@@sloppynyuszi Come on, let's be real, the tighter race for third is between McLaren and Ferrari, not Lando for third in the driver's championship. Lando himself fully expects not to be third by the end of the season. I don't buy that at all for justification of their strategy today. Daniel was better in qualifying, had a good start, good race pace -- until it was unraveled for a poor strategy that did the team no real favors.
@@formula415 the fact that on the odd occasion Danny Ric can be slightly up to speed with Lando is a disappointing state. And if he didn’t come dead last in Q3 (gio and the Alpines should have been the bare minimum, to beat) and honestly based on how he didn’t let Max’s debut at red bull get to him and beat him in two seasons out of 3 together, getting over the initial hurdles at Renault beating the Hulk and dominating Ocon. I thought It was a great race! Lots of pressure and strategy at the front and Perez charging through the midfield was awesome. So many unknowns with a “new” track, tension the whole way!
Max and Lewis were within 4 seconds for most of the race, NOT saving tires. Howmuch more of a fight do you want? We have seen races were the leader build up a free pitstop window, those were boring, this wasnt.
It's a *beautiful* track. Love how it flows like a river, like it's just a part of the environment. F3 racing was lots of fun. F1 was sleep enducing. Can't wait for the new regs, hope it'll even out the field or at least lead to more passing
This was the first race I’ve been able to watch all season and I thought it was a banger (might be biased because of that fact but oh well). I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and couldn’t look away
I liked the race itself. Such a cool ass track with the banking and the sense of speed was so cool. If the 2022 cars workout it will definitely be a highlight of the schedule. Quali is also awesome
Man, I know he really loves Russell, but over the course of all videos Matt just comes across unnecessarily harsh towards Bottas moreso than any other driver on the grid. He constantly bashes him for stuff he breezes past with other drivers. He literally complimented Checo in this video, even though it was horrendous for Redbull. Bottas helped Lewis close the 3.3 second gap to Verstappen to 0.7 or so- what more could he have done when he was sliding everywhere on 32 lap old softs vs Verstappen's new tyres. Comparing it to Alonso in Hungary is ridiculous.
everyone was saying this race was boring, but this was one of the best races this season. amazing strategy battle, stunning overtakes from Perez and Norris
How was this race one of the best races? The top positions ended like they started, the only meaningful overtakes were from Perez and Alonso. Lewis got to 1,2 sec from verstappen and couldn't get any closer because of dirty air, eventually his tyres crapped out.
@@mazdaroadster-mx5 Buddy I was watching Lauda, Prost, Senna and Mansell live back in the day. If you think this was one of the best races you don't know what Formula 1 is. No proper fighting for the top positions. Cheers.

Lewis during the press conference: "...so if Valtteri gets it or I get it, it doesn't really make a huge difference." Also Lewis during the race: "I NEED THAT EXTRA POINT"
Obviously that point makes a bigger difference for Lewis as he can actually win this championship, Bottas does not. Constructors it obviously doesnt matter.
I find strategy battles entertaining and I thought it was really good. Racing isn't all about overtaking so I like to have certain tracks where it is a lot more about driver pace and strategy.
EXACTLY!!!, some people just want crashes , and carnage, they will never be satisfied with anything , but I enjoyed it, strategy battle, lewis catching up max and then loosing it, it was interesting for me, I didn't sleep at all
I love strategy races, they are much more rewarding for long time followers of the sport. I always look at these races as a chess game and like to make predictions based on the information on screen. Talking about information on screen, the tire degradation info is very poor and most of the time incorrect. You can just have a look at the interval and see who is struggling most.
This race was AWESOME. The different tyres, stategies, Red Bull learning from past mistakes and literally just shoving Mercedes' strategy back in their faces. Fun track. What wasn't there to enjoy
I actually liked the race a lot, the strategies were great, redbull having to react quickly. And then at the end when you thought it was all over hamilton kept pushing and keeping the pressure on verstappen. At the same time we had perez’s and norris’ comeback and the alonso start and at the end the fight with sainz. AAAND Bottas with the huge middle finger to mercedes at the end of the race too. Not the best race ever, but not boring either.
