Dr. Fung, you likely greatly extended my life possibly even saved my life. 9 months ago, I had no idea what Diabetes truly was I was treating the symptoms and even though I thought I was doing well after two years of "treatment" I got my highest A1C ever 11.8. I was crushed I found your channel and you helped me understand insulin resistance and the tragic short comings of my Doctors and the knowledge the provided me. I began to treat my insulin resistance with a low carb high fat diet, intermittent fasting and some prolonged fasts . I was able to stop injecting myself with insulin almost immediately, within four months without medication my A1c was down to 6.8 and now I'm a 5.5. I have lost 90 lbs in 8 months and I feel like I am in control of my life again. Thank you for taking the time to explain this to the world. My wife and Children thank you

I am the first in my family to get type 2. When I was young all food was purchased daily and prepared from scratch. Our last meal was at 5pm and nothing till morning apart from bedtime cocoa.

    • @got_logic1320

Actually, no. Fung's interpretation of physiology and biochemistry is absolute trash. It's just that cutting out carbs and IF happens to produce a net energy deficit so people will lose weight, and thereby reverse health problems associated with being overweight. So It's great that people have lost weight due to his videos... but it's not for the primary reasons he's preaching. Anyone who has actually studied biochemistry and physiology will know the he's cherry picking information to push his narrative, which is to demonize carbs and sell his products. Take everything he says with a grain of salt. If people are actually interested in learning about Physiology and BioChemistry, pick up books... not listen to youtube as your primary source of information.
If Keto and IF works for you, fantastic. Keep it up. But he is not providing accurate education on the subject of Physiology. There is NOTHING wrong with Carbs for the average person who doesn't have medical conditions relating to insulin resistance.

@@nickplaysmyteam8394 It's all relative. There is no One-Model-Fits-All. Someone with specific medical issues to insulin resistance would benefit from controlled intake of carbs.
A bodybuilder/athlete or active person shouldn't have any issues with carbs when they're that active. An overweight person trying to lose weight would need to watch the amount of anything they eat, not just carbs, if the intention is to lose weight. A famished North Korean citizen who might have more access to cheap carb sources (like rice) won't need to watch what they eat, they just need to eat.
There is no innate problem with carbs for a relatively healthy person, with no issues to insulin or any kind of other allergic reactions to specific carb sources. But just like Everything, just don't overdo it. You can die from drinking too much water, so it's all relative.
And just to throw it out there, because there's so much misconception... Carbs by itself does not make a healthy person diabetic. There are other factors that contribute to Type 2 diabetes.

@@got_logic1320 I think ur completely missing the point. Dr. Fung isn't 'demonizing' anything. He's not claiming healthy active people will develop insulin resistance/Type II diabetes from carbohydrate consumption. He addresses how patients can reverse Type II diabetes naturally thru:
      1. Elimination/reduction of excess sugars, high carbohydrate, processed n fast foods that elevate serum insulin levels leading to chronic insulin resistance
      2. Intermittent fasting - one meal a day (OMAD) as a natural n safe way to use fat stores for energy, lowering serum insulin levels reversing chronic insulin resistance
      3. Maintain a low carb diet higher in natural fats and proteins from whole unprocessed foods n exercise for healthy lifestyle
The results speak for themselves. His years of clinical research, data, n physiological biochemical mechanism of insulin resistance is very sound - this coming from a Biochemist/Cell Biologist myself. Read his books and/or see some of his longer form presentations on his clinical research. He explains in clear detail the physiological pathways for obesity/insulin resistance and how to naturally reverse those pathologies.

Her lunch box contained ham and cheese on white bread, chips, a Devil Dog, the candy sticks that you dip in colored sugar and lastly Hawaiian Punch. I wondered to myself how much sugar was contained in just that one meal? That was just lunch. What do her parents feed her for breakfast, for an after school snack, for dinner, for dessert? How do any of these kids even have a chance of living a healthy life when their parents feed them nothing but processed junk daily?

