Good morning LT. I buy & sell on eBay too. I don't mind the auctions because sometimes you can get a good deal on notes. 1st thing I look for is shipping cost, if it's over $4.50 I move on, then the seller rating. Be leery of people with low ratings or sales. Then set your max limit on what you are willing to pay and wait. I've also purchased via 'buy it now' if I think it's a good deal. For anyone reading this if your new to the hobby, do your homework first before you buy. There are a lot of scammers out there.

      Good morning brother.
Great points. I concur with all. Every part except the auctions 😊😊😊. Different folks, different strokes. Hey if it ain't broken, don't fix it. I would imagine you would find some good deals on notes via auctions, though. I'm also on board with the S&H cost too.
Well ok. I guess I'm purchasing right then 😮😅😊...
      Talk to you soon brother...

Hey man always loving the videos. I start with my local bank tellers and build a professional relationship and tell them can they look out for odd coins and bills nothing beats face value purchase. Second my local coin store because notes are cheaper for two reasons the dealer have merchandise they got to move and will haggle and second notes that are not on the high end can be purchase way cheaper than auctions, using eBay for example. Third with caution ask people if they old money they want to sell that could have been handed down from older family members. Finally Ebay or other social media sites.

What's up brother. Thanks for proposing your inquiry to me, which led to this episode.
I see you have a whole checklist that you follow regarding building your collection. Your first step for me just isn't happening. My primary bank is trash, and other banks, credit unions aren't any better. The do not have any thing I would consider exotic, or rare (Series Year 1996). Everytime I ask the teller/ manager they look at me like I'm crazy. It's painfully obvious that they know nothing of numismatics. They simply work in a bank. I would've thought that they would have some knowledge of currency, but no. They do not.
Again thanks for the inspiration. This one is for you. See you next Tuesday...

I haven't bought from eBay or auction sites yet, but am keeping that open as a potential option later. Yeah, I buy from locals when I can, but also purchase from Apmex frequently. With Apmex, it is kind of an adventure for me, as you might not be buying the note shown, but are purchasing based on grade of notes. Ideally, I would be frequenting coin and currency shops, if my area actually had them, but I live in a pretty dry area as far as that is concerned. The local pawn shop is the closest thing in my area, but they only get so much currency, and mostly the common $2s for Legal Tenders.
Nice to see how you buy from eBay, like you, I have no interest in the auction side of it, maybe when I am retired in about 30 years.

C.O.T.C Ebay is the way to go. Even if you don't purchase, just peruse through. Just looking can give ideas for future numismatic pieces and let you know how affordable, or expensive the hobby could really be. I see new numismatic pieces all the time (coins, and currency).
I don't know about purchasing like notes. I'd rather purchase the note that I actually looked at, not a close facsimile.
Just look on Ebay and tell me what you think. Again it's a great source for all things numismatics. That's where I saw M.P.C (Military Payment Certificates). I'll be looking into those soon...

I have often used eBay for checking sold listing, especially with 📼 collecting. I just know that with Apmex, if I purchase over $200, there is no shipping and handling, just the sales tax. I will likely consider eBay one day, but for now, I am fine with my current choices of finding notes, I like not dealing with individual sellers and really like just having one package and one delivery date vs as an example 5 notes from 5 sellers and 5 packages in the system.

I always check the 'sold' banknotes before I bid or buy anything on Ebay.

Interesting. I never did that. What's the significance of checking the sold items???

    • @waynemaas7517

I check the 'sold' banknotes for a certain type or denomination to see what other people paid for the same or similar item within the last 30-60 days. That gives me a range of prices for me to gauge how much I might want to pay for that banknote. As you know prices can vary quite a lot on any given item. Reviewing the 'sold' list keeps me from paying too much for a banknote.

Sometimes I will add a note to my watch list. Often times the seller will send a 5-10% discount just for “watching” the note.

Side note, are you still collection coins and have you ever thought of collecting old bank checks? I collect anything tied to currency even old mint bags. LOL

Yes. Yes. And yes. I recently purchased some pretty eccentric numismatic pieces. I want to research a bit more and gather some more knowledge about, so that I can speak with some level of intelligence regarding the subject.
I'm going to focus a little more, not much on coins. I'm going to purchase whole sets of certain coins that catch my eye. I would assume that they are pretty basic and not to exotic if they're on my radar. I'm not a heavy coin guy at all. I'm also looking at dedicating more time to different numismatic pieces (Money satchels, bank checks etc...) in the future. And I have some pretty unique ideas on branding/ promoting Legaltender that I'm excited to expand upon. Stay tuned and be apart of the journey.
      Talk to you soon brother...

That's correct. An added discount can make the difference between a potential sell, or having your note seat for longer...
