  • Another ride done. And what a ride!
    Scotland delivered on every front for this one from minimal midges to stunning weather.
    Just to remind us that we are but mere mortals we got a decent dose of rain for the last couple of hours but nothing that could dampen our spirits.
    I only hope that it isn't too long before I get back to this part of the world for another trip!

    Great collection of videos detailing the Cairngorm loop(s). I have seen quite a few and I must agree the inner loop is non starter unless you are a masochist! I’ve done a fair bit of it on foot and by bike over the years and I’m hoping to get up there this autumn and give it a go. I also plan to add an additional day in, by going via Ballater and then coming up Glen Muick and over to Balmoral before cutting through the estate to Braemar (effectively missing out the Cullardoch climb in favour of the extra day). As always, Thanks for sharing.

      It is nice to say you have ticked off a named route but it isn't worth suffering for. I'm a big fan riding your own ride and if that means making edits to a route then so be it.

    I’ve started watching more and more videos like this and it fills me with me with a sense of adventure to try it when life returns to normal.
    But I have a question, after you have finished these epic adventures do you have any sense of feeling “down” because it’s finished? Or does the “high” remain? Thinking and planning the next adventure?

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  2 дні тому +1

      Sometimes there is a post ride slump. Especially after longer rides of several weeks or more or after rides that have taken a lot of planning.
      It depends what you are coming back to as well. If the ride is over and that's it, no chance of another for a year then you might feel worse than if you can come back and immediately start planning the next one (this is my preferred cure)

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Місяць тому +2

      It is pretty bare in many places. I think it's a very manmade landscape after centuries of management.
      In lots of places they are starting to replant native trees but it's a big job that involves a lot of fencing and control of deer.
      The town we started and ended at is called Aviemore. It's a great base for any adventures in the area

      It's a weird thing talking to camera. It took me a long time to get comfy with it and I'd never want to inflict it on anyone who wasn't up for it. I try very hard to make sure the rides are all about the ride and not about making a video so the chat happens when it happens.

    • @JethroJessop

      We wanted to take the sleeper train but it would have been quite a lot more expensive and would have meant both of us getting to London which is a mission in itself.
      Then the dates we wanted were requiring bikes to be dismantled and bagged and it was just all too much.
      I would always travel by train as my first choice but it is always so expensive and a hassle with a bike. It's a great pity and a missed opportunity I think.

      @@kevindean9613 there is a daily direct train from Kings Cross to Aviemore which takes about seven or eight hours. Like most UK trains bike spaces are limited and I have heard (but don’t know for sure) that the bike spaces on the Azuma trains aren’t the best design, especially for bikes with large width tyres. Nice train journey though from a scenery point of view north of Newcastle

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  Місяць тому +1

      @@kevindean9613 if you can spring for a bed on the sleeper it is the absolute best way to ge to Scotland. Drops off in all the right places and usually has good bike spaces.
      It isn't cheap though.
      Getting a seat only ticket is much more affordable but not very comfy.
