  • A review of the 400-Series Stabila Folding rule, which happens to be a Festool-Branded one. Stabila has been making folding rules for over 150 years, so its safe to say they know what they're doing.

Wow. Just wanted to say thanks for this vid. I just ran across one of these on Amazon, it was cheap, and i'd been thinking for a while that it wouldn't hurt to have a folding rule in my site box - so i typed it into google, and found this vid. I'm actually shocked by the level of detail that you've put into this review. It's awesome - now i feel like i know everything there is to know about this rule, and it was all presented in a short and concise format. Thanks, i'm subbed to your channel.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. The one thing I would say about this ruler that I wish it had was inch measurements on one side. Other than that I have found no faults and it has held up well.

I am on to my second Stabila rule. I broke the first one due to stupidity.
Had to replace it as I liked it that much. I chose Stabila due to using their levels since I was an apprentice. I didn't know they started by making rules but it is easy to believe after using them. Top quality.

Thanks for sharing, you never know you need a folding rule until you need one. Yeah I've always known Stabila as a level company.

For us it is the Common way to measure when doing DIY Work. Interesting to See that Other countries do not seem to use or even know the "Zollstock". I even Had to think of an alternative way to measure large objects.

What does one typically use a folding rule for...?
Instead of a more common self-retracting tape measure.

While they have been mostly replaced with tape measures, they are still good for making inside measurements and when you have to make overhead or vertical measurements. Electricians sometimes use them because they won't conduct electricity like a steel tape measure would. The Germans almost exclusively use folding rules over tape measures.

It's handy when measuring conduit bend marks (Electricians)

I've got one, I always think I should use it but I'm too used to my tape measure. They are a nice tool though.

I just wish they had inches on the other side, which is why I end up using my Wiha folding rule more even though this one is much better quality.

I have a couple of Stabila folding rules and they aren't good quality. The numbers fade very fast. I prefer Metrica.

You should check out Hultafors folding ruler, in my opinion the best of them all.

I worked in Germany for a few years and always got frustrated when I would need to measure something on-site and these were the only measuring devices available. They’re almost useless; and in the rare instance that they’re not almost useless, they’re completely useless.
