    No tents, homeless, no worry being mug or stab, no bend over druggies. Better than a lot of places in North America.

    if they only know how much a flat cost in this POOREST DISTRICT, they wont call it the poorest district.

      Kwun Tong property prices are indeed on the rise, in face of Kwun Tong's redevelopment (transformation into a CBC). Its often out of the Hong Kong's affordable districts to live in lists (typically topped by Sham Shui Po)

    In 1963 the charity Oxfam ran adverts in the Daily Telegraph in the UK pleading for donations to feed the starving people in HK. I arrived in HK in October 1963, there were no starving people, but there were a lot of people who were very poor, for example the shanty towns on the hillsides of Causeway Bay and Diamond Hill. Thankfully HK has improved a lot since then and most people are no longer 'poor', but neither can they be deemed wealthy. So to show a video labelled 'HK's poorest district' which features shops/stalls full of food, expensive cars, well-dressed and well-fed people on the street is pretty meaningless when there is real poverty elsewhere in the world.

      @walkinginasia  5 місяців тому +3

      its a matter of perspective I think. the streets may show one angle but living conditions within housing units may show a different story. Extreme cases of subdivided units or cage homes are still common in "poorer" districts. But of course I only tour public places in my channel. Also thanks for sharing your story.

    Thank you for another tour of Hong Kong. It's nice to get a tour of all parts and not just the flashy tourist areas (though, they are nice too). For a poor district, they certainly have some very good outdoor facilities and parks 😊🙏👍

      exactly! also well maintained still a good mix of housing types, both low end and high end. thanks Alan!

    Never thought of Sham Shui Po or Kwun Tong as "poor". Not as modern as some other parts, but progress will watch up. The apartment buildings look nice. The street market scenes did look like old H.K. Thank you a pleasant walk. Enjoyed.

      agree. What I experienced didn't match a face value definition or a "poor" district, I thought it was very vibrant and had some really good public amenities too

    Great video! I grew up and lived in Kwun Tong in the 70s, and played in the Yuet Wah playground when I was a kid. I would not call that area poor. Back in the days it would have been an area for the middle income families. Yes, there are some very old public housing - 50 plus years. It looks reasonably maintained.

    The owner of this video stream need to validate what the title mean. It is very misleading and leave a bad impression for native folks and foreigners who don’t any better. Walking in the poorest districts??? Is the Chinese way and culture. Is great they keep the culture and the way. I say the wealthiest in culture. i love it.

    Once again I am impressed how clean the streets are overall. On one opening scene 1 paper on ground. Some on ground in produce mats but not bad. Bangladesh and Africa the ground is solid junk and garbage. Just toss it.

      @walkinginasia  6 місяців тому +1

      for sure! on paper, it has the lowest ave. household income in all of HK, but its streets tell a different story and doesnt feel like a "poor" district. I found a variety of housing types (low to high end) and some really good public facilities :)

      In HK, beeing poor doesn't mean thay don't have food to eat or wearing worn out clothes. It is mainly they have low disposable income after paying for rent and other necessity for daily live and staying in sub-divided flats. The children still receive education and they can also receive treatment in public hospitals. They can't afford anything luxury.

    Not too familiar with the district's wealth but been to Hong Kong a couple times, & Sham Shui Po seems more poor than this district

    • @walkinginasia
      @walkinginasia  2 місяці тому

      Sham Shui held the record for HK's lowest income district for many years but in 2023, it was overtaken by Kwun Tong by a small margin. but you're right, comparing the environment of both, SSP looks lower income but I guess its local economy is thriving these days

    The title of this video should be Hong kong's old district and not Poorest district.
    You make insult to other cities of the world which lesser orderly or sophistication than this but not naming it as poorest !!

    • @walkinginasia
      @walkinginasia  3 місяці тому

      that is not my intention at all. I merely wanted to show what is considered a poor district in HK looks like. Everything becomes relative when you start comparing it to other places of course. But maybe other cities can also learn from HK in the respect

  • @khungle2845
