i’ve actually obsessed with my dead stick plant because the way it drips down the side and trails all the way down the side of my plant shelf is kind of weird but kind of cool. It ends up also changing color from green to purple to brown so anyway, it’s just one of my favorites.
I wanted to say I noticed get bored with certain UA-camrs, but I’ve never got bored of yours. You are very very good at explaining things and helping us to learn about plant care! Love your beautiful fur baby, she looks like she’s got Labrador in her, I have 2 Labs x ps give regards to Ross
Namibia is a Country in Southern Africa. It is mostly arid dessert soil. South Africa is a neighbour. The little plant you showed first is quite common here and yes it does have those amazing colours. I have never heard of them being grown by seed. Good luck with that. I hope it works and would love to know how you fare. Hugs
Clair if it at all helps, set up a time-lapse camera if you can to catch the cactus blooming!!! That way you can keep the cactus safe and still enjoy yourself at the festival! 😄
Part two part two part two!!! This was so fun! I love watching you. You’re soooooooo imformative and I can’t get enough of the fun facts about the plants we love.
My jaw literally dropped when you showed pictures of the jade vine, but then I realized it looked familiar because I actually have pictures of one from when I lived in Hawaii! It's such a stunning plant! 💙
Love all those weird plants. I always look for the unique ones that pop and catch the eye ❤Thanks for sharing! It's always so great to see you. I hope you get to see your beautiful cactus flower 🌵 🌸
I didn't think I would like the "dead stick" plant but when I found one at a favorite nursery of mine, I bought it. I love it. And the new growth is like tiny little green fingers that turn brown as they get older. It's in a hanging basket and some of the limbs(?) are over a foot long. I recommend if you like unusual plants. 😊❤
Festival season cactus! lol More of a Ross plant, Oxalis trianguluaris, if you really like butterfly looking plants! Or Oxalis triangularis Atropurpurea When they flower, they have dainty little flowers that look like flowers flocking to butterflies, instead of the reverse Oxalis corymbosa aureo-reticulata May be a fun one for you. You really enjoy the difference in the color of the leaf and the veins
Mammillaria matudae are common but they will not look like that for most people. They often just end up floppy and with irregular growth due to long periods of little to no sun during fall and winter. The spination also isn’t as good. They are also a pain to grow in a pot, because they naturally grow on top of rocks, so when they don’t have rocks to lie down on, they just start drooping and growing downwards, like a monkey tail cactus. Most stores also sell the, either individually or in small clusters often of just three. They look much better when you have a lot of them, so they can lie on top of each other and don’t look as droopy.
They need a rest period in cool temperatures and no water and ideally a spot outside during the growth season. Tropical cacti would be better suited for indoor cultivation if there is a very sunny window.
The "frazzle dazzle frizzle shizzle" made me 😂 Gives me a video idea: coming up with names for strange plants based on appearance. I would name that last begonia the spiked toad 🐸
I enjoyed this video so much and I would love a part two! Also another plant that kinda looks like sticks, but way nicer than the one you showed us decarya madagascariensis. Unplantparenthood shows it a ton and when it was big it looked so cool!
The 🐙 prop jar with that begonia🤌🏽😘the butterfly plant I know as an Oxalis. The jade vine😍🪴🪴🪴and that cactus that did NOT look like a thumb to me😂😂! Very cool plants.💚
I have the most BEAUTIFUL cactus flower show today, 4 giant white blooms the petals are like feathers. I wish they lasted longer, I brought it inside to enjoy it and to avoid pollination.
Honestly another group of weird plants I would recommend is the order of Selaginellales or more specifically; the family Selaginellaceae. They are very ancient plants that are more related to ferns than most other plants, but are not true ferns. There are many colourful species like; "Selaginella Uncinata" or "Selaginella Erythropus" and the resurrection plant. (Selaginella Lepidophylla).
😥 I'm so sorry to hear about your biophytum sensitivum! I only grow mine in a terrarium. I do hope the seeds grow for you. Loved seeing all the unusual plants, part 2 - yes please. My suggestion for part two would be Monanthese Polyphylla, fast growing, easy care and seriously cute 🥰
Hello Claire from Puerto Rico!!! Those are some unusual plants!!🪴 Just started my English speaking channel and would appreciate your support. Thank you!! 🪴🌿🙋🏼♀️🌵
Hi Claire, I was wondering if someday you might make a video about how you can fit so many plants in your flat? I struggle with finding a place for all of mind and I have no where as many as you. 😢
I have a Jade vine in my garden growing up a tree. I live in Qld Australia. They're definitely not a house plant tho...quite a vigorous grower. The flowers are a beautiful colour. There is also another vine called mucuna bennettii which is often called the red jade vine. Looks the same except red. Not sure u could grow a Jade vine in the UK..maybe in a huge conservatory 😊
