Love her work with Benny Goodman. Ms Ward still sounded great at this age. Thank you for the upload.

Helen Ward was one of the most admired singers of the big band and swing eras, and among the most popular and successful. Benny Goodman, who could be difficult, loved her talent.

Wow! I've enjoyed Helen Ward since I was a teenager in the 80s, and have never heard her interviewed! What a treat. Thank you again!

Wonderful: like Helen Forest, unbelievable voice control, and both of them could teach current singers so much. Thanks so much for this wonderful posting.Ted

    Astonishing! She was absolutely ageless!

Are you kidding? I was thinking the complete opposite! I figured she must have smoked & drank a lot, to look like that in 1979, after only 30 years or so.

Glad you like it. I also have Helen Ward being interviewed on the Joe Franklin Show around the same time, but she doesn's sing. I can post it if you're interested.

Alan Eichler By all means, please upload the video. I certainly remember watching The Joe Franklin show. I will also never forget Billy Crystal's hilarious parody of Mr. Franklin during a Saturday Night Live sketch.

Like many so-called girl singers of her era, Helen aged amazingly well, as Helen O'Connell, Helen Forrest, Lena Horne (who began as a girl singer), and particularly Doris Day who, in her 90s, still looks like Doris Day.

She was a knockout in 1936

Just imagine the huge difference in music from the 30's to 1979. These days, there's just not that big of a change in 30 years.

Lovely lady. Love big band music. I think she might have smoked some cigs in her life.

Poor dear, if she heard the crap for music coming out in the 2000's she would turn over in her grave. What an outstanding vocalist.

Maybe she might like to do a rap or two with some hip hop on the side, then drop into the tattoo parlor for a tramp stamp later in the day.

What a shame she didn't continue her career but as she said her husband wouldn't have it. Thankfully times have changed, now she would have continued singing and went on with her marriage at the same time.

Where did that ACE clarinet player keep his wig to prevent it making a bid for freedom?