Was everyone watching a different race? It was fantastic, there was action everywhere the front was strategically Amazing. The midfield fight was brilliant and wheel to wheel battles everywhere. We can’t have a silverstone or Hungary every race, like wtf wtf1
@@JB22. Matt did make the point that we have had some crazy races this season, but I think the real fans of the sport found it to be brilliant. Max isn't letting this lead go now. Remember, Lewis hasn't beaten Max on merit since Spain. If Lewis doesn't beat him in Monza; the title-fight is probably over.
Imagine Perez not locking up so bad at early lap... Could it be p6 looking at race result he's pretty much 0.3 behind sainz after Alonso successfully overtake sainz on last lap
I wasn't bored at all. I was pacing back and forth the whole time but I'm a Max fan so I was anxious and wanted him to win. Not knowing which strategy would be best kept it interesting.
Everyone saying Perez passing slower cars isn't that great, remember, if Bottas was at the back u can be sure that is where he will end the race, specially at this track LOL
What we Dutchies are good at, is sticking our face in that tiny last spot of sunlight right behind you. The PLANT was enjoying it :)) We find the light, no matter how small ;-) Thank you for a very entertaining episode.
There were many interesting situations, the broadcast just missed a boatload of them. There were more overtakes and attempts than what monaco sees in 5 years.
The first laps were so awesome. Seeing the cars wheel to wheel two and three wide storming at corners. Flying high through the banking and shooting down like rockets. Just wow. After the cars settled a bit, it was a nice rest for the heartrate. The rest was good, not boring but a bit old fashioned waiting for the main action. Pitstops spiked the hype, and the dozen or so laps before Bottas final pitstop was spicy strategy and pace wise. All in all a very decent race while enjoying those incredible machines being catapulted through incredible twists and turns. The new standard for track design is found in this blend of old school and daring concept at Zandvoort. And Matt: not "make the track wider", but the make cars smaller. Back to lean and mean, instead of obesitas monsters.
The flares where neatly hidden in bags, trust me 😂. Also we all laughed at the orange 🧡 everything and everywhere. 😂. Next year I'll see you at Zandvoort
@wtf1 I’ve met and fistbump Matt in the crowds yesterday, behind the grandstand, he was easy to find, cause he was in red in the sea of orange :) was so nice to see ya around!
I thought the race was like Monaco ... without the glitz, glamour, history, and walls. The commentators described the track as a rollercoaster, so they should just install rails and line everybody up according to their qualifying results. In fact, it was like the Belgian GP but I wasted less of my Sunday watching it and they got full points this time for their qualifying performance.
The race was pretty good. More focus on the strategic side this time (which perhaps came across better on TV, than on the stands), but plenty of action nonetheless and spectacular shots of the cars even when they weren’t overtaking.
I thought the race was epic. But hey, I'm a Verstappen fan, so I've been on the edge of my seat the whole race. One small mistake and he's out. I understand if you support Vettel, or Ocon, the race was probably less exciting. But I thought it was great. There were actually quite some overtaking moments at places where I didn't expect it. And every overtake could only be done with a great pair of big balls. I loved the race. To me it was nothing like Monaco. Not at all.
I thought the race was average, which we should remember is still pretty decent. There was enough on track action and strategy to keep things interesting up front and in the mid field, and the track itself was amazing to look at and just see F1 cars going round. Overall a worthy GP I think. Was it the best? No. But it was solid.
I'm a Max fan and was filled with nervous energy and terrified the whole race. Found it extremely exciting, but yes I guess it would be boring if you're a Leclerc fan.
Not dissing max or whatever but you have to admit he was quite lucky this race, especially with traffic (and mercedes messing up with their pit strategy)
The different lines possible through corners, the banking, the high speed corners. I liked the race a lot. There was more overtaking than expected in different corners than expected, and the drivers also used different lines through corners, I liked it a lot. I mean Alonso in lap 1 corner 3 was epic.
My favourite race this season. After a long vacation and a disappointing spa this was just brilliant. Albeit Hungary may take the best race of the season as well and maybe Azerbaijan. It was f***’n amazing. I even watched the F3 races which I normally do not do. For a track where passing is hard it proved battles are short sweat and great. Zandvoort did not disappoint. I hope F1 is able to keep this track on its calendar from now on
Damn, another example of Matt’s bias against Checo. He just kept downplaying his performance and ignoring the fact Red Bull screwed Checo in qualifying.