The Begonia brevirimosa is on my wish list. A few days ago I came across a Begonia that gave me the same feeling when looking at it: Begonia serratipetala. It has deeply serrated leaves, with a burgundy underside, and brownish green colour with burgundy splotches so close together, they look like lines. I bought it and am very happy with it!
Loved this list, got some cool inspo! Definitely remember the globby keychains and earrings as a kid. Super sad you’ll miss your gymno bloom but really cool that it’s blooming for you! I know you mentioned with a few of them wanting to access seeds, if you have someone you can have watch your gymno while you’re away they can pollinate it for you if both flowers open at the same time and maybe you could get some seeds! I have a few of them that should hopefully flower this year and I can’t wait to see if I can get seeds!
I’ve been growing the christia sp for several years now. Here in Hawaii, surprisingly it acts very much like an annual. And every year I get a new crop of plants popping up in my collection. Super easy to catch for, they do like to dry out but then again I don’t water them on purpose anymore. Hope this helps.
I was lucky enough to see the jade vine in a botanical garden in Italy - it's genuinely that bright, incredibly striking! As soon as i got back to the uk i was trying to find how to get my hands on one 😂 Would love a part 2!
From what I understand the Ferrox needs high humidity. The melanobulata(so?) can deal with lower humidity. They look like the same plant to me but the meloano is said to be easier. I have my ferroz in a terrarium and she loves it.
I'm in the US and have wanted a swallowtail for over a year. I even went south close to our most tropical area and tried to find a shop that could order one. No go. I read the seeds are hard to grow so I never bought them. I'm looking forward to reading through comments to see if anyone has had luck growing from seed or have a clue when I can get a plant from.
Hi Clare I know you said in one of your videos about how hard it is to get distilled water in the U.K. , I agree I’m in the U.K. too. You could try API stress coat for fish tanks . It’s a water conditioner you can get it at Amazon , eBay and pets at home make sure it’s for goldfish not tropical fish
Well, of course you need a part two! I just love watching you, and this video was so much fun. I'd love to see you include senecio bryoniifolius in the next one.
Hi there! Just stumbled across this video and your channel. I love this kind of video so much. We would love a part 2 to this video! So fun and interesting to learn new plants.
Hi part two? Yes please. Are you filming the Malvern show- only recently found out there is a big section on houseplants this year but can't make it. Would love to see it from your POV. Have a great time.
Crap, my wish list just expanded exponentially I’ve got 3 different bright red/dark pink begonias, the sheen is incredible Yes part 2 please! I just found a Black bat flower plant I had to give it a go! Found baby begonias ferox for 65$ cad at our local nursery, very cool
most unexpected part of this was finding out the unnamed random cactus that I picked up from the store clearance section was actually a thumb cactus all I can say is that it's been great taking care of it so far, it did give me 2 blooms even tho it's still smol so I recommend it!
I love how that verigated Gymnocalacium's flower bud is verigated! You could get a cheap wifi camera to put on it while you're away. Just an idea! Great wishlist plants!
Logee’s has the Jade Vine Plant at at their store in Danielson, Connecticut. It’s always blooming around late March and they sell it. Not sure if they ship internationally. It is really stunning to see in person!
This was so fun! 🎉❤ never heard of several of them, but I'd love a part 2🎉 edit to say that I have the euphorbia platyclada and it's quite fun to grow! I love its tiny delicate flowers. But I totally get how some may not like it. To each their own ❤
I have an Euphorbia platyclada, it have not been a fast growing plant in my care x) But they are charming in their own way :> Pelargonium cotelydonis, P. gibbosum, P. tetragonum, P. tomentosa and P. quinquelobatum , I still have gibbosum and tetragonum in my collection. P. gibbosum have yellow flowers that smell like banana in the evening and early mornings but is scentless during the day and night. P. tetragonum can grow super (like 2-3+ meters) long and have pretty large flowers. P. quinquelobatum is pretty boring as a plant but the flower is a nightmare to photograph because the same flower look white, pink, gray, blue, yellow in different pictures depending on the light, use of flash, background etc. Rhipsalis have lots of pretty and weird ones. Dischidia nummularia 'Pangolin Kisses' was one of my weirdest ones thus far, but mine recently died. And an all time WL that I've never got my hands on is Oxalis palmifrons.
