Brett favre's retirement saga was strange but I'm willing to look past it partly because of how great his seaons with minnesoda was. He threw 33tds and a career low 7ints, so he debatably had one of his best seasons in the NFL at the age of 40. So when he stayed in the league because he felt like he could keep playing he kinda proved it for that one season.
The Brett Favre revisionism is crazy. He had his career best year in terms of passer rating, completion percentage and yards per attempt in 2009 while also throwing only seven picks, which was also a career low if you don't count his season in Atlanta. He also would've gone to the Super Bowl for the third time had there not been 12 men in the huddle or had the refs not allowed the Saints to headhunt for the entirety of the 2008-2009 NFC Championship game.

Favre was traded, not released, by Green Bay. Favre was traded to the Jets for a conditional pick that ended up being a 3rd-rounder, which Green Bay sent to New England to move up to draft Clay Matthews. New England ultimately used that pick to select North Carolina WR Brandon Tate.
