Haha! So cool. Thanks for the review and comments. Cool that you have seen me somewhere on UA-cam and not just for this react video! Yes, that was 4 years ago. It wasn't staged, I was actually passing (I had played the other piano that is here too) and it was free so I thought I would play something and then just carried on. By the end there was a huge crowd and I was going to play Bohemian Rhapsody (I had played another Queen one before) and then the gentleman interrupted me and asked if I could play it. And I learnt it by ear, I create my own piano arrangements by ear as I am lucky to have perfect pitch too. But it's a bit "robotic" as i did not really understand it as much, but after watching the movie and following the music and background a lot more, it's a more expressive now! Anyway, thank you and great channel!
"Throwing yourself around" while playing music to me is a fine line. Certain people when I see do it, it pulls me into the performance. Other people (Marcin, the guitarist comes to mind immediately) just come off as full of themselves. Excellent video though! I doubt I'd ever have the amount of passion and dedication required to develop this level of analysis and skill.
Haha, when you're talking about doing the "emoting" while playing during the Bohemian Rhapsody video, I got a huge flashback to my elementary school piano teacher who would do really exaggerated stuff like that and it always made me giggle. Which is probably partly why he did it. 😂 Loving these videos, I'm getting back to piano after a break of like 17 years. I'm actually watching a bunch of these videos while waiting for my digital piano to arrive in the mail (hopefully it'll be here on Monday). I really cannot wait!!
Hint: 99% of these videos are set ups! Titles like, "A Bum sits down at a piano and this happens," are nothing but click bait and it works. People are fascinated by reactions others to seemingly brilliant and spontaneous performances. 9 times out of a 10 when someone walks up to one of these random pianists and says, "Excuse me, do you no..." that someone is directly affiliated with the piano player. I guess it works because these players have millions of followers and are raking in the dough, but it seems a bit disingenuous to me. Maybe I'm just jealous. Not knocking the piano playing, it is great, just don't care for the deception behind a lot of these videos. I went to a mall once and there was a piano sitting in the courtyard. Throughout the day, I assume senior music majors or even post graduate students came out and played pieces. No hype, no deception, just great music. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing them. I kind of cringe at these contrived videos.
We have a piano at our college cafeteria and sometimes I just want to sit there enjoying the music… other times I put my noise cancelling on cause I’m on a tight deadline 😭
Your video reminded me of "when a professional musician sits down at a public piano" on YT. I'm sure youve probably already seen it but it would be good to see a reaction video from you (if you havent got one already).
He is recording his performance with a recorder on top right of the piano seen at 16:51 Can hear the highest notes are a little stronger than the lower ones and at the end he play so hard the sound start clipping.
I honestly hate those set up performances and see it as a disgrace and don't consider them true musician. As a musician my philopsy is that you a musician should play music for people because you want to give them a message and try connecting with the audience trough the emotion you are putting in the music then send those emotions to the audience and because of passion not to gain fame which absolutely disgust me but that is just my opinion everyone is free to have one
The people who show off the most to get fame and recognition are the worst kinds of musicians both in artistry and musicality… all the greats and top performers and students tend to be overlooked and largely ignored because they don’t feel the need the show off, they win prestigious piano competitions that no one cares about, but an amateur or beginner turns up at a random busy train station and suddenly everyone is listening and praising their talents like they’re the best in the world.
ironically the pieces and song that they play are just overplayed easy composition and that makes me laugh since anybody can play it and you are totally right about the top performed to gain fame they play because they love it and gained fame from it without ever asking for it. Chopin for me is the best example@@markfowlermusic
I partially disagree you're right no one should play just for fame or without any purpose or passion. But on the other hand there is nothing wrong with a little confidence booster here and there
You know, even if he is working to build his UA-cam channel, I say good for him. He performed the piece really well and he's a good pianist. UA-cam is like a business and you need to attract attention by creating interesting videos. So more power to him... And, if a pianist is showing off in a public forum thats awesome! Its inspiring... What good is a pianist that doesn't share their music with people or express themselves. Regardless of how sophisticated a piece of music is, if its played well thats all that really matters...

btw i prefer the booming bass over the melody, otherwise it doesnt quite feel as "full" in my opinion

That’s very exciting! I’m sure you will be able to practice throwing yourself around expressively in no time 😉
Yay! I love your videos Matthew! They're always hugely entertaining, educational & remarkably varied ✨️
Thanks Anita! 😊
Peter Buka has some amazing covers
He's my favourite pianist.

I have watched Dr K live at St Pancras and he is amazing, along with Terry Miles, and Ladyva is also great.
Matt you are immensely talented and quite funny too! Love your critiques!

Great commentaries 😂 very entertaining 😊

would love to see you improvise at St Pancras! I walk through there sometimes but have never seen anyone playing.
I'm enjoying your videos a lot.
What keyboard do you play on yourself when recording these videos?
The hoodie guy has made an apearance, once again
I can just see you being the top pianist UA-cam channel in a few months
Your reaction videos are always the best 😊
Really like you style of play on the boogie-woogie song. Love to hear more.
He can play it but he can't say it 😂
Hey Matt, i really want you to try and play the piano of fire dance of luna choir piece. It's extremely hard and i really want you to try it
One of the greatest channel ever i'm in love with ur content keep going and let us enjoy thank uou ❤🎉😊
Nice! I love your videos and you are definetly an underrated pianist. Keep up your work!
Brendan Kavanagh needs to make the next episode of this series, with the Chinese people... as the most viewed public piano playing, in history.
his reaction to that information
Matt, can you please reaction videos of Brian Crain's tracks?
Oof, you'd think Elton John could afford a piano tuner 😝
10:35 he starts playing Bohemian Rhapsody before getting stopped and asked to do it. Could be staged too.
@@aditsu, it’s not. That piano is quite popular and people hang around making those requests often.
If you plan on making another reaction video, could you do Warit Techakanont La Campanella
Public Pianos often are sooo out of tune and it makes beautiful playing sound horrible sometimes xD
Lol😂 the performance 🤪🫠
Those people are singers😂
Ouch!😂💔
Please react to Interstellar super realistic piano cover by PianoplayerElijah
sounds like water 0:20
Can you react to piano doctor
I haven't watched in a while but do you remember me?
I do! 😊

There are reasons those public pianos are there

You're Stevie T if he was a pianist.
Check out Luca Sestak
Haha, Dr K and Ladyva kinda out of your league. "This style of music"
It’s chords I, IV and V 😂
Those videos are cringe!!!! Especially when they get plants to say "do you know this song" then pulls out a violin to play alongside 🤢🤣
I saw one a few months ago with not only JVKE himself supposedly just being there but also a dude with a saxophone. Nothing is staged surely
Fake unknown second player joining is clickbait garbage.
But public music videos are great.
Can you please do a Yanni review 🙏🙏
yoo 8 minutes ago hey man
Hey! Thanks for making it early! 🥇