I couldn't thank this doctor more. When all the texts claimed there are no "cure" for diabetics but high dises of insulin shots, his recommendation of intermittent fasting and low carb diet gave me a ray of hope. My vision was blurry, excessive sweating, hangry that never subsided, neuropathy in my hand and feet and degrading cognitive quality.
By following intermittent fasting with no snacking and mild cardio, I could already witness the improvement with my TG going down, losing all the belly fat, my energy levels going up and my mid meal hunger going down. His theory on insulin and insulin resistance was an eye opener for me, and changed the way i eat.
Adding little more effort like weight training and long fasting i managed to bring down my a1c from 11.9 to 5.5 in 3 months. My fasting too went down from 291 to 110s. Insulin levels too look fine. Looking forward to continue the effort bring the levels further down to 90s.
If you're a newly diagnosed with t2 or have just got tired with the standard procedure care, do yourself some favour and listen to this man. Come out of High CarbHigh-Insulin-High Blood Glucose circle lf death. You will never be able to improve with drugs. Dietary carb restriction, mild excercise and fasting are the only tools you've got.

While I like the fact that Jason promotes the benefits of fasting he did not answer the question his video asks. He says insulin resistance is caused by too much insulin. But what causes the persistent high levels of insulin? He states that when you infuse healthy people with high insulin they increase their insulin resistance. This does not prove much at all because a healthy person doesn’t need any extra insulin. The underlying problem is too much fat in the diet especially saturated fat. It’s called intramyocellular lipid toxicity. We eat too much fat which increases insulin resistance which increases the amount of insulin in the blood which increases fat storage which increases insulin resistance. Feel free to google this. When we eat loads of fat the fat is stored in the liver cells in excess and the muscle cells in excess. This decreases the effect of insulin on ushering glucose into the cells. When insulin is less effective glucose builds up in the blood. Carbs didn’t cause this. And lowering your carbs adds to the problem. Yes your sugar levels may decrease but you are substituting carbs for more fat which is increasing your insulin resistance. Its like hitting your knee every day with a hammer (fat) and saying the solution is to stop using your leg forever (carbs). Fix the problem which is the fat
and you can eat all the carbs you want and your insulin levels will be minimized. Lower the fat in your diet and eliminate saturated fat and you will decrease your
insulin resistance 100% of the time. Don’t take my word for it either, test it for yourself. If you’re type 2 eat 10% fat total for the whole day for 72 hours and you will
see that your sugar will decrease significantly and you will still need less insulin or medication. Monitor closely so that your sugar doesn’t go too low. Do it with Md supervision. Read about Dr. Walter Kempner, Dr. John Mcdougall etc. Their patients get off their medications and no longer have diabetes and eat all the carbs they desire.

The old "Google it" so it must be true. LoL! Diabetes is a result of too much sugar in the blood which is caused by eating a diet high in carbs, sugar and processed foods eg Pizza, pies, pasts, panne (bread), potatoes, cakes, cookies, sugary drinks, alcohol, etc.
How come people have been advised by numerous health providers in developed countries eg the US and Europe to eat a low fat diet, high carb, fresh veg and fruit, avoid meat diet for the last 30-40 years and we are now seeing a massive epidemic of huge fat obese diabetic slobs? Explain this? This is what you are basically advocating and is a scandal. Do you work for or have financial interests in big pharma as their solution is to prescribe anti-diabetes drugs such as Metformin for life?