Meanwhile off camera....... Randoms walking past Matt while he is doing the race run down and not having a glue what he is doing. "Why is he shouting at himself" 😂😂😂😂
I quite liked the race, and i have to revise my opinion about the circuit: it's awesome. Like a roller coaster, that sweeping turn 3 is bonkers, and even though this was supposed to be Monaco 2.0 i saw quite a bit of overtaking. Crazy how Max coped with the pressure and i loved the fans applauding Lewis at the end. Great stuff, great atmosphere, and seeing Max on the top step wth the Dutch flag with the national anthem playing brought little tears of happiness. Awesome stuff.

This is a disappointing year.
I want him to do well, but it looked like they were on for 9 and 10th finish at best and they rather Lando in front. Perez just destroyed that plan.
Zandvoort was very interesting. The track is almost like a stadium track. As an American, it definitely was appealing to watch F1 cars hit some banked turns.
All I thought about the race was if I had made a drinking game out of Lewis complaining about the tires I wouldn’t have been awake to see Max win
People are overreacting, he only started complaining in lap 5
One of the first GP's this year where I didn't feel like I had to take a nap between the start and the finish. Honestly one of the best races we've seen this season
You wanted to take a nap at Imola, France, Silverstone and Hungary? More than in zanvoort?
But yes zanvoort was a good race, I loved it
Man, the green screen provides a massive sense of 3D realism to Matt and his surroundings, insane technology.
The race was pretty decent. The atmosphere and strat battle were great
"They are so fast man!" gave me "they race me so hard" vibes ngl
But one got his career ruined a bit with it and still gets comments about it on every single occasion, and the other whines so much people will have forgotten by next week 🙄🙄
Matt: " i heard lewis was complaining a lot on the radio"
Me: must have been a race day.
The two-stops of HAM and VER caught my attention during the race, especially when VER reacted to HAM's second stop for Hard tires.
personally i don’t see how the race WASNT interesting just cause there weren’t a HUGE amount of close battles and whatnot, the strat battle between Mercedes and RB kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and even with TWO mercedes behind him, the Dutchman gets the top step of the podium once again, congrats Max and lets keep up the momentum!
It's weird how people don't consider any overtaking or close battles, unless it's for the lead.
Speaking facts
beacuse after the first corner seeing the pace advantage of max, it was quite clear who was going to win the race as long as rebull dont make any mistakes which they didnt
@@mrguest3749 As a dutchman myself, I am still always on the edge of my seat when Max is driving in front. As for the last couple of years, you never know when the Honda engine just decides to stop working. Honda did such a great job this year with the entire power train, however i'm still shitting my pants every race.
@@jochie18 RIGHT???? I thought i was the only one😂

Only reason he keeps having this charge is cause he doesn’t do well in qualifying

Why is he in the back to begin with?

MVP flat spotting hard tires on lap 10?
The race wasn't incredible overall but let me state this: Zandvoort is one of the most charming tracks I've ever seen. Probably the atmosphere helped a ton as well.
True. It's like Monaco. We gotta enjoy quali. But the end was great with fireworks and Max smiling and happy
@@michaela9967 Kinda but it is miles better than Monaco. In terms of overtaking. And personally corners a lot more fun to watch.
@@michaela9967 much better the monaco, the race was good but it looked average because of all the crazy races we already had, this was a normal race on a race track
It was solid 7.5/10. Strat battles with mid fields overtakes.
Ppl who said the race was boring are nothing but crashhoes.
No fight for the lead??? Well, yes, but... watching and hearing Hamilton's desperation (and later on, resignation) over not being able to catch up to Max was priceless :)
1.25 in Moring I stay awake just to watch this the beat series ever 💜❤
It's 8:25 AM for me XD
Big love
Lets gooo 4 in the morning
2.25 local time for Matt, that's some commitment
2:42 here
I thought It was a great race!
Well stated
No it doesn't
The fact that the two top teams basically lapped the entire field... godamn that's just something that needs to change.
