
-Parabellum: Echoes of Trinity (COD inspired and has a campaign)
-Whizzbang (slow paced WW1 PVE game).

This is why I have a playlist of youtube videos that talk about underrated roblox games
They all steal the same games from each other. Play doomed alpha 2 or super bloxers they are actually underrated.
There are also small Roblox UA-camrs with only 3k views that talk about REALLY niche games. Sometimes, you can also find niche / underrated games yourself if you keep searching. But thanks for the recommendation, I’ll try out those two!

I imagine thats why so many game devs are getting to do all theese weird stuff such as becoming pdf filed (if yk what I mean)
because they just work so hard for nothing their minds go insane and just start doing anything it desires, even if it's wrong

It’s always a bad day, when it comes to devs losing their motivation, this is why they treated the developers with such respect, by having a donation, salaries , and their owner gave their motivation and what they needed
I swear this would be sometimes me at some point whenever I come back home demotivated to work on any of my games that I need to finish while there would be a RNG cash grabbing game that has millions of players / childern while devs that are making games with a bunch of effort and orignal content put into it going to waste
Overall If you're a Dev I would just say keep going and try to make the best of it whether if its fun making it or not because most of the games I make with my friends are just fun projects and stuff like that.
i use to be hooked onto sols rng like 6 months ago but i quit that shi and played other games
the projects im working on would be alot easier with other ppl's help, sadly barely any of my friends are devs and the two that are devs is my irl friend who uses youtube tutorials and free models yet calls himself a "game developer" and the other one used ai generated scripts last time we worked on a game together. being a solo dev sucks, you have 6 ppl in your community and yet its still stressful to make them all happy with a new update. even worse if the update is large. the longer it takes. the more impatient they get.