i live in new york city. and here at the NY botanical garden they have a long greenhouse with jade vines growing all over. they are really remarkable. the color is never done right in photos. in real life it's almost electric the intensity of this unnatural looking teal color. and the flowers aren't pods they are just folded petals and the inflorescence can grow up to almost 2 feet long. seeing hundreds of them hanging all around is magical. it really is an amazing plant. the only problem is the plant is a huge vine that only flowers when mature and really big. so it's unfortunately not a plant for indoor cultivation.
Thank you for a lovely video!! Adding some more suggestions for the crazy plants :) So here we go: Pleiospilos Nelii (amazing plant, I wish it would be possible to add pictures here!), Conophytum Pageae (they also have beautiful small flowers that open up at night, very easy to care!), Crassula Umbella and Crassula Buddha's Temple (although as they grow bigger they become less nice, could get elongated unfortunately). Then Ceropegia Dichotoma and Ceropegia Bosseri or Ampliata - the odd ones :), Tephrocactus Alexanderi or Articulatus var. Papyracanthus with their unusual spikes, Alluaudia or Ceraria are also super weird! From beautiful weirdos: Monadenium Ritchiei variegated (my joy! It's funny looking but really beautiful), Echeveria Trumpet Pinky, Begonia sp. Miri (imho better than Darthvaderiana), Manihot Grahamii (the leaf form is just wow!)
I just got a tiny baby Strongylodon macrobotrys after seeing a huge one at the Biltmore Estate conservatory!! It hasn't done much yet, but I so hope for those weird and wonderful blooms at some point! 😍
alocasia flying squid could be in the same category as the one that looks like a dead stick .. a bit creepy in my opinion .. kinda cool! Definitely for people who are really into that kind of look though!
Those earrings! I immediatelly knew what you were talking about, I had those :D considering I never throw anything out, they're probably still around somewhere.
I love my euphorbia platyclada! The new growth is green :) And coincidentally I just saw the jade vine at a botanical garden in Mexico and it was VERY noteworthy indeed.
I love videos like this! I immediately searched for drosanthemum globosum, and intend to get it if possible. They are in the same family as delosperma, another you might enjoy. South Africa is becoming one of my favorie origins for houseplants, because it's a very harsh environment that makes some intersting species that can adapt well indoors. If I can make another suggestion, plectranthus ernstii does not get enough attention for how beautiful it is. If you like structural plants, and maybe that bonsai look: this one does that without the special attention all on its own. Also from South Africa.
Just ordered the christia obcordata as seeds, it looked so nice :) 5 for 5 euro . My latest weird plant is a Adromischus Marianiae Herrei red coral . I have the begonia ferox and like it but the young leaves don't have the spikes. The begonia melanobullata does have them on juvenile leaves.
i had a biophytum sensitivum a few years ago. it was such a beautiful little plant, and thrived in its terrarium for months. I wish i had kept its seeds cause the store I originally bought it from doesnt sell them anymore :(
I picked up a Mammularia cactus in Tesco for a few £ back last year. It’s in flower now. I have it on a south facing windowsill. My wife says it’s like a cage fighter in a tutu 😂
Are you able to put a spare camera in place, keep it plugged in, and film the Gymnocalycium Mih.... or do you have an indoor camera that you can place on the plant (you can check on it via your phone? I know it's a long shot, but just a thought.
I have just seen those cactus for sale in the email from Grow Tropicals. I put it in my basket but wasnt sure to get it or not but qftwr seeing your one beginning to flower and the bright colours it has im more persuaded.
Drosanthemum globosum for the win. I want a gumdrop plant! Succulents are the best. Also I’d love it if you talked about glow-in-the-dark firefly petunias.
Hydnora africana is one of the weirdest plants I have ever heard of. I really don't think it would be possible to grow it indoors unless you were also growing its host plant. Definitely weird and wonderful! Love the begonias! I've contemplated adding a flying squid to my collection, but I don't know. Because it is a more sculptural plant I've seen ones I like and others I don't just because of the way it has grown.
This was a great video! I recently found your channel :) I fell in love with the Strongylodon macrobotrys - jade vine! I checked and there is one live plant on Etsy but its very spendy.
You can put an online camera in front of the cactus, There are cameras like that for dog/cat owners to check on their pets while they’re away!❤
Thinking the same thing!
i’ve actually obsessed with my dead stick plant because the way it drips down the side and trails all the way down the side of my plant shelf is kind of weird but kind of cool. It ends up also changing color from green to purple to brown so anyway, it’s just one of my favorites.
Would love a part 2 Claire ❤ can we also see more of you and Emma doing planty stuff, your great together x
I love weird plants.
Plants that non-planty people couldn’t imagine being a real living plant that evolved in the wild :D