@@rustilldown7 its not only the teams car, its the drivers to, max and lewis are this year a league off it alone, that speed is insane
It was not sleeping enducing, i as a max fan was the hole time on the tip of my seat to watch
Cuz Perez got fucked in Quali and RB used that as an opportunity to change key parts? RB and Perez did a good recovery of that situation
British Bias
I started bawling when Hamilton said "I cant race on these tyres" on lap 5-6
Man this series has become 80% you tell us what happened in the race we just watched and 20% memes
everyone was saying this race was boring, but this was one of the best races this season. amazing strategy battle, stunning overtakes from Perez and Norris
What? Huh?
@@k1ngcab00se excellent critique of my comment
How was this race one of the best races?
The top positions ended like they started, the only meaningful overtakes were from Perez and Alonso.
Lewis got to 1,2 sec from verstappen and couldn't get any closer because of dirty air, eventually his tyres crapped out.
@@andresilvasophisma watch some old F1 seasons buddy. it's clear you're young
@@mazdaroadster-mx5 Buddy I was watching Lauda, Prost, Senna and Mansell live back in the day.
If you think this was one of the best races you don't know what Formula 1 is.
No proper fighting for the top positions.
Cheers.
the strategy battle of the 2 Mercedes vs Max was really interesting to watch and there were more on track overtakes than I thought there would be so I'd say the race was better than I expected it to be and I'm really looking forward to next year with the new regulations
Lewis during the press conference: "...so if Valtteri gets it or I get it, it doesn't really make a huge difference."
Also Lewis during the race: "I NEED THAT EXTRA POINT"
He meant in the constructors. Obviously makes a slight difference in the drivers championship, but not much.
Obviously that point makes a bigger difference for Lewis as he can actually win this championship, Bottas does not. Constructors it obviously doesnt matter.
Loved that race. Great strategy battle, amazing race circuit, drivers pushing every lap. 8/10 race
After Max's tire blow out, every race where he is leading is somewhat interesting to watch lol.
It was the first race I watched live. I thought it was thoroughly entertaining.
Welcome to f1
This race was AWESOME. The different tyres, stategies, Red Bull learning from past mistakes and literally just shoving Mercedes' strategy back in their faces. Fun track. What wasn't there to enjoy
Hamilton: I need that 1 point guys
Bottas: I missed the part where that's my problem
Latifi’s move on Mazepin was rather neat tho
We've been spoilt, I enjoyed this race soo much
as a checo fan I really enjoyed this race. Probably a fight for 3rd could of been more enterteaining
He took advantage of the PU penalty
Standing Matt Energy >> Sitting Matt Energy
I know, I was surprised to see that so many people found it boring
@@JB22. Matt did make the point that we have had some crazy races this season, but I think the real fans of the sport found it to be brilliant. I’m a massive Hamilton fan but Verstappen today was world class and unbeatable and the calmness he showed with Bottas was chefs kiss worthy. Hamilton was again world class behind him though.
I think the broadcasting just had a howler not showing the many exciting moments that happened during the race
@@funguy873 yeah but I watched the same race, yeah there were blunders but in general the strategy etc was brilliant.
I liked the race. It's great to see Max won at his home track.
Yes it meant i stayed up till 1am but hey it was worth it!
Max isn't letting this lead go now. Remember, Lewis hasn't beaten Max on merit since Spain. If Lewis doesn't beat him in Monza; the title-fight is probably over.
Don't forget he can call in and ask for the fastest lap and get it
Idk max still has to take an engine penalty at some point this season
The cars looked amazing going around that track. The racing wasn't great - 4 stars most years but 3 or 2 stars by the standards of this year
Fun fact: They actually play the Super Max by Pitstop Boys before the formation lap and race starts after the build up
Max put on a master class, beat both Mercedes and took pole without DRS.
Great race tbh. I really enjoyed the whole lot.
Great to see Russell back in 17th where he belongs as well! 👌🏼
Great video as always Matt. Thanks for the great content and the amazing podcasts. :)
Imagine Perez not locking up so bad at early lap... Could it be p6 looking at race result he's pretty much 0.3 behind sainz after Alonso successfully overtake sainz on last lap
Locking up every lap? He did it once and that was because mazepin was moving underbraking what is really dangerous
@@helixyt5792 yea once and big one tho, make flat spot and have to pit really early
Love you guys, this made every single one of my race days, thanks 😊
I wasn't bored at all. I was pacing back and forth the whole time but I'm a Max fan so I was anxious and wanted him to win. Not knowing which strategy would be best kept it interesting.
