First I would like to point out that the producer had the image of Sybil taking off her top shown so many times simply because they knew where most of the budget went, and they wanted the viewers to know too. That cleared up I would like to say that the first film was really good, and it is a shame what happened in the sequels that devalue it. Dee Wallace-Stone is a national treasure, and seeing her struggle against the PTSD after the attack is heart-wrenching. It is her personal journey (and the wolf transformation scene) that makes the first Howling worth the watch. You said one of these films featuring a male singing at the end is the 'worst thing' you have ever seen, I can only guess that means you had not seen any of the Human Centipede films yet.

First off, I'm rather surprised that there's no obligatory joke about the first film's creepy supernatural stalker who refuses to die when mortally injured being named Edward.
And second... Oh good. You've watched The Howling Reborn. I wonder if you'll notice the same thing I did about the library scene... (to be edited as I finish your video)
Go back to the introductory scene of Eliana. When she tells Roland to wait with the rest of the pack. Go forward to the dance party, with the tattoo on her wrist. Go forward to the fleeing through the tunnels, where she disappears, and then shows up again conspicuously barefoot.
Then go forward to the library scene again, where she spontaneously and retroactively has never met any of the members of the pack she told Roland to wait among.
Reborn doesn't even have continuity with itself.
And based on the director's audio commentary, it's very clear that he had to re-write the script during filming, when the original writer walked off the set after the monster suits finally arrived, and there were only two of them, making the intended ending utterly impossible.
Which is why I am totally convinced that in the original version, the wolf that killed Roland was Eliana, trading up in the boyfriend department.

Ironically, with the original The Howling, Rick Baker was working on the effects but left to do An American Werewolf in London, leaving his assistant in charge of the effects. A guy by the name of Rob Bottineau. Yep, same guy that did the effects and creatures for The Thing. So, technically, Rick Baker's company did the effects for both of the top werewolf films, which is kinda cool.

Just rewatched the first 3 of these. Marsupials is bad, but is so Australia that it makes it up for it a little. For those too young to know, in the 80's Australia was super cool. Plus I give credit for educating people on the sadly extinct Tasmanian Tiger. Only thing I remembered going into part 2 was the Werewolf orgy. I swear at one point this was a Vampire movie until someone decided to change it Werewolves. The original is great & Dee Wallace has a way of making every Horror movie she is in better.

I watch these to fall asleep. It's 4:11 a.m. right now and I was woken up from a dream about wolves. I'm a bit fuzzy on the whole of it but the part I remember is that I caught a wolf in my unattached garage/man cave and stabbed it in the side with a gerber. It escaped somehow and I spent most of the rest of the dream hiding with my 2 dogs in the man cave as 2/3 wolves were outside waiting for me to come outside. Once the sun came up I stepped outside to look for the wolf's body. Instead I found one of my dogs laying on the ground all F'ed up. All four of her legs and back had been crushed but she wasn't bloody. I carried her inside and woke up.
I gotta choose a different channel to fall asleep to. This is the video that was playing when I woke up, not when I fell asleep.

In my head I actually had some of these messed up from childhood on which was which. Like I always remember part II as being a later one in the series for some reason but besides that they are most as I remember them. They were indeed on the shelves a lot in the movie rental stores and as a kid rented quite a few of them.
There are a couple I don't think I watched but I might have just forgotten them. Blanked them out after watching them. Just there were a lot of movies to watch back in the day.
Part II maybe a bad movie but besides the first it is one that always stands out in my memory with that damn sound especially. I thought it was an alright song but I never forgot it. It is just kind of catchy.
I do remember "The Freaks" being alright, nothing special but not terrible either. It worked for what it was and some effort was put into it.
Anyways. Thanks for another good video. Look forward to the next one and hope that you and yours are still going well. (:

  • @princessmaly
    @princessmaly 3 роки тому

Definitely agree about 6, I've seen people say 5 was the only other good one which has always baffled me because of how well 6 nails it. But all of them have their moments, and they all have different incentives to watch them. Unfortunately, the appeal and entertainment value for most of the series is in how hilariously terrible they are, but of the sequels, 2 earnestly wants to create new werewolf lore which I enjoy, even if it's weird and dumb, 3 has marsupial werewolves, nuff said, 4 has that weird melting scene, 5 is a moderately competent whom was it that did this, 7 sounds like a fake movie on paper but actually does exist, and 8's... y'know, they tried, the effort's there and the werewolves are actually pretty cool.
So individually they've all got something that'll make you not regret watching them at the very least, but as a series it's the single least cohesive thing I've ever seen. Not a single one of them has hardly anything to do with the others aside from some haphazard, limp wristed attempts at call backs in 2 and 7, but those continuity ties just get stuff wrong and open up plot holes.

Watched the first Howling a couple years ago for the first time. Hadn't seen any of them before that. Didn't really do anything for me. Haven't had any real desire to see the others. Guess I've never really gotten into werewolf movies.

Landon Liborion from Reborn also played a werewolf in Hemlock Grove. IMO, that was a lot better.

"The first recognizable actors since the second one"? You didn't recognize Michael T. Weiss from Bones or the Pretender TV series? Or Michael Pate from Curse of the Undead? And I take it you've never seen Bliss with Barry Otto. Would the bulk of The Howling films constitute Ozsploitation?

Gary Bradner novel Howling III was straight up werewolves the time they did Howling III movie they decide not make them what we seen from the first and second film.In fact there is 3 ways to kill a werewolf .1. By a sliver bullet.2. By Fire and.3. By each other. For the case of Howling Part VII Mystery Woman was outside the states and Canada what we got is Howling:New Moon Rising so if we got asked hey did you all see Howling VII Mystery Woman outside the states and Canada we would have no idea any one else is talking about. I remember renting this on VHS and going what 7th movie and it crap.

@@movietimelines I do not agree. The first one was an excuse to show weird sex on camera and not get called porn.
