I don’t often comment on videos but I had to just stop and say thank you for doing these videos! I’m new to ceramics and have learned a lot from you! Thank you!!!
Karen, I've been a fan for quite a long time. Thank you for making ceramics something I can accomplish. You provide such enthusiastic inspiration. I wanted to praise you for how dedicated you are to the craft and your students. I watched your many bowls in your kitchen and took so many notes on glazes. That is so helpful. Warmly, Lori Bergvall, Paso Robles, CA
Karan, it’s great to see you back, you have been missed! I’ve been wondering what happened to you, not realizing it’s the end of the school year. Happy you’re ok - just a wee bit busy. 😊
@karanspotsandglass, nice to see you're back! I have a few pottery books, forgot to mention that when I facebook messaged you lol. Thank you for the extended tips! Glad you're doing well!
Hi i was wondering if you can show how to make a medium size ,hand built pumpkin.Hallow, container with a lid .Im thinking of making one ,but i dont know how to go about it,if i should make one with the pinch pot method or slab over a form method . Hope to hear back 😊 Also love your videos ❤
It was my follow up video! :) Prepping and Firing a Glaze Kiln to Cone 6- Part 2 of 2; Quarantine Distraction Video Day 43. ua-cam.com/video/ci49-5-cIFc/v-deo.html
Do you mean in order to dip? Well, if you’re thinning a glaze to dip- it will take experimentation to figure that out. It should cover it without cracking when drying. My simple rule of thumb is that the glaze should cover my hand like a latex glove when I dip. This is not true for every glaze however! It will take experiments to get it right for any glaze!
Lol- I have never heard of that! Do you mean to dip a shino first? Not with my Coyote glazes!! In fact- some of my favorite combinations are shinos OVER other colors- like shinos over black... they're gorgeous!
Well I’m sort of new and I work in a community studio(which is, understandably, closed) and we fire to cone 10, but I have been warned that if you put Shino over something it will bubble and pit. That is so cool that you can put coyote Shino over other glazes!
Sometimes it is called a stilt stone. Here is a small one I got from my local supplier. I think they have the big ones too! cornellstudiosupply.com/product/sms-stilt-mark-stones-stone/

Thank you!!!!!!
Do you have to put a clear glaze over top to make it food safe?
tami renno generally no if you use a food safe glaze and mid or high fire
D Sheridan is right- nope- just use a food safe glaze! I only would do clear if over an underglaze or I wanted clear! :)
Now I’m confused, are you brushing a dipping glaze and then brushing on top a brushing glaze?
All my coyotes are thin enough to dip- and they only need one layer for dipping- but the same ones can be brushed in 3 layers!
How much water we should mix with glaze

My glazes tend to crack as they dry. Does that mean they are too thin?
Wait! You don’t have to obey “Shino first, or be cursed’?