Everyone saying Perez passing slower cars isn't that great, remember, if Bottas was at the back u can be sure that is where he will end the race, specially at this track LOL
What we Dutchies are good at, is sticking our face in that tiny last spot of sunlight right behind you. The PLANT was enjoying it :))
We find the light, no matter how small ;-)
Thank you for a very entertaining episode.
The thing about the banking that makes them great; besides looking crazy, is that they make the outside line much more viable than on a flat turn
AWS needs to put up a graphic with Lewis's tyres at the start of the race at 10% remaining life :D :D :D
There were many interesting situations, the broadcast just missed a boatload of them. There were more overtakes and attempts than what monaco sees in 5 years.
Yes it really was all down to the broadcast, it was terrible, almost as bad as Monaco.
I thought the race was fantastic. Great battles at the back. Nice strategy, very aesthetic corners. All in all good fun
The flares where neatly hidden in bags, trust me 😂. Also we all laughed at the orange 🧡 everything and everywhere. 😂. Next year I'll see you at Zandvoort
Actually thought it was an interesting race zandvoort isnt a very forgiving track so mistakes are gonna get punished which made it very intense.
I visibly and audibly gasped when I saw an on track overtake outside the DRS zones.
I liked the race, the track itself is stunning, the banking sections are unreal to watch
@wtf1 I’ve met and fistbump Matt in the crowds yesterday, behind the grandstand, he was easy to find, cause he was in red in the sea of orange :) was so nice to see ya around!
pretty decent race, some overtakes in the back, good strategy up front

FINALLY SOME RACING TO REACT TO YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
1AM, school in the morning...
And I’m staying away to watch the entire video
When I hear that twangy, royalty-free guitar loop, I know it’s on.
I liked the race. Ok it wasnt like a 5 star race. But slightly above average. Qualifying however was INSANE!!!
The track is a bit weird so definitely qualify was amazing but I was kinda bored out of my mind throughout the race
The race was great! Contacts, close racing, overtakes! I enjoyed it! 👍
Great race. Max out drove both strategies merc had for him. 😊. Like last year it was merc vs max and today max won! At home!!!🥲
The race was pretty good. More focus on the strategic side this time (which perhaps came across better on TV, than on the stands), but plenty of action nonetheless and spectacular shots of the cars even when they weren’t overtaking.
I love this race, I think that everybody is complaining too much since there were overtakes and battles but they just didn't broadcast half of it 😅
Totally agreed. You could constantly see the beginning or end of stuff in the corner of field of view before it switched away.
Or Lewis fans they are not used to lose a race
Watching this race on tv was actually so entertaining and exciting i loved it 🧡🇳🇱
I thought the race was epic.
Not at all.
Thanks for getting this out do fast, Appreciated over in western Canada.
I thought the race was average, which we should remember is still pretty decent. There was enough on track action and strategy to keep things interesting up front and in the mid field, and the track itself was amazing to look at and just see F1 cars going round. Overall a worthy GP I think. Was it the best? No. But it was solid.
My score: 1.75
Lack of overtake(Driver hold too long), lack of safety car, lack of small rain, lack of red flag and lastly not fun battle
@@luuduonghy659 you don’t like motorsport, you like crashes. 👎🏼

Same thing here... Max vs 2x Mercedes (again) with different strategies. And there was a constant danger of safety cars, red flags, etc
@@DewaKrishna_ Max is to Hamilton what Hamilton is to Bottas. Wasn't luck.
The different lines possible through corners, the banking, the high speed corners. I liked the race a lot. There was more overtaking than expected in different corners than expected, and the drivers also used different lines through corners, I liked it a lot. I mean Alonso in lap 1 corner 3 was epic.
merc 100% held bottas in the pits to give hamilton his fastest lap opportunity.
I said the same thing during the race.
I hope F1 is able to keep this track on its calendar from now on
The race wasn't great, but I'd rather a procession at Zandvoort or Mugello than a procession at Monaco.
Next year it should be much better for overtaking. They’re extending the drs zone to before the last corner and we’re getting the better cars!

The race was only entertaining because I’m a Lando fan and I was on the edge of my seat praying Perez wouldn’t get passed 😅
@@Noviomagus024 agreed!!!
