What do you recommend me to use to install? I want to get a Linux Web Server for my application but I do not know what to do. Thanks for your great support.
If you want to host a local web server then it’s a bit more complex - setting up a Cloud-based web server is actually a good use of the Cloud and quite easy. Web Servers are a good example of when the Cloud is useful.
The short answer is: it CAN be done, but performance degrades each time. I’ve do this when teaching Data Centre and Virtualization courses. We need to virtualized the systems that perform the Virtualization. However, for production systems this would be challenging - both from a performance standpoint and a management standpoint.
I only have a work laptop and lets just say that I need to be allowed to enter certain webpages while I'm not at work and I failed to do that since it has a VPN in it . Am I able to do that if I use a VM from my work laptop?
Fantastic tutorial. Very informative I want to use VM for RENDERING, Blender animation and DaVinci Resolve. As you mentioned, VM is not good for gaming and mining. I believe your answer to rendering blender and DaVinci Resolve is also no
It’s cheap enough to find out. At 10 cents an hour, it’ll cost you know more than 20 cents to see if it fits your needs. Way cheaper than spending hundreds (or thousands) for a brand new comp if unnecessary.
Are VM’s in Azure secure? I worry about leaving a (virtual) online with a public IP address and open port. What are best practices to make the VM’s secure from intrusions? Great videos!
It is not a great idea to leave the system running with an open port for sure. We still need to follow best practices - and you can configure the firewall to just allow your public IP access and block others. That’s a little more configuration though. What I often do is just shutdown the system when I’m not using it. A powered off system is harder to attack 😀 Thanks for watching!
@@t-augment you can shutdown in Azure and the stops the compute. It still keeps the storage which charges at a much reduced rate. So when you start the VM it’s the same (Programs and everything is still there). If you deallocate it completely stops charging everything, but then you have to create a new system
Hi there is it better to use a virtual machine or a brand new separate laptop only to use to keep the metamask on there and do crypto related stuff? Unfortunately Ledger don't support a lot of coins
Yes there is. I recently installed Ubuntu in Virtualbox in order to use Metamask and browse web3 content without it affecting my computer. There are a lot of shady sites in the crypto world and the VM will allow me to browse and see what's trustable. If I were you, create several wallets within the VM before connecting a wallet. Good luck!
I’m just starting to work with Windows 365 and the Adobe products - but I think that any GPU-intensive tasks are still a little bit too hardware intensive for Cloud VMs to match at this point. Of course, this could change and short-term use may be something to consider. I’ll be experimenting more and creating videos for sure.
Thanks for sharing, Is cloud based computer like Azure will be good enough for professional audio use? with heavy audio plugins on heavy DAW? for an internet with download speed of 70 mbps? or will it need the 5G? my interest is to use a powerfull windows on my Macbook which is not so powerfull.
Engineering? So - the short answer is yes. Huge Compute workloads are actually a good use-case. You’ll pay for it 😀, but if you need to do a large numerical/data processing workload - then spend time interpreting the results - there’s a use-case for that. For example, data warehouse population and aggregates. You can architect the compute workload such that the Cloud services do the compute and then you distribute the results to your Analysts to… analyze 😃 This is “expensive”, but not in the aggregate - because you don’t have to over-spec the Analyst systems. It also supports models where you might want mobile insights into data/numbers. After all - no smart phone is smart enough to build a data model and/or process differential equations en mass.
When it comes to graphics - real-time graphics aren’t great on any Cloud VM I’ve seen. Google is trying with Stadia. However, rendering effects and such on the Cloud is a way to scale up processing on an as-needed basis.
True! Gaming on the Cloud is definitely a thing that is not quite there yet - and Stadia closing down just reenforces that. It remains to be seen if and when there is enough bandwidth and data centre resources to support it in the future.
The subject of your video is not accurate. It should be 5 scenario/cases where you should not use vm for. because it talks about specific instances that should not use vm oppose to not using vm in general.
Well - if you watched that video completely, I never said not to buy a PC ever again. In that video I said not to buy a PC for labs at school - it’s situational.
Haha - you don’t get out much then 😀. You might like the other video I did “Top 5 Reasons to use a Cloud Based Virtual Machine” - that’s more “Millennial” for you. To be fair - I’m GenX - so I tend to just do what works without too much judgement either way 😆
@@tacticalaf3877 Funny fact - the “Don’t” video has twice the views of the “Do” video. It’s weird. I’m a pretty big fan of cloud services in general, but you are 100% correct that there seems to be a lot of hate for no reason on them. Again - I’m GenX - so I remember when I was told Client/Server would never replace Mainframes 😀 Ironically, that argument “sort of” is becoming true! We are now connecting to the “big” system in the sky. 😀 Thanks for watching the videos too! Much appreciated!
@@LearningandTechnology I watched it to pretty much confirm what I already knew. Just started AWS this year at work and I have a free personal account that I haven’t really touched because #2. Though if I do decide to create a server or service of some kind, I might go that route.
All your 5 reasons are not valid. All you do is describing use cases that don’t fit well with a VM in the cloud. The most obvious issue is bandwidth. I don’t do GPU intensive gaming or music production on a VM on my desktop. If you’re out in the wild your laptop also has a bad connection to the rest of the world via internet. For jobs like database server, number crunching, programming and turn based games a VM in the cloud is a nearly perfect solution. My real consideration is about security: is it safe? Another thing is legal concerns: does the VM comply with local (European law)?
Oh! For security! Check out my video being released tomorrow on Encryption in transit and encryption at rest. For European laws, compliance and such - you can select the data Center location. I would have to read each legal agreement - which I haven’t done, but it may be affected by the Data Center location
Total disagree with your opinion that Apple Clone was " Not that great" ? Get your fact right. The sales of Apple Clone computers way pass the sale of original Apple at that time. Apple saw their profit has been chipped away because Apple Clone is way cheaper and expandable compared to Apple computer. That's why Apple lifted their license. And regarding the cloud based computer. You have to remember certain organisation need to have their data synchronised between multiple location that has their own in-house software which are too costly to build from the ground up.