Agree!!! 😁
The genuine thought of bringing a plant on a trip has me dying 😂😂😂😂 I almost brought one too
Put it in front of your Ring (or security) camera, then you can see it progress daily.
“What’s this in the bag miss.”
_”It’s my emotional support cacti”_
…
Same!!! The thought of bringing mine with me has def crossed my mind a time or two! 😂🤭💚
A thumb. Yep, that is definitely what I am seeing 😂
I’m seeing a begonia… probably one of the E. Rex species.
@@The_Crucible714 How innocent of you :)
My jaw literally dropped when you showed pictures of the jade vine, but then I realized it looked familiar because I actually have pictures of one from when I lived in Hawaii! It's such a stunning plant! 💙
I kept replaying the part where the dog winks at the camera! So cute!
The dead stick plant would give me so much anxiety
I have a dead stick tree. It’s formerly known as olive tree. No worries😂

You're so polite about that phallus cactus 😂
Thank you!!! I was wondering if she was going to bring up how phallic it is!
Does it shoot it’s seeds?
_Asking for a friend…_ 😏

Y’all I have the flower crown cactus! I bought it randomly a few months ago and it flowered for me!
Hi Claire! Here's is a good contender for part 2: Decarya Madagascariensis. Very weird looking plant.
21:17 omgggg that pot! Ross should sell them! I’d totally buys some! That one matches the begonia so perfectly. ❤

Weird houseplants in my opinion:
Huernia zebrina
Dioscorea elephantipes
Codariocalyx motorius
Microsorum thailandicum
Myrtillocactus geometrizans 'Fukurokuryuzinboku'
Part 2 Claire! 😊🌷

I owned the butterfly plant. It grew incredibly quickly, got very straggly to be honest, and the seed pods were abundant.
Hi Clare
I know you said in one of your videos about how hard it is to get distilled water in the U.K. , I agree I’m in the U.K. too.
You could try API stress coat for fish tanks .
It’s a water conditioner you can get it at Amazon , eBay and pets at home make sure it’s for goldfish not tropical fish
I can send a link if needed 😊
Ulearum donburnsii is probably one of the "weirder" plants in my collection. It's got such an interesting leaf shape and color
Hahaha I used to love everything with the blobby spikes on! Honestly would probably still wear them tbh 😂
The jade vine is even cooler irl it literally glows

Pelargonium cotelydonis, P. gibbosum, P. tetragonum, P. tomentosa and P. quinquelobatum , I still have gibbosum and tetragonum in my collection. I love my euphorbia platyclada! The new growth is green :) And coincidentally I just saw the jade vine at a botanical garden in Mexico and it was VERY noteworthy indeed.
There is a beautiful Jade Vine in the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden, the Netherlands ❤ A very interesting botanical garden to visit for any plant lover 😊
The variegated cactus that you showed first , I just ordered a few of them. Hope I can take care of it

I wish i had kept its seeds cause the store I originally bought it from doesnt sell them anymore :(
I have one of the Mammiliria with the flower crown it is a beautiful cactus and grows pretty quickly
I picked up a Mammularia cactus in Tesco for a few £ back last year. It’s in flower now. I have it on a south facing windowsill. My wife says it’s like a cage fighter in a tutu 😂
The jade vine was incredible
Are you able to put a spare camera in place, keep it plugged in, and film the Gymnocalycium Mih.... or do you have an indoor camera that you can place on the plant (you can check on it via your phone? I know it's a long shot, but just a thought.
I have just seen those cactus for sale in the email from Grow Tropicals. I put it in my basket but wasnt sure to get it or not but qftwr seeing your one beginning to flower and the bright colours it has im more persuaded.
Yoli is so adorable!!!!!!!🥰
Drosanthemum globosum for the win. I want a gumdrop plant! Succulents are the best. Also I’d love it if you talked about glow-in-the-dark firefly petunias.
Yay, finally a Begonia! Begonia lovers unit ❤
Have a great time claire x
I really love Euphorbia Platyclada. New "branches" are a bit green. :)
Senecio angel wings would be another weird and beautiful plant. The leaves feel like touching puppy ears.
That Jade plant has fruit too. Indonesia has one too but red. Irian Flame.
I find that the schismatoglottis wallichii does very well in a wick system pot.
In Kalimantan we have a lot of dark metallic plants for some reason. I had one before. I also had a plant with furry leaves.
I would definitely love to have that begonia! ❤😊
This was a great video! I recently found your channel :) I fell in love with the Strongylodon macrobotrys - jade vine! I checked and there is one live plant on Etsy but its very spendy.