      Hi Tom,
I came across to Dr. Fung 1st time in my life on 1st of June 2020, after my HBA1C reached over 100 first time on 31st of May 2020 (104 to be exact). When my normal doctors in the UK told me that its heavy duty T2 now and it is only progressive from here... first we manage you via Metformin and if things got worsen you will be on Insulin. I was also 120 kgs weight at that point.
Then I researched about T2 on internet and thank God I came across to Father on the subject on the very 1st day of internet research.... it was no other than the GREAT DR JASON FUNG saying in one of his videos that it is totally reversable condition... that even made my wife a laugh... I said to her o.k. at least let me try....
I started strict and disciplined Intermettent Fasting from 1st of June 2020.
Started with 14 hours fast with 10 hours of eating window during 1st 10 days.
No carb eating in 10 hours... and strictly no sugar and no soda or juices.
Only whole fruit, any kind of meat (beef, chicken or lamb / mutton but no pork).
A lot of salad with mix of vegetables. And 5km walking on daily basis (roughly taking me 1 hr in walk).
After 10 days I increased it to 16 hr to 8 hrs. With 5km walk continues daily.
Next 10 days (21 June to 30 June); 18 hr to 6 hr pattern. With 5km walk continue.
1st July to 15 July .... 20 Hr to 4 Hr pattern. With 5km walk continue.
16th July to 31st July back to 18hr to 6 hr window.
In August it was alternative days of 18 to 6 hrs of fasting and OMAD (one meal a day... (i.e., 24 hrs Intermettent Fasting).
In August 15 days of OMAD and remaining 15 days of 18 to 6.
All 90 days kept walking 5km a day minimum... sometimes 6 to 7km.
In all 90 days no sugar, no soda, no bread, no rice.... a lots of meat... a lots of stakes... a lots of salad... a lots of whole fruits... all kinds.... occasionally couple of dates for my sweet tooth.
And on 1st of Sept when I tested my HBA1C it was 35.
My GP in UK was on his toes as he couldn't believe it and started asking me what I have done.... you know what I said to him (in my heart)....
Go idiot... park your old school approach and books which have thought you to tell your patients that it is a progressive decease and there is no long term cure.
Go and listen to the GOD on the subject... the greatest of all... THE DR JASON FUNG.... and he will tell you that some medical books needs rewriting.
If someone treats you with medication (tablets or injections)... to me that is not medicine (i.e. medical practice or knowleadge).
However, if someone treats you and makes you perfectly healthy without giving you medication but by only making you understand the basic physiology of the body... NOW THAT IS MEDICINE.

To me, knowledge is based on the best factual information in my possession. He (tried to) told me there is no such thing, that type 2 diabetes only affects old people. Over the past few years I have connected most of the dots. The integrative doctor, like the conventional one, you have to look for it like a needle in a haystack, because most use the same formula, they put you on an elimination diet, they fill you with vitamins and natural medicines (which is not covered by insurance and you pay in dollars) but when you have any effect of these medications, or some symptom sends you to your conventional doctor???? what does that mean???? . The main driver is fructose, true fact.
The reality is that insulin resistance is a survival mechanism, just like all biological functions are. If you eat fructose you will stimulate insulin resistance to help prioritize energy to prepare you for a famine. This is why we crave sugar so much. We are supposed to eat fructose in fruit in the fall so we can gain a few pounds, go into insulin resistance and prepare for the winter.
Dr. Richard Johnson has proven this in his evolutionary description of fructose metabolism and why we gain fat.
Just remember, we evolved survival mechanisms to help us survive starvation and a lack of food. One of the evolutionary roles of insulin resistance is is a way to help us gain fat to survive changing metabolic conditions, like a lack of food.
Although there are other causes of insulin resistance, fructose is certainly the main driver.
Most low carb people think just having high insulin causes insulin resistance. It may, but it's not nearly as much of a natural driver as fructose is.
Check out Dr Johnson's work if you really want to understand insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and obesity from a scientific, evolutionary point of view.
    Dr. Johnson is right.

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 2 роки тому

What utter nonsense you have written. Did you read this on the internet and now copy and paste it everywhere you can?
Some of what you have copied and pasted is correct but a lot isn't. Fructose can only be metabolised and stored in the liver unlike other sugars such as glucose and sucrose which can be metabolised within body cells.
Insulin resistance is NOT a survival mechanism. It is as a result of persistently high blood sugar levels and the body no longer being able to regulate it through normal insulin production.
It is nonsense to write that we are supposed to eat fructose in fruit in the fall so we can gain a few pounds. Fructose is metabolised and stored in the liver hence people get NAFLD or cirrhosis of their livers.
Please provide the source of your DR Johnson's research that you say has PROVEN his evolutionary description of fructose metabolism and why we gain fat. Which scientific or medial journal was it published in? Your are trying to pass off untested and unsubstantiated opinion as fact.
I don't think you even watched this video as you clearly haven't understood what Dr F was saying. Insulin resistance is at a cellular level where the cell can no longer except any more sugar as it is FULL. Insulin is the hormone that facilitates cells accepting sugar only it no longer as any affect. This is insulin resistance. The cell is resistant to insulin. Enter drugs such as Metformin which make the cell accept more and more sugar as the dose is increased.
The cause of a high insulin level is consuming too many carbs and too much sugar. End of.
You really haven't grasped this have you?
Do you have ANY biological, biochemical education training or qualifications? You just seem to have found something on the internet that fits with your agenda and now you copy and past it everywhere you can. Nutz.

  • @Billy97ify
    @Billy97ify 2 роки тому +1

A simplified explanation, but it is true. There are mechanisms behind this and the simple fact is that the cells are overloaded with stored glucose by the time insulin is high. The Randle Cycle is also involved. The net result is just as Jason says. You don't really need the details. Just cut the glucose, fast and empty those fat cells.

This is outright medical desinformation. There is a large body of evidence demonstrating that insulin resistance is not caused by physiological hyperinsulinemia but by increased amounts of adipose tissue, which causes the release of inflammatory factors (adipokines) and free fatty acids. These two factors mess with the function of insulin receptors on body cells. Yes, under certain pathological or experimental conditions with continuous high insulin levels, insulin resistance also occurs. We see this for example in insulinomas and when insulin is continuously infused over a period of at least several hours. However insulin resistance induced this way is transient, meaning it reverses the very moment the iv drip or the tumor is removed. In addition, in this video Jason Fung chooses to ignore a large pile of randomized controlled trials in humans clearly demonstrating that the amount and type of carbohydrates in a diet has no discernible effect whatsoever on metabolic status. If you control for calories that is. The bottom line is that conditions related to insulin resistance such as NIDDM and metabolic syndrome cannot be reversed by manipulating the amount carbs consumed. These conditions can however be reversed by creating an energy deficit. Yes good old CICO. Don't let anybody fool you otherwise.

Ok, there is an idea that high insulin causes insulin resistance. There may be some truth to that, but I can confidently tell you that it is not the main driver of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, obesity or diabetes.
    How do I know that?
Simple, because of history. If high insulin was the primary cause of insulin resistance, then every society that ate primarily starches like the Japanese, Tukisientans, Central Americans, South East Asians would have all be suffering from staggering amounts of diabetes.
We know this is not the case because many farming societies have been eating rice, bread, potatoes in huge amounts for thousands of years without getting insulin resistance, diabetes or even struggling with obesity.
This also disproves the idea pushed by Bart Kay and others that the Randle Cycle is causing metabolic disease too.
If just high insulin caused disease, then diabetes would have most likely been more rampant.
I have found that the real cause of disease is fructose consumption. When you add fructose to a society's diet, diabetes becomes a huge factor.
None of the ancient societies started getting sick until they added sugar to their diets. They were perfectly healthy on carbs and starches until they started eating sugar, more specifically fructose.
Glucose and fructose are not metabolically the same. They are metabolized differently, and have different metabolic effects of the body.
The reason nobody seems to understand this logic is because they are looking at disease from the wrong perspective. They are just looking at the science without regard to evolution. Since us humans evolved, we need to not just use science to attempt to explain what we should eat and do to stay healthy, we need to use science to figure out how we evolved. All animals evolved, and evolution always tells the truth.
Fructose is our evolutionary survival nutrient, but since we eat way too much, it's making us sick.
